AB  - In this paper, we report the  synthesis, characterization, and X-ray structure analysis of one octahedral Ni(II) complex,  [Ni(HL1 )2](BF4)2*H2O, formed by coordination of two ligands with NNS donor atom sets (HL1 ligand, (E)-2-(1-(thiazol-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide), and Ni(III) complex,  [Ni(L2 )(N3)3], formed by coordination of one hydrazone ligand coordinated through NNO donor  set and three azide anions (HL2Cl ligand, (E)−1-(2-oxo-2-(2-(1-(pyridin-2- yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)ethyl)pyridin-1-ium chloride), complemented by DFT calculations. To the best of our knowledge this is the first Ni(III) complex obtained under ambient  conditions.

AB  - In the reaction of HLC1 with Zn(BF4)2.6H20 and NaN3 in molar ratio 1 : 1 : 4 in acetonitrile/water/methanol mixture of solvents, an mononuclear Zn(II) complex (1) was obtained, with composition [ZnL(N3)2]. In complex 1, the ligand is coordinated in deprotonated, formally neutral, zwitterionic form to Zn(II) ion through the pyridine nitrogen, the imine nitrogen, and the carbonyl oxygen atoms, forming a pentacoordinated complex.
AB  - Мононуклеарни азидо комплекс Zn(II), [ZnL(N3)2] (1), добијен је у реакцији Zn(BF4)2•6Н20, NaN3 и кондензационог производа 2-ацетилпиридина и Жираровог П реагенса (HLCl) у молском односу 1: 4: 1 у смеши растварача ацетонитрил/метанол/вода. У комплексу 1 јон Zn(II) је пентакоординован NNO донорским сетом атома лиганда (L) и са два азидо лиганда (Слика 1). Лиганд (L) је координован у депротонованом, формалио неутрапном, цвитерјонском облику, преко пиридинског азота, азометинског азота и карбонилног кисеоника.

AB  - The reaction of the HL ligand, (E)-2-(1-(thiazol-2-ypethylidene)hydrazine-1 carbothioamide, with the metal salt MnCl2.4H20 in a molar ratio 1:1 in methanol/water mixture results in the formation of bis Mn(II) complex with composition [MnL2]. Complex crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system with space group P-1. The asymmetric unit consists of two crystallographically independent [Mn(L)2] complex molecules. The Mn(II) ion is hexacoordinated with two tridentate ligands L through NNS sets of donor atoms. The geometry around the Mn is described as a distorted trigonal prism.
AB  - У реакцији лиганда HL, (Е)-2-(1-(тиазол-2-ил)етилиден)хидразин-1 карботиоамид, са MnCl2•4Н2= у молском односу 1: 1 у смеши метанол/вода добијен је комплекс, опште формуле [MnL2]. Комплекс кристалише у триклиничном кристалном систему просторне групе Р-1. Асиметрична јединица комплекса састоји се од два кристалографски независна молекула комплекса [MnL2]. Jон Мn(II) је хексакоординован преко два тридентатно депротонована лиганда која садрже NNS донорски сет атома. Геометрија око централног металног јона је искривљена тригонална-призма.

The Mn(II) ion is hexacoordinated with two tridentate ligands L through NNS sets of donor atoms. The geometry around the Mn is described as a distorted trigonal prism.

The Fe(III) ion with L  form six-coordinate complex in which two deprotonated ligand molecules coordinate in a mer  arrangement, forming a distorted octahedral complex by chelation through NNS sets of donor  atoms (Fig. 1). Complex 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system with space group Pbca.

