AB - The main challenge in controlling the microbiological contamination of historical paper is
finding an adequate method that includes the use of cost-effective, harmless, and non-toxic biocides
whose effectiveness is maintained over time and without adverse effects on cultural heritage and
human health. Therefore, this study demonstrated the possibility of using a non-invasive method
of historical paper conservation based on plant essential oils (EOs) application. Evaluation of antimicrobial
effects of different EOs (lemongrass, oregano, rosemary, peppermint, and eucalyptus)
was conducted against Cladosporium cladosporoides, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Penicillium chrysogenum,
which are commonly found on archive papers. Using a mixture of oregano, lemongrass and peppermint
in ratio 1:1:1, the lower minimal inhibition concentration (0.78%) and better efficiency during
a vapour test at the highest tested distance (5.5 cm) compared with individual EOs was proven.
At the final step, this EOs mixture was used in the in situ conservation of historical paper samples
obtained from the Archives of Vojvodina. According to the SEM imaging, the applied EOs mixture
demonstrates complete efficiency in the inhibition of fungi colonization of archive papers, since
fungal growth was not observed on samples, unlike the control samples.

AB - In this study we have reported the chemical composition of the essential oils obtained from the needles of twelve Pinus taxa, belonging to the subgenera Pinus (sections Pinus and Trifoliae) and Strobus (sect. Quinquefoliae). Monoterpenes dominated over sesquiterpenes in most of the investigated taxa of both subgenera, except in representatives of the subsection Pinaster, subgenus Pinus. α-Pinene was the most abundant terpene in eight pines, but other dominant terpenes were found in some taxa - trans-caryophyllene, germacrene D, abietadiene and β-pinene. In the subsect. Pinaster, the most dominant compounds varied from species to species. In addition, P. halepensis and P. pinaster had the highest percentage of diterpenes, while P. heldreichii was the richest in germacrene D. In the PCA and cluster analyses, three species from the subsect. Pinaster emerged as the most distant: P. halepensis, P. pinaster, and P. heldreichii. In addition, the possible taxonomic implications of the terpene profile in the analysed Pinus taxa were also discussed.
AB - U ovom proučavanju objavili smo hemijski sastav etarskih ulja dobijenih iz iglica 12 taksona roda Pinus, koji pripadaju podrodovima Pinus

AB - Unlike other studies that only determined the chemical composition of essential oils depending on their geographic origin, this research investigated the effect of weather conditions (temperature, precipitation, and insolation) on the chemical composition of Nepeta nuda L. essential oil. The collection of wild-growing N. nuda was carried out during three successive years, 2019, 2020, and 2021 at Rtanj Mountain (Serbia) on the same date (July 7th). Essential oil extraction from the plant was performed by hydro-distillation. After gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis, a total of 102 volatile compounds were separated from N. nuda, during the observed period, 28 were unidentified, compromising between 5.0% and 8.7%, depending on the year. A multiple linear regression model was created, and statistical analyses were performed to provide knowledge about the prediction, feature profile, and the similarity in contents of active compounds of the N. nuda essential oil. The influence of temperature on the accumulation of the most abundant component, 1,8-cineole, was positive, while the impact of precipitation and insolation was negative. According to the cluster tree, there are four chemotypes of N. nuda essential oil: with nepetalactone, 1,8-cineole, mixed (nepetalactone+1,8-cineole+germacrene D), and nonspecific chemotypes. Bearing in mind that the biological activity of a raw material depends on the chemotype and environmental factors, this is a topic that deserves a more detailed approach. The N. nuda and its essential oil are promising materials with high biological potential, and these deserve further detailed investigation.

AB - Salvia sclarea L. or clary sage is cultivated worldwide in temperate and sub-tropical climates, as an ornamental and essential oil (EO) bearing plant. EO is obtained from fresh spikes in full flowering stage and is recognized as an important commercial product for food, beverage and cosmetic industries. This study investigated the EO composition of S. sclarea grown in Serbia (Southeast Europe) obtained by two different methods, steam (SD) and hydrodistillation (HD). GC-MS analysis identified oxygenated monoterpenes as the main class of compounds for all EOs (between 81.8% and 88.2% depending on the distillation process). The most abundant oxygenated monoterpenes were linalyl acetate and linalool. In addition, in vitro antimicrobial (modified resazurin microtitre-plate assay) and antioxidant activities (DPPH• assay) and total polyphenol content of obtained EOs were also evaluated. According to the assay used for the evaluation of the antibacterial activity, Gram-negative bacteria were more sensitive to S. sclarea EO in comparison to Gram-positive bacteria. EOs exhibited low antioxidant capacity, below 3% neutralized DPPH• radicals, reaching up to approximately 400 µg AAE mL-1. This study also investigated a possibility for predicting retention indices (RIs) of compounds isolated from EOs. In total, 78 experimentally obtained RIs were applied to construct the prediction model. The quantitative structure-chromatographic retention relationship (QSRR) model was used to anticipate the experimentally obtained RIs. Five molecular descriptors were selected by factor analysis and genetic algorithm to predict RIs. The obtained accuracy of the QSRR model reached r2 =.912, which showed that these models might be applied for predicting retention indices.

