AB - Properties and characteristics of titanium(IV) oxide, as posible interactive and stable support for RuO2 and Pt electrocatalysts, are studied. RuO2 and Pt are important electrocatalytic materials, often used in industrial electrochemistry and alternative power sources. It was found that in Pt/TiO2 and RuO2/TiO2 composites synthesized in a way which enables highly ordered structures TiO2 acts like a stabilising and interactive core, while Pt and RuO2 are electrocatalyticaly active components encapsulating the core. As supporting component in both Pt/TiO2 and RuO2/TiO2 composites, TiO2 synthesis and its characterisation is performed separately.RuO2/TiO2 and Pt/TiO2 composites are synthesiezed using varouis hydrothermal approches consisting of temperature-controled conversion of aerosols and hydrosols to the solid phase. In the case of RuO2/TiO2 composite, influence of synthesis temperature on the morphology of the obtained composites was studied. Influence of the synthesis temperature on the stability of activated Ti anodes coated by obtained composites was examined as well.Dependance of the properties of the obtained composites on the applied synthesis approach was investigated. In-situ approach as one-step synthesis is applied along with the ex-situ approach, which implies that at least supporting component, TiO2, has been prepared prior to the composite synthesis. Strucutral and morphological properties of the obtained materials were tested using SEM, TEM, FTIR, XRD, DLS, Raman and TGA techniques. Electrochemical characterization involved the analysis of non-Faradaic response and electrocatalytic activity and stability in chlorine and oxygen evolution reactions (RuO2/TiO2), as well as oxygen reduction and hydrogen evolution reactions (Pt/TiO2).It was found that all synthesized composites had spherical shape, independently of the synthesis method. Structure arrangement and uniformity depend on the applied approach, as well as on the synthesis temperature. Although conversion of ruthenium precursor to coresponding oxide was not complete at lower synthesis temperature, this temperature is beneficial for electrochemical characteristics of the RuO2/TiO2 composite. Namely, RuO2/TiO2 composite synthesiezed at lower temperature had better stability and capacitive characteristics.Influence of the microscopic distribution of the oxide components throughout the spherical agglomerates on the electrochemical characteristics of the RuO2/TiO2 composites synthesized at two different temperatures, with same nominal composition, was investigated. In addition, the disscusion takes into account the influence of the anatase TiO2 that cores are primary consisted of.Influence of the synthesis temperature and method on the morphological properties and electrocatalytic activity of the obtained Pt/TiO2 composites were examined. All of the prepared composites were of spherical shape, independently of the applied conditions. Regular spherical cores covered by a shell of nanometric platinum particles were obtained by ex-situ approach, whereas in-situ aproach resulted in mixture of huge hollow speheres and smaller all-solid spheres. The most promising electocatalytical properties were obtained by ex-situ USP method at moderate temperatures.

AB - In this paper novel in situ one-step simultaneous anaphoretic deposition process of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) and titanium oxide (TiOx) with and without chitosan oligosaccharide lactate (ChOL) on titanium substrate was performed. The coatings were investigated by SEM, XRD and FTIR techniques, whereas roughness and adhesion were measured. It was shown that novel process occurs, with improved coatings adhesion and excellent coverage of the surface. At 90 V the surface is smoother, and there is possibility for crystallization of the components at prolonged deposition times.

AB - In chemical processes it is essential that the flow in the process is accurately defined. Fluid velocity measurements are important for fluid flow quality performance in flow systems. This study focuses on determination of the volumetric flow rate and its standard (relative) deviation for calibration of conventional flow meters by using a radiotracer approach. The measurements for flow meter calibration were performed at a pilot-scale flow rig using Technetium-99 m (99mTc) as a radiotracer in the form of pertechnetate ion (99mTcO4-). The measured data were analyzed, and precision of the experimental setup was investigated under two different approaches – IAEA’s RTD software and sum approximation of raw data. For the first time, the variation of standard deviation of calculated flow rate with the injection volume and activity of the radiotracer was determined. Plug flow with axial dispersion was used to simulate the measured RTD curves and investigate the flow dynamics of the flowing water. The results of the study have shown the possibility of in situ calibration of flow meters with a relative error lower than 1 %. They also revealed a slight dependency of the precision of output results on the injection volume as well as similar results for manual and specialized RTD software data processing.

