AB - Polymer resins based on acrylates obtained from Bis-GMA (Bisphenol A glycide methacrylate), which is suitable for photopolymerization, are used in dentistry for various purposes due to the ease of application and the possibility to influence their properties by adding reinforcements of different shapes, crystal structure and chemical compositions. Reinforcement in the form of particles based on MgAlLDH (layered double hydroxide) deposited on silica obtained from rice husks on two substrates. A metal base and glass were used. The adhesive properties are important in order to see the possibility of using these materials in applications. In order to measure the adhesive properties of the material, the composite microhardness measurement method is used by applying different loads in order to evaluate the adhesion parameter that shows the effect of the coating on the substrate. It was compared to how a pure photopolymerizing acrylate matrix bonds with a chromium-based dental alloy substrate that is used in the production of different parts of dentures by bonding to a glass substrate. Then, it was compared how composite materials are bonded to both substrates. Adhesion was monitored through the change in wetting angle between the composites, and the results were compared with the results of microindentation. It was shown that the addition of composite particles increases the adhesive properties of the composite compared to the pure matrix and that better adhesion is achieved between the composite and the metal substrate than between the composite and the glass substrate.

AB - Polymer composites based on unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) and reinforced with particles based on unmodified/modified
plant provenance biosilica particles were synthesized and characterized. An unsaturated polyester resin was obtained from
waste poly (ethylene terephthalate (PET). Biosilaca particles are made from rice husk biomass. The surface of the produced
silica particles was modified using three different silanes: 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate (MEMO), trimethoxyvinylsilane (TMEVS), and 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS). The microhardness test method was used to investigate
the mechanical properties of synthesized composite material with variations in dwell times and applied loads. Optimization of
composite microhardness value prediction in function of synthesized parameters (type of modification of silica particles) and
measurement parameters (applied loads and dwell times) was done using the method of response surface methodology (RSM)
regression analysis. The maximal microhardness values (0.459 GPa) were obtained of type modification of silica particles with
vinyl with 80% confidence for 120 experimental variables. This method can be used to choose the optimal dwell time and load
for comparison of measurements between different composite materials and to enable the choice of the material in terms of
optimization of the quality of reinforcement and quality of interphase determined by surface modification.

AB - Acrylate polymers are used in several applications such as dentistry, medicine,
and industry. The modification of their properties using the reinforcement is
of key importance for the possible applications. Layered double hydroxides are
materials that are easily synthesized by several techniques giving the possibility to modulate the chemical composition and morphology of the reinforcement and they consist of a divalent and a trivalent anion hydroxide and the
layers can be exfoliated and thus provide a material interesting for composite
reinforcement. In this paper, Mn was used as a divalent and Al as a trivalent
cation. The obtained particles were used as reinforcement for the preparation
of composites in 1, 3, and 5 wt% quantities and prepared samples were compared to the matrix consisting of PMMA. Physical mechanical properties of the
sample having the best mechanical properties (with 3 wt% of MnAl-LDH
filers) exhibited 6.38% modulus of elasticity, 27% hardness, and 10% tensile
strength improved values compared to the clear PMMA matrix. Toughness
was lowered in this sort of composite compared to the pure matrix.

Dobijeni plastifikatori (10 tež. %) su umešani u bitumen a zatim u su izvršena ispitivanja mehaničkih svojstava dobijenih proizvoda., The subject of this study is the synthesis of glycolysates from recycled poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) by depolymerization using diethylene glycol (DEG) in the presence of catalyst FASCAT 4100. The resulting glycolysate was then treated with maleic anhydride and finally with 2-octanol to obtain a 2-EtHex/MA/DEG/PET/EG/MA/2-EtHex plasticizer. The characterization of the obtained plasticizer was performed by infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transform (FTIR) and NMR spectroscopy. The obtained plasticizers were mixed into bitumen with 10 wt. % and tests of mechanical properties of obtained products were performed.",