abstract = "Salvia sclarea L. or clary sage is cultivated worldwide in temperate and sub-tropical climates, as an ornamental and essential oil (EO) bearing plant. The obtained accuracy of the QSRR model reached r2 =.912, which showed that these models might be applied for predicting retention indices.",

AB - Lavandula sp. essential oil and hydrolate are commercially valuable in various industry
branches with the potential for wide-ranging applications. This study aimed to evaluate the quality
of these products obtained from L. x intermedia cv. ‘Budrovka’ for the first time cultivated on Fruška
Gora Mt. (Serbia) during three successive seasons (2019, 2020, and 2021). Essential oil extraction
was obtained by steam distillation, and the composition and influence of weather conditions were
also assessed, using flowering tops. The obtained essential oils and hydrolates were analysed by
gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled to
mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A linear regression model was developed to predict L. x intermedia cv.
‘Budrovka’ essential oil volatile compound content and hydrolate composition during three years,
according to temperature and precipitation data, and the appropriate regression coefficients were
calculated, while the correlation analysis was employed to analyse the correlations in hydrolate
and essential oil compounds. To completely describe the structure of the research data that would
present a better insight into the similarities and differences among the diverse L. x intermedia cv.
‘Budrovka’ samples, the PCA was used. The most dominant in L. intermedia cv. ‘Budrovka’ essential
oil and hydrolate were oxygenated monoterpenes: linalool, 1,8-cineole, borneol, linalyl acetate, and
terpinene-4-ol. It is established that the temperature was positively correlated with all essential oil
and hydrolate compounds. The precipitations were positively correlated with the main compounds
(linalool, 1,8-cineole, and borneol), while the other compounds’ content negatively correlated to
precipitation. The results indicated that Fruška Gora Mt. has suitable agro-ecological requirements
for cultivating Lavandula sp. and providing satisfactory essential oil and hydrolate.

AB - Garden rose, Rosa hybrida, is primarily used for decoration and has a wide range of growing
area, contrary to R. damascena that has a limited area of distribution (Turkey and Bulgaria), yet it is
extensively used for commercial production of valuable and expensive rose oil. Since the content of
essential oil in rose petals is low (0.03–0.04%), its production is quite limited; however, during this
process, a significant amount of rose hydrosol is obtained as a secondary product. The aim of this
research was to determine the chemical composition of garden rose hydrosols and to evaluate their
biological properties. Obtained results show that R. hybrida hydrosol containing phenylethyl alcohol,
nerol, linalool, and geraniol may be used as an alternative for R. damascena hydrosol. However, the
total phenolic content was quite low (4.96 _g GAE/mL), which is related to a low level of observed
antioxidant activity based on different antioxidant activity assays. Furthermore, R. hybrida hydrosol
did not exhibit antimicrobial activity against several gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as
well as yeast and fungi. Anti-inflammatory activity was also low, while no antihyperglycemic activity
was detected. With these results in mind, no potential is evident for the therapeutic application of
rose hydrosol beyond that found in complimentary medicine such as aromatherapy.

AB - A large number of plant metabolites has provided an incomparable chemical source of the pharmaceutical
products. The two major fields of chemical research on biological active small molecules, metabolomics and
natural product discovery, have the similar goals of identifying and characterizing small molecules, either in
their isolated active state (natural product chemistry). Metabolomics generate a profile of small molecules
from plant extracts, which could be directly responsible for bioactivity effects. Using dry-column flash
chromatography enable a rapid and inexpensive method for the very efficient separation of plant extract with
a high resolution. This separation method coupled to NMR and FTIR-based metabolomics is applied to identify
bioactive natural products. OPLS multivariate analysis method, was used for correlation the chemical
composition of the plant extracts, Amphoricarpos autariatus, with the results of cytotoxic activity against
Human cervical adenocarcinoma cell line (HeLa) and epithelial lung cancer cell line (A549). In this way, the
highest contribution to the cytotoxic activity was recorded for the guaianolide sesquiterpene lactone were
tested, and their cytotoxic activity were conformed.