AB - Pt/TiO2 composites were synthesized by single-step ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) at different temperatures. In an in-situ method, Pt and TiO2 particles were generated from tetra-n-butyl orthotitanate and chloroplatinic acid, and hydrothermally-prepared TiO2 colloidal dispersion served as Pt support in an ex-situ USP approach. USP-synthesized Pt/TiO2 composites were generated in the form of a solid mixture, morphologically organized in nesting huge hollow and small solid spheres, or TiO2 core/Pt shell regular spheroids by in-situ or ex-situ method, respectively. This paper exclusively reports on characteristic mechanisms of the formation of novel two-component solid composites, which are intrinsic from the USP approach and controlled precursor composition. The generation of the two morphological components within the in-situ approach, the hollow spheres and all-solid spheres, was indicated to be caused by characteristic sol-gel/solid phase transition of TiO2 . Both the walls of the hollow spheres and the cores of all-solid ones consist of TiO2 matrix populated by 10 nm-sized Pt. On the other hand, spherical, uniformly-sized, Pt particles of a few nanometers in size created a shell uniformly deposited onto TiO2 spheres of ca. 150 nm size. Activities of the prepared samples in an oxygen reduction reaction and combined oxygen reduction and hydrogen evolution reactions were electrochemically tested. The ex-situ synthesized Pt/TiO2 was more active for oxygen reduction and combined oxygen reduction and hydrogen reactions in comparison to the in-situ Pt/TiO2 samples, due to better availability of Pt within a core/shell structure for the reactions.

AB - The electrodeposition of aluminium on glassy carbon and aluminium substrates from AlCl3–urea deep eutectic solvent (DES) system at near room temperatures was investigated, without additional purification of the chemicals used to prepare the electrolyte and without rigorous control of moisture and oxygen present in the working space. The effects of changing temperature, working potential, controlled deposition current density and deposition time on the morphology of deposited aluminium without stirring of the electrolyte were recorded. Using potentiostatic and galvanostatic techniques, aluminium was electrodeposited from the deep eutectic solvent (n(AlCl3):n(urea)=1.6:1) onto glassy carbon and aluminium substrates at temperatures ranging from 25 to 50 °C. Using SEM, EDS and XRD techniques, substrates were studied and confirmed the presence of aluminium deposits following both potentiostatic and galvanostatic regimes. The shape and size of Al grains deposited depended on the time of deposition and varied in size from nanometers to micrometers and in shape from regular crystal forms to needle-like and flake-like structures.

AB - Development of low temperature processes for electrochemical deposition
of aluminium is highly desirable in order to overcome high energy cost, toxic emission of
fluoride and chloride from high temperature molten salt electrolytes. AlCh+urea ionic
mixture known as deep eutectic solvent (DES) is recognized as an economical electrolyte for
alunuruum electrodeposition at room temperatures [I, 2]. Electrodeposition experiments were
conducted on aluminum electrode using constant deposition current density (2 mA cm"2
) at
different bath temperatures: 25 °C, 35°C and 50°C. Using SEM and EDS techniques the
deposits were studied for their morphology dependence on the experimental conditions.
particularly working temperature. Electrochemical techniques used were linear sweep
voltarnmetry and chronopotentiometry. The size of individual Al grains deposited under the
same constant current density became larger (from nanometers to micrometers) with
increasing bath temperature. The shape of deposits ranged from regular crystal grains to complicated morphology including needle-like and flake-like structures.

AB - In this study we report of considerable promotion of supercapacitive performances of ruthenium oxide hosted by perovskite-like structure of rare earth–CoO3 composite and vice versa. Spherical, sub-µm-sized, regular spheres of La0.6Sr0.4CoO3 (LSCO) were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP). The sphere surface was subsequently hydrothermally doped by RuO2. LSCO and LSCO/RuO2 composites were investigated for their supercapacitive performances in alkaline solution. Microstructure and surface morphology were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). It was found that amorphous Ru species decorate the surface of LSCO spheres, and possibly incorporate partially into a B-site of the LSCO lattice. Electrochemical characterization by cyclic voltammetry (CV) clearly revealed that capacitive performances of LSCO are considerably improved by 20 mass% addition of RuO2. The registered capacitance for LSCO/RuO2 reaches the values of USP-synthesized pure RuO2, which reveals the promoting influence of LSCO on RuO2 pseudocapacitance. This intrinsic interactive promotion introduces the LSCO/RuO2 composite as a unique supercapacitive material.