AB - Silica particles were produced form rice husk and used as reinforcement in
the polymer matrix. The obtained silica particles' surfaces were modified with
layered double hydroxides, which enabled better reinforcement in the PMMA matrix.
Coprecipitation was used to synthetize Fe Al layered double hydroxides (LDH) with
a Fe:Al cation content of 3:1 and an FeAl-LDH: silica ratio of 1:1. X-ray diffraction,
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy
with EDS were used to characterize the synthesized particles. The prepared particle
amounts in the PMMA matrix were 1, 3, and 5 wt. %. The purpose of this study was
to see if the obtained SiO2 particles, as well as their modification with FeAl-LDH,
had any effect on the mechanical properties of polymer composite materials. The
mechanical characterization of obtained composites was done using Vickers
microindentation tests and impact testing. The Vickers micro-hardness test showed
that the addition of reinforcement increases the hardness of the composite. When
compared to the matrix, the toughness of the composite material with a higher
content of particles (5 wt. %) in the energy absorbed in this impact test was three
times higher.

AB - As a renewable resource, starch is considered to be fully biodegradable and nonpolluting to the environment but the hygroscopicity of starch is the main disadvantage for wider applicability in the production of a polymer-based material. Hydrophobically modified starch prepared using natural-based plasticizers/modifiers in a first step ([−]-diisopropyl D-tartrate [DiPT], ricinoleic acid [RA] and epoxidized soybean oil [ESO]), and maleated polypropylene (MAPP) in a second step contributed to better compatibility, and thus reinforcing of composites. Tailored processing conditions, structural/morphological properties, hydrophobicity, and water-resistance of the modified starch were established. In addition, the Charpy impact and tensile strength of composites, based on poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (EAA) and modified starches, were determined. Increased tensile strength and Young modulus of the composite using starch-modified with DiPT-MAPP, that is, 3 and 83%, respectively, indicated the possible applicability of obtained materials.

AB - Cavitation erosion of hybrid acrylate composite films with polyhedral
oligosilsesquioxanes (POSS) was investigated in this study. The hybrid films are
made with 1, 3 and 5 wt% of POSS reagents containing: (a) hydroxyl (POSS-M),
(b) both hydroxyl and allyl (POSS-M-A) and (c) methacryloyl groups (POSS-MCl).
Addition of 5 wt% POSS-M-A caused the highest microhardness increase for
49.8%, in comparison to the pure matrix material. Cavitation resistance of hybrid
films, estimated as the time-dependent mass loss, was improved by POSS addition.
POSS-M-A addition (5 wt%) contributed to 94% lower mass loss comparing
to pure Bis-GMA/TEGDMA film. Scanning electron (SEM) and atomic force
microscopy (AFM) showed the lowest surface roughness obtained for composite
with POSS-M-A. The improved hardness and wear resistance of the composite
films indicated that POSS-M-A filler enhanced interfacial adhesion and reinforcing
of the Bis-GMA/TEGDMA matrix.

AB - Composite materials based on acrylate UV-cured polymers (Bis-GMA/TEGDMA) as a matrix and reinforcements that can be selected in order to adjust the properties of the obtained composite are used in the field of dental technology. The role of reinforcement is to adjust the mechanical properties, but also to control the shrinkage during curing. As reinforcement, alumina particles doped with iron oxide (Al2O3 Fe) synthesized using the sol-gel technique were selected. In order to simulate the process of adhesive application in real conditions, in vitro testing technique and adhesion properties of synthesized adhesive were used, where tooth tissue was used as a substrate. Comparison with standard adhesives used in dentistry was used to compare adhesion. The quality of the adhesive joint was evaluated using the microhardness testing method using different loads where it is estimated how the adhesive makes a connection with the substrate. It was shown that the synthesized adhesive showed significantly enhanced adhesion compared to the standard adhesive used in dentistry (836%).

AB - Hybrid composite panels of Wood-Plastic Composites (WPC) consisting of wood and
poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were reinforced with alumina particles and made by
“hot pressing” method. Alumina-based particles were made by sol-gel technique. The
particles were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD). The resulting alumina particles
were modified with (3mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane (MPTMS), in order to obtain better
mechanical properties of the composite relative to the composite with unmodified alumina
particles. The aim of this work was to study the influence of composite structure and the
moisture absorption on bending and the impact properties of the hybrid composite. The
bending and impact tests revealed that modulus of elasticity and absorbed energy of
deformation increased with modification of alumina and slightly decrease after moisture
absorption.