AB - This paper is a study of the chemical composition of Hyssopus officinalis ssp. Officinalis grown during three years (2017-2019) at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops Novi Sad (Vojvodina Province, Serbia). Furthermore, comparisons with ISO standards during the years were also investigated, as well as a prediction model of retention indices of compounds from the essential oils. An essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS was isopinocamphone chemotype. The gathered information about the volatile compounds from H. officinalis was used to classify the samples using the unrooted cluster tree. The correlation analysis was applied to investigate the similarity of different samples, according to GC-MS data. The quantitative structure- retention relationship (QSRR) was also employed to predict the retention indices of the identified compounds. A total of 74 experimentally obtained retention indices were used to build a prediction model. The coefficient of determination for the training cycle was 0.910, indicating that this model could be used for the prediction of retention indices for H. officinalis essential oil compounds.

AB - Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L., Asteraceae) is one of the most popular medicinal plants used as a herb
infusion for treating numerous ailments, including sleep disorders, anxiety, digestion and intestinal conditions
etc. Chamomile essential oil is used in a wide variety of consumer goods such as detergents, soaps, toiletries,
cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, confectionery food products, soft drinks, distilled alcoholic beverages
(hard liquor) and as insecticide. According to the European Pharmacopoeia, there are two types of essential
oils, one rich in bisabolol oxides and the other in α-bisabolol, which are preferred for tea brewing because of
its sweet, grassy, and slightly fruity aroma. From the other side, varieties rich in chamazulene and β-farnesene
have bitter taste, and because of that they are low valuable raw material. According to the results of the
essential oil composition obtained from three different chamomile samples grown in Province of Vojvodina, it
could be concluded that domestic cultivars “Banatska” and “Tetraploidna” contains β-farnesene as dominant
compound, while the content of bisabolol oxides and α-bisabolol was lower than required standards in
European Pharmacopoeia. Because of that they could not be classified as quality raw material. The German
cultivar “Mabamille” grown in agroecological conditions of Vojvodina region, with 37.5% of α-bisabolol can be
classified as a bisabolol rich type, and as high quality row material.

abstract = "Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L., Asteraceae) is one of the most popular medicinal plants used as a herb
infusion for treating numerous ailments, including sleep disorders, anxiety, digestion and intestinal conditions
The German
cultivar “Mabamille” grown in agroecological conditions of Vojvodina region, with 37.5% of α-bisabolol can be
classified as a bisabolol rich type, and as high quality row material., Kamilica (Matricaria chamomilla L., Asteraceae) je jedna od najpopularnijih lekovitih biljaka koja se

AB - In the essential oil of yarrow (Achillea millefolium L. sensu lato) collected from natural popula-
tion on Mt. Rtanj (Serbia) and distilled by Clevenger apparatus 104 compounds were detected, and

the most abundant were camphor (9.8%), caryophyllene oxide (6.5%), terpinen-4-ol (6.3%) and 1,8-

cineole (5.6%). The quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) model was employed to pre-
dict the retention indices, using four molecular descriptors selected by factor analysis and a genetic

algorithm. The coefficients of determination reached the value of 0.862, demonstrating that this mo-
del could be used for prediction purposes.

AB - The aim of this study was the prediction model of retention indices of compounds from the aboveground parts of Achillea clypeolata Sibth. & Sm. essential oil, obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC-MS. The quantitative structure-retention relationship analysis was applied in order to anticipate the retention time of the obtained compounds. The selection of the seven molecular descriptors was done by a genetic algorithm. The chosen descriptors were uncorrelated and were used to construct an artificial neural network. A total of 40 experimentally obtained retention indices was used to build this prediction model. The coefficient of determination for the training, testing and validation cycles were: 0.950, 0.825 and 1.000, respectively, indicating that this model could be used for prediction of retention indices for A.