AB - The results of experimental studies of the properties of composite materials based on Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) matrix filled with electrolytic copper powder, having very high dendritic structure, are presented in this manuscript. Copper powder volume fractions used as filler in all prepared composites were varied in the range of 0.4-7.2 vol. %. The samples were prepared by hot moulding injection at 140°C. Influence of morphology on the conductivity and percolation threshold of the composites was examined and characterization included: Electrical conductivity measurements using Impedance Spectroscopy (IS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Presence of three dimensional conductive pathways was confirmed. The obtained percolation threshold was 2.72 vol.%, which is about three times lower than the one stated in the literature for similar composites. This property is ascribed to different morphology of filler used in investigation.

AB - Perovskite have emerged as promising materials in newly invented energy storage and conversion devices due to their exceptional thermal stability, electronic structure, ionic conductivity, electron mobility, and redox behaviour [1]. Among perovskite that are suitable as catalyst for electrode in supercapacitors and solid oxide fuel cells, lanthanum strontium cobalt oxides have shown promising catalytic activity and relatively high stability [1]. Also, Co-based lanthanum manganite (LMCO) has been used as cathode material with a high electro-chemical catalytic activity for oxygen reduction[2].Ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) was used to successfully synthesize spherical sub-µm-sized of La0.6Sr0.4CoO3 (LSCO) and Mn and Sr-doped LaCoO3 powders. LSCO should be of wider voltage window than carbonaceous materials, with the possibility to adopt the pseudocapacitive oxide, such as RuO2, not only by simple surface adsorption, but over full or partial incorporation into the oxide structure. Hence, this work aims to investigate supercapacitive potentials of pure LSCO prepared by single step USP and LSCO doped with RuO2. The catalytic activity of Sr and Mn cation substitution in lanthanum cobalt oxide was also investigated. Electrochemical behaviour was investigated by EIS, CV and LSV techniques. The EIS and CV analyses showed that RuO2 catalyzes the redox transition of Co species, with simultaneous proportional increase in pseudocapacitive abilities of RuO2 itself while being hosted by LSCO. The investigated LMCO electrodes by CV and LSV techniques showed excellent catalytic activity for oxygen reduction. Our work indicated that these perovskite shows potential applications in the field of pseudocapacitance electrode materials and is worthy of further investigation.

AB - Modern industries have shown ever-growing hunger for alloys with very specific characteristics. Formation of intermetallic compounds during electrodeposition seems to be an attractive way to develop alloys with such new properties. By co-depositing two or more metals, electrodeposition can offer a possibility of composing alloys that are otherwise not attainable. It is known that electrodeposited alloys may differ considerably in their phase constitution from alloys with equivalent chemical composition that are obtained by thermal metallurgical methods. Almost fifty years ago, the phenomenon of underpotential deposition (UPD) was recognized and defined as a deposition of a metal on another metal at the potential more positive than its reversible potential. Since then, underpotential deposition involving different pairs of metals was studied in various electrolytes. Alloy formation due to interdiffusion between the underpotential layer and the substrate became apparent in some UPD studies performed in melts. Our research is aimed at investigating UPD alloy formation of aluminium and magnesium in low temperature chloroaluminate and nitrate melts. Alloy substrate materials under study are gold, platinum, silver, copper, iron, zinc, cadmium, palladium, zirconium and vanadium. Results show alloys of constitution that could have rare characteristics of interest for aerospace, semiconductor, electronic, biomedical, nuclear and other fast developing industries.

AB - In-situ synthesis of HAp/TiO2 coating on titanium was performed via anaphoretic deposition of HAp and simultaneous anodization of Ti to produce highly adherent and strengthened composite coating. The prepared coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and electron dispersive spectroscopy. HAp on anodized titanium was prepared at constant voltage of 60 V and deposition time of 45 s, which provided uniform and adherent HAp/TiO2 composite coating on Ti. Since smaller size of HAp crystals within highly porous coating structures is of improved binding ability to various biomolecules, our coating is expected to be of excellent coverage and compactness. The obtained coating can be good candidate for bone implants due to reduced brittleness and improved adhesion.

AB - The optimization of the anodization process of Ti substrate for in situ synthesis of hydroxyapatite/titanium oxide composite coatings on titanium substrate was accomplished. The anodization was performed under 30, 60 and 90 V cell voltage, and the morphology of treated surface, as well as linear and surface roughness, were analysed by field emission-scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and roughness tester. It was shown by linear and surface roughness analyses that titanium anodized under 60 V has the highest roughness, whereas at 90 V the flattening of the surface occurs. As the highest surface roughness results emerged at 60 V, the novel process of composite anHAp/TiO2 coating synthesis, which comprises simultaneous processes of TiO2 formation and HAp deposition, as well as HAp impregnation within TiO2 surface layer, was performed at this voltage. Ti substrate surface was completely covered by composite coating, with no visible cracks. The adhesion quantified according to ASTM D3359-02 standard is considerably improved with respect to the coatings obtained by cathaphoretic processes, with no need of subsequent sintering.