AB - This study presents preparation and characterization of ethyl cellulose based nanocomposites. Successful use of simple solvent casting technique provided nanocomposites with high loads of barium ferrite magnetic nanopowder in the polymer matrix, promising significant improvement of mechanical properties. Investigation of morphology revealed formation of agglomerates that are still on nanoscopic level. Nanocomposite thin films with a higher content of the magnetic powder showed substantial enhancement of break strength, elongation and microhardness compared to the pure ethyl cellulose, which was the primary aim of this research.

AB - This study presents the route for preparation of the membrane-supporting materials with good mechanical behavior and adsorption properties that provide functionality and are easy to use in various environments. Polyethersulfone (PES) membrane-supported hydrogels were prepared via liquid phase inversion process with photopolymerization and monomer crosslinking. The obtained membranes had asymmetric structure containing dense skin on the top of a porous hydrogel as it is verified by scanning electron microscopy. Software analysis of the pore size revealed that fine pores enabled availability of the membrane active centers to metal cations. The membranes with a higher content of the polymer showed significantly improved mechanical properties compared with commonly used ion exchange membranes, which is crucial for the wastewater treatment application. Adsorption kinetics analysis showed that the hydrogel-rich bottom layer has significantly higher adsorption ability in comparison to the top layer. Adsorption kinetics of the bottom side was described by the first-order kinetics model, whereas for the the top side, phase-boundary controlled reaction model was used.

Adsorption kinetics of the bottom side was described by the first-order kinetics model, whereas for the the top side, phase-boundary controlled reaction model was used.",

AB - The classic methods of cleaning oldfashioned textile museum objects with metallic threads often do not yield the expected results. The use of laser in the conservation of these objects plays an important role as very efficient and ecologically friendly technique. Conservation and restoration of historical exhibits with metal-textile combinations is becoming ever more complex due to a huge variety of damaging factors. The paper presents the results of the corrosion laser cleaning effects on ethnographic textile with metallic threads from the holdings of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, using Nd:YAG laser. Testing of the cleaning effects was performed by optical and scanning electron microscopy. Chemical analysis of metal threads is made by EDX and XRD analysis. Parameters for successful and safe cleaning of corrosion products on metallic threads were determined.

AB - The main aim of this paper is to present the results of the morphological and chemical changes on the surface of a ceramic sample irradiated by the Nd:YAG laser. The tested sample is a part of an aqueduct tile, originating from the archaeological site of Yazd, Iran. The laser irradiation effects were studied as a function of the number of laser pulses and laser fluences around and over the damage threshold. The obtained modifications were investigated because these are essential in laser cleaning of aqueduct ceramics. The Nd: YAG laser with a wavelength, lambda, of 1064 nm and full width at half maximum (FWHM) pulse, tau, of 150 ps has been used for the surface treatment. The ceramic surface morphology modifications, induced by laser, were characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), while the composition was examined by energy-dispersive (EDX) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy. The results show that there are significant differences depending on the applied laser fluences and whether the surface is glazed or not.

AB - A great number of textile objects with metallic embroidery are kept in Ethnographic Museums all over the world. Corrosion is a process that occurs under the external chemical, mechanical and biological influences. The museum conservators invest significant efforts to provide the necessary conditions for preventive protection. The classic methods of cleaning old textile objects with metallic threads often do not yield the expected results and the use of laser in the conservation of these objects plays an important role.
Laser cleaning is an effective cleaning technique of metal corrosion layers since it provides a high degree of control. That allows fragile objects with a considerable amount of surface details. The most complicated implementation of laser is in cleaning the objects with multi-component composition such as, for example, metal and textile combination. Although there are certain published results, this domain has not been sufficiently researched because every object is a problem that requires study and comprehensive research before cleaning is attempted.
This paper shows the results of research conducted with the aim of determining optimum parameters in the process of cleaning the product of corrosion on a woman's costume part, apron, from southern Serbia (study collection of the Ethnographic museum in Belgrade). Laser cleaning was made by using the Nd:Yag laser with three wavelengths 1064 and 532 nm, and energies between 2-200mJ. The obtained results were studied with a USB optical microscope, electron microscope SEM, with EDX analysis.