AB - Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis L., Lamiaceae) is a perennial shrub or subshrub violet-blue flowers in verticillasters and spicy taste with a pungent flavour. Besides being used as a culinary herb for flavouring and food preservation, this plant is also an ornamental, bee attracting plant and a traditional remedy for respiratory diseases and digestive disturbances. Hyssop is an essential oil-bearing plant, and its essential oil (Hyssopi aetheroleum) is used in the pharmaceutical, perfume and cosmetics industries as well as in aromatherapy. The objective of this study was to determine the chemical composition of essential oil of hyssop CV. "Domaći ljubičasti", grown in Serbia, and investigate its antimicrobial activity against 16 bacteria, mainly pathogens in the food industry. A total of 61 compounds were detected in the hyssop essential oil. The bicyclic monoterpene ketones CIS-pinocamphone (43.8%) and trans-pinocamphone (18.3%) were the most abundant, comprising 62.1%, followed by b-pinene (6.3%) and pinocarvone (6.1%). Hyssop essential oil expressed antibacterial activity against: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, Proteus hauseri, Listeria monocytogenes, Rhodococcus equi, Listeria ivanovii, Salmonella Enteritidis, Enterococcus faecalis, Listeria innocua and Bacillus spizizenii. Hyssop essential oil did not express antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella Typhimurium, Klebsiella aerogenes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Results of this study show that hyssop essential oil has potential for using as natural supplement for control of foodborne diseases of microbiological origin, as well as flavor compositions (herbaceous, camphor-like odour with warm and spicy undernotes), especially for meat products, sauces, soups and seasonings.

AB - Phytochemistry deals with the study of secondary metabolites produced by plants that synthesize these compounds for many reasons, including their own protection against attack of herbivores and plant diseases. Secondary metabolites are believed to represent plant adaptation to various environmental factors and that they enabled the survival of the species. Secondary metabolites of plants can have curative or toxic effects in humans and animals. Herbal medicine has a long tradition in folk medicine and until the early 20th century, when synthetic organic chemistry began to develop, plants were the main source of medicines. The two basic goals of our phytochemical research are: isolation and identification of new (biologically active) compounds – potential drugs, and chemotaxonomy (chemosystematics). In the following text through one selected example, the genus Amphoricarpos Vis., our phytochemical research is shown on both aspects.

AB - Metabolomics has emerged in recent years as an indispensable tool for the analysis of thousands
of metabolites from crude natural extracts, leading to a paradigm shift in natural products drug
research. Many of the technologies used in metabolomics have method-specific advantages and
drawbacks in terms of diversity of metabolites detected, sensitivity, or resolution.
We will describe the use of metabolomic methods for:
• Correlation of propolis composition to altitude of collection and revealing its major botanical
origin.
• revealing cytotoxic metabolites from Mahonia aquifolium stem-bark
• application for differentiation of the ambiguous taxonomy of the genus Amphoricarpos Vis.
In order to correlate variability in Populus type propolis composition with the altitude of its
collection, NMR spectroscopy followed by OPLS was conducted. The botanical origin of propolis
was established by comparing propolis spectral data to those of buds of various Populus species.
An O2PLS method was utilized to integrate two blocks of data. The utilization of various NMR
experiments, in combination with sophisticated multivariate analysis methods, was demonstrated
to be a powerful tool to correlate propolis composition to altitude of collection and reveal its major
botanical origin. OPLS methods were used to identify changes in the chemical composition of
propolis, while O2PLS methods enabled the identification of the botanical origin of propolis.[1]
A 1H NMR-based metabolomics method was used to reveal cytotoxic metabolites from Mahonia
aquifolium stem-bark. Primary and secondary metabolites in the Mahonia aquifolium extracts
were identified by thorough analysis of 1H and 2D NMR spectra, without prior isolation. An OPLS
multivariate analysis method was used to correlate the chemical composition of the plant extracts
with the results of cytotoxic activity against Human cervical adenocarcinoma cell line.[2]
Metabolomic methods were used to get more insight into the ambiguous taxonomy of the genus
Amphoricarpos Vis. The 1H NMR spectroscopy combined with multivariate data analysis has been
applied. OPLS-DA has been shown to be the best method for clear discrimination of these samples
based on the metabolites present in the extracts. 1H NMR fingerprinting in combination with PCA
and OPLS-DA showed a clear separation between the species resulting in two groups according to
metabolomic similarities.