AB - In-situ synthesis of hydroxyapatite/titanium oxide (HAp/TiO2) coating on titanium was performed via anaphoretic deposition of hydroxyapatite (HAp) and simultaneous anodization of Ti to produce highly adherent and strengthened composite coating. The influence of electric potential, time, electrolyte concentration and pH value of the anodization process on titanium surface roughness and anodization of titanium was examined, as well as influence of same process parameters on adhesion strength and compactness of composite HAp/TiO2 coatings was investigated. Prior to novel in situ method of synthesis of hydroxyapatite/titanium oxide composite coatings by simultaneous anodization/anaphoretic electrodeposition described in this manuscript, optimization of anodization process of titanium was performed. Anodization was executed under different electric potentials and different distances of counter electrodes from working electrodes, but all anodization processes had constant quantity of electric charge. Characterization of titanium samples, prepared from grade 6 Ti, and having rectangular contact surfaces of 10×10×0.89 mm included SEM/EDS analyses, X-ray diffraction analyses, AFM surface topography, morphology and roughness analyses and linear measurements of roughness.A chemical precipitation method was used to prepare hydroxyapatite powder by the reaction of calcium oxide (obtained by calcination of CaCO3 for 5 h at 1000 °C in air) and phosphoric acid. A stoichiometric amount of the calcium oxide was stirred in distilled water and phosphoric acid was added drop wise to the suspension in order to obtain hydroxyapatite powder, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2.Two types of HAp coatings were prepared, in order to compare the adhesion, morphology and consistency of the HAp and composite HAp/TiO2 on Ti, namely cathaphoretic and anaphoretic coatings, respectively [1,2]. The prepared coatings were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and electron dispersive spectroscopy. Adhesion was investigated by ASTM D 3359 – 97 Test method B. Uniform and adherent HAp/TiO2 composite coating on Ti was obtained. Since smaller size of HAp crystals within highly porous coating structures is of improved binding ability to various biomolecules, our coating is expected to be of excellent coverage and compactness. The obtained coating can be good candidate for bone implants due to improved adhesion.

AB - Titanium substrates were electrochemically treated by novel in-situ synthesis method to produce anaphoretic hydroxyapatite/titanium oxide (HAp/TiO2) coating. This synthesis method was performed via anaphoretic deposition of hydroxyapatite and simultaneous anodization of Ti in order to produce highly adherent and strengthened composite coating, where the influence of electric potential, time, electrolyte concentration and pH value of the anodization process on titanium surface roughness and adhesion strength of composite HAp/TiO2 coatings was examined. In situ synthesis was performed in different solutions containing different concentrations of NaOH, HAp and ethanol at different values of time and constant voltage. The effects of anodizing voltage on the morphology and bioactivity of the HAp coating and on the bonding strength between the HAp coating and the anodized substrates were investigated. A modified chemical precipitation method was used to prepare hydroxyapatite powder by the reaction of stoichiometric amount of calcium oxide and phosphoric acid. Prior to novel in situ synthesis of HAp/TiO2 composite coatings, optimization of anodization process of titanium was performed. Anodization was executed under different electric potentials and different distances of counter electrodes from working electrodes, but all experiments had constant quantity of electric charge. Results indicated that highly ordered amorphous TiO2 surface is formed on the Ti substrate after anodic oxidation. Characterization of titanium samples having rectangular contact surfaces of 10×10×0.89 mm included SEM/EDS analyses, X-ray diffraction analyses, AFM surface topography, morphology and roughness analyses and linear measurements of roughness. The prepared coatings were characterized by FE-SEM, XRD and EDS. Adhesion was investigated by ASTM D 3359–97 Test method B. Uniform and adherent HAp/TiO2 composite coating on Ti was obtained. The results of simulated body fluid immersing experiments suggest that obtained HAp coating exhibits promising bioactivity. The obtained coating can be good candidate for bone implants due to improved adhesion.