AB - Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the surface characteristics of demineralized enamel after treatment with pastes containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) or casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium fluoride phosphate (CPP-ACFP) and to compare their efficacy with that of 0.05% NaF. Methods: Following formation of the artificial carious lesion, enamel slabs were divided into 4 groups (CPP-ACP, CPP-ACFP, 0.05% NaF and control) and submitted to a chemical caries model. Remineralization potential was examined using scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and microhardness test. Scanning electron microphotographs were analyzed for area, minimal, maximal and mean diameter, perimeter, roundness and number of enamel defects and percentage of tooth surface affected by defects. Results: Treatment with 0.05% NaF partly reduced the appearance of enamel defects when compared with irregular demineralized enamel. Treatment with CPP-ACP or CPP-ACFP resulted in occlusion of defects which produced more flattened enamel surface. Image analysis revealed reduction of the dimensions of the defects in the 3 experimental groups. Treatment with CPP-ACFP decreased the number of enamel defects when compared with demineralized enamel. The EDS analysis did not show differences in Ca/O, P/O and Ca/P ratios between the groups (P>0.05). Microhardness test revealed significant effects of CPP-ACP and CPP-ACFP (P LT 0.05). Conclusions: Pastes containing CPP-ACP or CPP-ACFP showed potential to remineralize enamel surface lesions.

AB - This paper presents the results of the laser cleaning effects on textile samples with corroded metallic threads. In many museum collections, there are textile exhibits like uniforms, national costumes, flags and home textile, embroidered with metallic threads. Corrosion of metal threads is one of the most common problems that damage embroidered items. In the practice, the application of conventional cleaning methods rarely gives the expected results, and the implementation of laser technology was the next step for corrosion products cleaning. The Nd:YAG laser was used to clean the corrosion of embroidered items from a museum study collection. The effects on the laser irradiated zones were investigated by optical and SEM microscopy and the EDX analysis. The laser irradiation process parameters of the metal threads corrosion

AB - Plocnik near Prokuplje is the location of the excavations of the interesting Neolithic settling having very developed pottery production for a period of about 800 years. Pottery artifacts are carrying information about the technological skills of Neolithic people and are giving the insight about their ability to control fire and firing process. This ability is performed in producing different color of their vessel and having bowls having very fine structure. In order to reconstruct the pottery production technique in the scope of the experimental archaeology two approaches were used. The classical geology approach was used to identify the origin of the clay used in the production. Petrography gives insight into the structural characteristics of the pottery. In order to reveal the technique of production of bowls and other utility pottery objects the multi slice scanner was used. The pottery has the density that is comparable to that one of the bones and the imaging techniques used for bone structure identification are used in this study.

AB - In this study the eight bowls having different shap es, sizes and grades from the Vinča II period were chosen for the examination of ceramic body morphology. The morphology of ceramic pads, prepared in the laboratory using clays that were sampled nearby the excavation site, were also considered. The optical microscopy images of the pottery ceramic body and test pads were analyzed using the ImagePro plus 4 software package. Multivariate statistical analysis was employed to classify pottery sherds and clays according to their morphology. The obtained results show that morphological characteristics of the minerals can be considered as viable in recognition of the clay source.

AB - Magnetic thin films based on iron group elements (Fe, Co, Ni) are currently used in computer's hard disk drives and in MEMS, whereas electrodeposition is a suitable method to obtain these materials. The powders of metals and alloys were obtained by electrochemical deposition at constant current density using alkaline ammonium electrolyte which consist one, two or three different elements Co, Ni and Mo. Ni and Co are deposited anomalously. The Mo element cannot be obtained electrochemically from the aqueous solutions. Electrochemical deposition of this metal is induced by codeposited iron-group metals, Ni and Co, for instance. This study investigates the influence of electrochemical parameters on composition and properties of obtained powders. Based on the obtained experimental results, it could be concluded that the particle size of deposited powders and chemical composition are influenced by the chemical composition of the electrolyte, with changing the concentration ratio of ions of metallic salts as well as current density imposed. As a consequence, the changes in magnetic properties are obvious. The structure and morphology of powders were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). For demonstration of mechanism of powder deposition Image ProPlus software for SEM microphotograph analysis was used. The values of individual objects as well as formed clusters of powders were measured by this technique. The chemical composition of the powders was determinate using Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. XRD results suggested that obtained powders were of amorphous structure.