AB - The objective of this study was to evaluate wild growing Satureja kitaibelii, Thymus serpyllum,
Origanum vulgare, Achillea millefolium and Achillea clypeolata with respect to their essential oil (EO)
content, composition and antimicrobial activity. The five species were collected at Mt. Rtanj and the
village of Sesalac, Eastern Serbia. The main EO constituents of Lamiaceae plants were p-cymene
(24.4%), geraniol (63.4%) and germacrene D (21.5%) in Satureja kitaibelii, Thymus serpyllum and
Origanum vulgare ssp. vulgare, respectively. A. millefolium EO had multiple constituents with major
ones being camphor (9.8%), caryophyllene oxide (6.5%), terpinen-4-ol (6.3%) and 1,8-cineole (5.6%),
while the main EO constituents of A. clypeolata were 1,8-cineole (45.1%) and camphor (18.2%).
Antimicrobial testing of the EO showed that Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) was more sensitive
to all of the tested EOs than Escherichia coli (Gram-negative). S. kitaibelii EO showed the highest
antimicrobial activity against both tested bacterial strains. This is the first study to characterize
the EO composition and antimicrobial activity of these five medicinal species from Eastern Serbia
in comparison with comprehensive literature data. The results can be utilized by the perfumery,
cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical industries, but also for healing purposes in self-medication.

AB - Metabolomics generate a profile of small molecules from plant extracts, which could be directly responsible for bioactivity effects. Using dry-column flash chromatography enabled a rapid and inexpensive method for the very efficient separation of plant extract with a high resolution. This separation method coupled to NMR and FTIR based metabolomics is applied to identify bioactive natural products. OPLS multivariate analysis method, was used for correlation the chemical composition of the plant extracts, Amphoricarpos autariatus, with the results of cytotoxic activity against Human cervical adenocarcinoma cell line (HeLa) and epithelial lung cancer cell line
(A549). In this way, the highest contribution to the cytotoxic activity was recorded for the guaianolide sesquiterpene lactones named amphoricarpolides. The compounds indicated as bioactive after metabolomics analysis were tested, and their cytotoxic activity were confirmed.

abstract = "Metabolomics generate a profile of small molecules from plant extracts, which could be directly responsible for bioactivity effects.
The compounds indicated as bioactive after metabolomics analysis were tested, and their cytotoxic activity were confirmed.",

AB - A total of 26 experimentally obtained retention indices on a logarithmic scale (log RI) from
Thymus serpyllum essential oil were used to build a robust predictive model. The selected descriptors were
used as inputs of an artificial neural network model to build a predictive quantitative structure-retention time
relationship model. The coefficient of determination for the training cycle was 0.977, indicating that this model
could be used for the prediction of retention indices for T. serpyllum essential oil compounds. These 26
compounds comprise about 99.8 % of the total oil, but among them only 6 compounds had the average relative
concentration over 1 percent: geraniol (63.4 %), nerol (or cis-geraniol) (18.9 %), geranyl acetate (4.7 %), transcaryophyllene (4.6 %), β-bisabolene (2.0 %) and geranial (1.2 %). According to these results, it can be concluded
that T. serpyllum from village Sesalac (Serbia) belongs to geraniol chemotype, in total 82.3 % in both, trans and
cis forms (63.4 % and 18.9 %, respectively).

AB - Most of the Origanum species are locally distributed within the Mediterranean region
where they grow in the mountainous areas on the islands. Due to this, the rate of endemism is high,
as in case of dittany of Crete (O. dictamnus). O. vulgare possesses the largest distribution area and can
be found throughout the Mediterranean region, however, the yield and quality of the essential oil is
controlled genetically and strongly affected by the environmental influences. Origanum essential oils
predominantly containing carvacrol, are generally of superior quality and highly valuable raw
material for food as well as in pharmaceutical industry. Essential oil of O. dictimus contains 70.8% of
carvacrol, while O. vulgare ssp. hirtum essential oil contains 78.5%. This study indicates the high
quality of investigated Origanum species from Greece, and indicates it to be highly valuable raw
material for food and in pharmaceutical industry.