AB  - The ligand (E)-2-(1-(thiazol-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide (HL1 ) was obtained  from the condensation of 2-acetylthiazole and thiosemicarbazide. Upon reacting HL1 with  Zn(BF4)2·6H2O and NaN3 in a solvent mixture of water/methanol, mononuclear Zn(II) complex  1 with the composition [ZnL1 (N3)2] was obtained. In complex 1, Zn(II) is pentacoordinated with  the thiazole nitrogen, the azomethine nitrogen, and thiolate sulfur atoms from the deprotonated  hydrazone ligand, as well as with two azido ligands. Complex 1 crystallises in the monoclinic  crystal system with space group No.14 (P21/c cell setting). The unit cell of 1 contains four  [ZnL1 (N3)] asymmetric units. In complex 1, the Zn(II) site shows a distorted geometry, almost  midway between the square pyramid and trigonal bipyramid, established on the basis of a  calculated τ5 parameter of 0.46. The hydrazone ligand (E)-1-(2-oxo-2-(2-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)ethyl)-pyridine1-ium chloride (HL2 Cl) was obtained from the condensation reaction of 2-acetylpyridine and  Girard's P reagent. Reaction of HL2 Cl with Zn(BF4)2·6H2O and NaN3, in a mixture of  acetonitrile/water/methanol, gives mononuclear Zn(II) complex 2 with the composition  [ZnL2 (N3)2]. Reaction of HL2 Cl with Zn(BF4)2·6H2O and NaN3, in a mixture of  acetonitrile/water/methanol, gives mononuclear Zn(II) complex 2 with the composition  [ZnL2 (N3)2]. In complex 2, the Zn(II) ion has fivefold coordination with NNO-set of donor  atoms of L2 and two nitrogen atoms from the azido ligands. The calculated τ5 value of 0.08 for  [ZnL2 (N3)2] indicates that the five-coordination geometry of the Zn(II) ion is slightly distorted  square pyramidal. Evaluation of the catalytic properties of the Zn(II) complexes in the KA2 reaction shows that the  most active compound, when used as a catalyst, is complex 1. It leads to a 92 % isolated yield of  the desired propargylamine product. The catalytic activity results are in full agreement with the  findings of the DFT calculations. Complex 1 shows the highest value of molecular softness and  the lowest value of molecular hardness. This correlation, between experimental and theoretical  results, is excellently visualised in the linear relationship between the isolated yield of the  desired propargylamine product and the calculated molecular softness, S.

AB  - Microplastics is abundant in the environment, food and beverages and get ingested by humans.
Its complex interplay with proteins lead to formation of corona. Tightly bound proteins represent
hard corona, while weaker binding partners are found in soft corona. Separation of hard and soft
corona of allergenic proteins of shrimps, eggs and cow’s milk, tropomyosin (TPM), ovalbumin
(OVA) and beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) and identification of binding partners by proteomics was
aim of our study.
Allergenic proteins were purified from egg white, shrimps and cow’s milk. Binding to
polyethylene terephthalate microplastics (PET) (70-100 m) was probed at pH 7 for purified
allergens and egg white proteins. After establishment of binding equilibrium, soft and hard
corona were separated and analyzed by SDS PAGE, followed by identification of bound
proteins by nanoLC-HRMS. Binding of all allergenic proteins was observed in both soft and
hard corona. Soft corona contains exclusively intact, full length OVA, TPM and BLG. Hard
corona is enriched for truncated OVA and oligomers of TPM. OVA fragments are partially or
fully enfolded and have higher level of exposed hydrophobic patches resulting in higher affinity
for PET microplastics. In comparison to OVA and TPM, hard corona of BLG is less abundant
under similar conditions. BLG is compact globular protein with lower level of exposed
hydrophobic patches in comparison to ovalbumin and tropomyosin. In hard corona, trace
amounts of contaminating alfa-lactalbumin become enriched. In the presence of egg white
protein extract OVA forms both SC and HC on microplastics, being the dominant protein of
hard corona (with ovotransferrin). Lysozyme and ovomucin are present only in hard corona.
Both proteins are known for their strong bioactivity and represent a small fraction of total egg
white proteins.
Our results show that allergenic proteins form hard corona on PET microplastics. Among egg
white proteins, minor proteins such as lysozyme and ovomucin become enriched. Denaturing
effect of strong binding to microplastics may change functional characteristics of allergens and
bioactive proteins of foods and should be further investigated in functional assays.