AB - The medical devices based on titanium and its alloys are widely used in the repair and replacement of a degraded or inhibited func-tion of locomotor system [1]. Ti and its alloys exhibit high mechanical strength, good workability, resistant to corrosion and low cost. Although, they are widely used as orthopedic and dental implants their inability to interact with living tissue will inhibit their biological fixation and osseoin-tegration [2]. Therefore, to improve the hard-tissue compatibility of Ti various sur-face treatments have been developed for the inorganic coating formation [3]. The hyd-roxyapatite (HAp, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) with superior osteogenic activity is a competitive approach to make novel coatings for titanium implants applications. HAp is a calcium phosphate very similar to the inorganic part of the human bone and hard tissues both in morphology and compo-sition. Herein, in-situ synthesis of HAp/TiO2 coating on titanium was performed via ana-phoretic deposition of HAp and simulta-neous anodization of Ti to produce highly adherent and strengthened composite coating. It can be seen that morphology of Ti substrate of anHAP/TiO2 coating is of tubular shape, and tube formation occurs mainly due to competing processes of anodization and electrophoretic deposition of HAp. anHAp/TiO2 coating does not need sintering process, and simultaneous Ti anodization and HAp deposition occur, where HAp crystals incorporate in the anodized Ti surface. From the presented results it can be concluded that novel suggested process of in situ simultaneous anHAp/TiO2 deposition with Ti surface anodization gives much better results that cathaphoretic deposition regarding adhesion.

AB - In this research, two non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, thermal vision analysis and image analysis, were implemented for monitoring the surface changes- erosion of mullite-based ceramic samples in conditions of cavitation exposure. Thermal imaging analysis was focused on determining the temperature line profile at the end of the cavitation experiment. Image analysis is a powerful tool for the quantification of degradation level caused by different impacts and conditions. Based on the results of the image analysis, the degradation level during the testing was determined, as well as number of formed pits with their characteristics (average diameter and area). The results performed by both methods were discussed in order to obtain the optimal procedure that should be followed for estimating degradation caused by cavitation erosion.

abstract = "In this research, two non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, thermal vision analysis and image analysis, were implemented for monitoring the surface changes- erosion of mullite-based ceramic samples in conditions of cavitation exposure. The results performed by both methods were discussed in order to obtain the optimal procedure that should be followed for estimating degradation caused by cavitation erosion.",

AB - The Ag, Pd and AgPd alloys of different morphologies and compositions were electrodeposited onto Au
and glassy carbon (GC) disc electrodes from the solution containing 0.001 M PdCl2 þ 0.04 M AgCl þ 0.1 M
HCl þ 12 M LiCl under the conditions of non-stationary (RPM ¼ 0, samples AgPd1 and AgPd2) and
convective diffusion (RPM ¼ 1000, sample AgPd3). Electrodeposited alloy layers were characterized by
the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray
photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was investigated on all coatings in
0.1 M NaOH solution saturated with oxygen. The j-E curves for the ORR were recorded by two proced-
ures: (1) samples were cycled with 5 mV s
 1
from open circuit potential (OCP) to 0.8 V for Ag and AgPd
alloys (or 0.6 V for pure Pd) and back; (2) samples were cycled with 5 mV s
 1
from open circuit po-
tential to 0.45 V (formation of Ag2O, in the case of Pd formation of PdO and PdO2), from 0.45 V to 0.60 V
and back to the OCP. Significant catalytic activity for the Ag and AgPd alloys was detected after cycling
electrodes in the potential region of Ag2O formation and reduction. Increase of the catalytic activity for
AgPd alloys was, for the first time in the literature, ascribed to the presence of a certain amount of Ag2O
which could not be completely reduced during the reverse sweep from 0.45 V to 0.6 V. Catalytic activity
of AgPd alloys was found to be closely related to the amount of non-reduced Ag2O (most probably in the
form of Ag-hydroxide). In the absence of such treatment, the catalytic activity for the ORR on electro-
deposited Ag and AgPd alloy coatings was not detected.

AB - NI-Sn alloy coating was deposited galvanostatically at j= -100 mA cm-2 from the bath containing 0.1M Sn2+ and 0.1 M Ni2+ ions in the pyrophosphate-glycine solution. The coating sample was investigated for ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) in alkaline solution using cyclic voltammetry. Chronoamperometric measurements were used to determine the electrocatalyst stability. The presence of Sn can contribute to the oxidation of the EOR products that poisons the Ni surface sites. Also the presence of Sn atoms within the Ni structure, modifies the electronic density of states of Ni, thus preventing strong binding of poisoning species. This work represents a recommendation in developing cost-effective electrocatalyst with high activity and stability for EOR in DEFCs.