Anatoliji i Kavkazu.
AB - Metabolomics is a new scientific multidisciplinary field that includes variousaspects of biology, chemistry and mathematics. It uses modern spectroscopic andchromatographic techniques (NMR, IC, UV, MS, GC, LC) and multivariate statisticaldata analysis to measure quantitatively and qualitatively all of the metabolites in the testorganism and thereby obtain a clear metabolic profile under test conditions. The use ofmetabolomics is not limited to the plant world, but can be applied to all livingorganisms as well as humans. A particularly important possibility is the application inmedicine as a diagnostic method or in pharmacognosy for the discovery of new naturalsources of drugs. In this thesis, the application of metabolomics to the endemic plantgenus Amphoricarpos Vis. was applied with two objectives: (a) acquiring newknowledge of the systematization of the genus, and (b) developing a method for rapiddetection of new pharmacologically active ingredients in plant material.Genus Amphoricarpos Vis. is an endemic of the western part of the BalkanPeninsula. In order to gain more insight into the taxonomic status of the genus that isstill ambiguous, a metabolomic study was applied. Blečić and Mayer1 proposed threetaxa: two species A. neumayeri Vis. and A. autariatus Blečić et Mayer, the latter dividedinto two subspecies, ssp. autariatus i ssp. bertisceus Blečič et Mayer. On the other hand,Webb2 recognizeed only one species, A. neumayeri Vis. divided into two subspecies, ssp. neumayeri i ssp. murbeckii Bošnjak. Recently, on the basis of a genomeexamination of the taxa from the West Balkans, only one species was proposed, A.neumayerianus (Vis.) Greuter.3In this dissertation all three taxa (according to Blečić and Mayer)1 were analysed. Thesamples were collected at different locations in Montenegro at the stage of flowering.1H NMR spectroscopy combined with multivariate data analysis was applied.Orthogonal Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (OPLS-DA) has been shown tobe the most effective method for discrimination of the tested samples, based on themetabolites present in the extracts. It was found that the main difference between A.autariatus and A. neumayeri was the presence of characteristic guaianolidesesquiterpene lactones (amforicarpolides). The major sesquiterpene lactones in theextract of A. neumayeri were oxidized in position 2, while the lactones present in bothsubspecies of A. autariatus were oxidized at position 9, which confirms thatsesquiterpene lactones may be chemotaxonomic markers in the Asteraceae family...

Anatoliji i Kavkazu. Glavni seskviterpenski lakton vrste A. neumayerije oksidovan u položaju 2, dok laktoni prisutni u obe podvrste A. autariatus suoksidovani u poziciji 9, što potvrđuje da seskviterpenski laktoni mogu bitihemotaksonomski markeri u porodici Asteraceae..., Metabolomics is a new scientific multidisciplinary field that includes variousaspects of biology, chemistry and mathematics. The major sesquiterpene lactones in theextract of A. neumayeri were oxidized in position 2, while the lactones present in bothsubspecies of A. autariatus were oxidized at position 9, which confirms thatsesquiterpene lactones may be chemotaxonomic markers in the Asteraceae family...",

AB - In insects, cuticular hydrocarbon (CHC) profile is involved in many important biological functions and may vary in different conditions. Among fruit fly species, Drosophila subobscura is one of the most frequently used in genetic, ecological and evolutionary research, because of its rich chromosomal polymorphism, specific behavioral repertoires and habitat preferences. In this work, we identified and quantified cuticular chemoprofile of D. subobscura. Using gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS), 25 chemical compounds were found in males and 23 compounds were found in females. Further, ANOVA confirmed significant sexual dimorphism in cuticular chemoprofile amounts. Knowledge of cuticular chemistry could contribute to further research in D. subobscura, starting from behavioral, up to ecological, since this species is recognized as an important model system for the study and monitoring of global climate changes.

AB - Terpene compounds of Tanacetum macrophyllum as 1) essential oils, obtained by hydrodistillation (HD), 2) essential oil extracts, obtained by simultaneous' hydrodistillation and extraction (SDE) and 3) volatiles, obtained by Static Headspace GC-MS analysis (HS) were processed. Monoterpenes were the most dominant (49.2%, 49.5% and 90.4%, respectively). Profiles of essential oils obtained by HD and SD were quite similar, with oxygenated monoterpenes (39.3% and 39.4%) being the most abundant. In HS volatiles oxygenated monoterpenes also dominated (57.4%). Total sesquiterpenes were abundant in HD and SDE volatiles (38.2% and 39.2%, resp.), where sesquiterpene hydrocarbons were prevalent (27.3% and 28.7%, resp.). Germacrene D was dominant in HD and SDE oils (22.0% and 23.3%, resp.) and 1,8-cineole in HS volatiles (34.3%). To our knowledge, this is the first use of Headspace technique on T macrophyllum. Furthermore, this is the first comparison of different techniques of volatile extraction in T. macrophyllum.