AB  - Microplastic and nanoplastic particles have gained significant attention in recent years due to their potential presence in various environmental matrices, including food. This bibliometric analysis aims to explore the scientific landscape surrounding the study of microplastic and nanoplastic particles in food, shedding light on key research trends, prominent authors, and notable journals in this field. To conduct this analysis, a comprehensive search was performed on scholarly databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus, using relevant keywords such as “microplastic”, “nanoplastic”, “food”, and related terms. The analysis focused on peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2023. The search found 313 articles on microplastic and nanoplastic particles in food, indicating a growing interest in this research area. The number of publications showed an upward trend, with the most productive year being 2020 (38% of papers), followed by 2023 and 2021 (23% each). In 2020, 16% of papers were published. Among the analyzed articles, 48% were original research papers, 46% were reviews, and the remaining 6% included book chapters, perspectives, and other publications. The analysis revealed that the most prolific authors in this field include researchers such as Jansen, M.A.K., Abbasi, S., and Banerjee, A., who have significantly contributed to the study of microplastics and nanoplastics in food. Additionally, several collaborations between different research institutions were observed, emphasizing the multidisciplinary nature of this research area. Furthermore, the analysis identified key journals publishing research on microplastics and nanoplastics in food, including Science of the Total Environment, the Journal of Hazardous Materials, and Environmental Pollution. The increasing number of publications on microplastic and nanoplastic particles in food indicates the growing awareness and concern regarding the potential risks associated with these contaminants. This bibliometric analysis provides insights into the scientific landscape of microplastic and nanoplastic particles in food. The analysis demonstrates the upward trajectory of research in this field, identifies influential authors, and highlights the significant role of specific journals. Continued research and collaboration are essential to further our understanding of the impacts of microplastics and nanoplastics on food safety and human health, facilitating the development of effective mitigation strategies.

AB  - In this paper, the previously synthesized Cu(II) complex ([CuL1(N3) (CH3OH)]BF4) with N,N,N-trimethyl-2-oxo-2-(2-(1-(thiazol-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)ethan-1-aminium chloride, has been characterized and its biological activity has been studied in detail. The Cu(II) complex consists of ligand coordinated in a deprotonated, formally neutral zwitter-ionic form, via NNO atoms, one azido ligand and one methanol molecule. The Cu(II) complex was selected due to results of the cytotoxic activity, the brine shrimp test and DPPH radical scavenging activity, which were previously performed. The effects of Cu(II) complex on cell cycle phase distribution of cervical adenocarcinoma HeLa cells were investigated in order to examine the mechanisms of its anticancer activity. The measurement of intracellular ROS levels in HeLa and HaCaT cell lines were evaluated in order to explore their possible generation and the role in cytotoxic activity. The possible anti-invasive and anti-angiogenic properties of Cu(II) complex were evaluated. DNA binding experiments, including fluorescence displacement study and DNA cleavage experiments, were performed in order to obtain information on the type of DNA-metal complex interactions. © 2022 Serbian Chemical Society. AB  - The durability of enzymes in harsh conditions can be enhanced by immobilization within metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) via a process called biomimetic mineralisation. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is widely used as aprotective coating to encapsulate proteins. The formation of nucleation centres and further biocomposite particlegrowth is entirely governed by the pure electrostatic interactions between the protein’s surface and positively chargedZn(II) metal ions. It was previously shown that enhancing these electrostatic interactions by a chemical modificationof surface amino acid residues can lead to a rapid biocomposite formation. However, a chemical modification ofcarbohydrate components by periodate oxidation for glycoproteins can serve as an alternative strategy. In the presentstudy, an industrially important enzyme glucose oxidase (GOx) was selected as a model system. Periodate oxidationof GOx by 2.5 mM sodium periodate increased negative charge on the enzyme molecule. Biomineralizationexperiments with oxidized GOx resulted in higher specific activity, effectiveness factor, and higher thermostability ofthe ZIF-8 biocomposites.

AB  - Two new Zn(II) complexes with tridentate hydrazone-based ligands (condensation products of 2-acetylthiazole) were synthesized and characterized by infrared (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The complexes 1, 2 and recently synthesized [ZnL3(NCS)2] (L3 = (E)-N,N,N-trimethyl-2-oxo-2-(2-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)ethan-1-aminium) complex 3 were tested as potential catalysts for the ketone-amine-alkyne (KA2) coupling reaction. The gas-phase geometry optimization of newly synthesized and characterized Zn(II) complexes has been computed at the density functional theory (DFT)/B3LYP/6–31G level of theory, while the highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO and LUMO) energies were calculated within the time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) at B3LYP/6-31G and B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) levels of theory. From the energies of frontier molecular orbitals (HOMO–LUMO), the reactivity descriptors, such as chemical potential (μ), hardness (η), softness (S), electronegativity (χ) and electrophilicity index (ω) have been calculated. The energetic behavior of the investigated compounds (1 and 2) has been examined in gas phase and solvent media using the polarizable continuum model. For comparison reasons, the same calculations have been performed for recently synthesized [ZnL3(NCS)2] complex 3. DFT results show that compound 1 has the smaller frontier orbital gap so, it is more polarizable and is associated with a higher chemical reactivity, low kinetic stability and is termed as soft molecule.