AB - Esomeprazole is the most effective of the proton-pump inhibitors for the acid-related diseases and at first was examined for the electroanalytical purposes. The drug standard and as a content of injection powder was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and quantitatively determined using square wave voltammetry (SWV) via its electrooxidation at Au electrode in 0.05 M NaHCO3. SWV showed a linear dependency of the anodic peak currents vs. esomeprazole standard concentrations in the range from 3.0 to 500 μg mL−1 with the values of limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ): 1.4 and 4.6 μg mL−1, respectively. Using the constructed and validated calibration curve, the values of unknown esomeprazole concentrations in injection powder and in human serum spiked with standard were determined. Before the electrochemical oxidation, it was shown by atomic force microscopy (AFM) that the small esomeprazole islands formed inside holes were visible and their diameter was about 200 nm attributed to physico-chemical characteristics of esomeprazole. After the electrochemical oxidation, the morphology of esomeprazole standard on Au surface was completely changed and composed of spherical particles in a diameter between 200 and 600 nm. With esomeprazole suspended in human serum, the process of crystallization partly occurred in the form of spherical grains with the average size of these grains was about 4 μm. The analysis at the macro level done by the optical microscopy (OM) confirmed this opinion. The study of esomeprazole degradation showed that at Au electrode, after 3 h of cycling, a neglectable amount of the esomeprazole was changed. Using IrOx electrode under directed stress conditions, its almost complete degradation was realized after 3 h confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis showed that 95% of esomeprazole was mineralized. The HPLC and Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) study revealed the formation of 4-hydroxy omeprazole sulphide, 4-hydroxy omeprazole sulphone, esomeprazole sulphone and methylated esomeprazole.

AB - The processes of electrodeposition from magnesium nitrate hexahydrate melt by galvanostatic regime of electrolysis
have been analyzed. The structure of the formed particles was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD),
which revealed formation of MgO/Mg(OH)2 mixture by molten salt electrolysis. Morphologies of the produced
deposits were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. The flower-like forms constructed
from very thin needles with sharp tips were predominately formed by electrodeposition at various
current densities and with various amounts of electricity. Aside from that, holes formed from detached hydrogen
bubbles of various shapes and sizes, from dish-like holes to those resulting in honeycomb-like structures were
also observed. Mechanism of formation of the flower-like forms has been elucidated applying the general theory
of disperse deposits formation which is based on the concept of local (spherical and cylindrical) diffusion fields.
It is shown that the growth of the needles occurs under the conditions of predominant spherical diffusion control,
while the contribution of the cylindrical diffusion to the final shapes was negligible. Comparison with
morphologies of deposits obtained by electrodepositions from aqueous magnesium salt electrolytes was also
made and discussed.

AB - In this study niobium oxide films were formed without peroxo-precursors from three different mixed acidic aqueous solutions on glassy carbon. Linear sweep voltammetry and potential step were techniques used for electrochemical experiments. The simultaneous and consecutive electrochemical reduction of water, nitrate and sulphate ions provided an alkaline environment with oxygen in the near vicinity of the working cathode, which in combination with the present niobium ions, produced niobium oxides and/or oxyhydroxides on the glassy carbon substrate. The formed deposits were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy and appear to consist of NbO, NbO2 and Nb2O5. Both the niobium and acid concentration of the electrolytes used influenced the morphology and particle size of the deposits. The formation of niobium-fluoride and hydrogen-niobiumoxide complexes is addressed.

AB - Uniformly-shaped, spherical RuO2/TiO2 particles were synthesized exclusively by one-step ultrasonic spray pyrolysis USP) of a mixture of n-butylorthotitanate and ruthenium chloride acidic aqueous solutions. The USP temperature was 200 degrees C -quite below the typical conversion temperatures of the precursors to the oxides. Basic electrochemical properties of RuO2/TiO2 USP powders as-prepared or additionally dried and/or thermally treated) in the form of a thin layer applied onto glassy carbon electrode are investigated and compared to the properties of powder synthesized at quite higher temperature of 800 degrees C. The coatings of activated titanium anode ATA) were prepared from RuO2/TiO2 USP powders in order to check the anode electrolysis stability and to correlate the anode properties to those of native USP powders. Low-temperature material showed much better performances than high-temperature one. ATA obtained from low-temperature USP powder showed considerably higher stability. The obtained results are found to be in close correlation to the powder and coating structure, composition and morphology affected by subsequent thermal treatment of the material synthesized at low USP temperature.
