Mass transfer in inverse fluidized beds

AB  - In this work, the coefficient of fluid-wall mass transfer in an inverse fluidized bed was determined using the adsorption method. The experiments were carried out in a column with a diameter of 45 mm with spherical and non-spherical particles of polypropylene and polyethylene with a diameter of 3.3-4.9 mm and a density of about 930 kg m-3. A diluted solution of methylene blue was used as a fluidization medium, which was adsorbed on part of the surface of the column on silica gel. The obtained results showed that the presence of particles during inverse fluidization does not contribute significantly to mass transfer compared to the influence of particles on transfer in conventional fluidized beds. Therefore, the pseudofluid concept was introduced into the analysis and an empirical correlation was performed to determine the mass transfer coefficient. The obtained results were compared with literature correlations for inverse and conventional fluidized beds.
AB  - У овом раду је одређиван коефицијент преноса масе флуид-зид у инверзнофлуидизованом слоју применом адсорпционе методе. Експерименти су вршени у колони  пречника 45 мм са сферичним и несферичним честицама полипропилена и полиетилена  пречника 3.3-4.9 мм и густине око 930 кг м-3. Као флуидизациони медијум коришћен је  разблажени раствор метиленски плавог који је адсорбован на делу површине колоне на  силикагелу. Добијени резултати показали су да присуство честица при инверзној  флуидизацији не доприноси значајно преносу масе у поређењу са утицајем честица на  пренос масе у конвенционално флуидизованим слојевима. Због тога је у анализу уведен  концепт псеудофлуида и изведена је емпиријска корелација за одређивање коефицијента  преноса масе. Извршено је поређење добијених резултата са литературним корелацијама за  инверзну и конвенционалну флуидизације.

AB  - The main aim of this research is to show influence of different hydroxides, applied in carbon materials activation process on the electrochemical properties of activated carbon samples. The carbon material samples were prepared by hydrothermal treatment of sucrose and thermally activated using KOH, NaOH and LiOH by chemical activation method. The electrochemical properties of the obtained carbon material samples were examined by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and correlated to their physicochemical properties. Investigated samples showed characteristic capacitor-like behavior. The best result of specific capacitance was obtained for the sample synthesized treated by KOH, while the increase in capacitance follows the arrangement of the growth of ionic radius of a metal from an alkali which is used for activation. Dependence on the type of hydroxide is due to differences in the radii of a metal. The alkalis with larger radii of metal produce wider pores and consequently the structure of a porous layer become more accessible and available to the charge transfer of capacitive response.

AB  - The influence of different hydroxides, applied to activate carbon black, on the electrochemical properties of activated carbon was investigated. AB  - Испитиван је утицај различитих активирајућих хидроксида на електрохемијска својства активираних угљеничних материјала. Угљенични материјал је добијен хидротермалним третманом сахарозе, а потом активиран помоћу KOH, NaOH и LiOH. Електрохемијска својства добијених узорака испитивана су цикличном волтаметријом и спектроскопијом електрохемијске импеданције. Синтетизовани материјали показују капацитивна својства. Највећа специфична капацитивност добијена је за узорак третиран помоћу KOH, док капацитивност прати величину пречника јона метала из алкалије којом је активиран угљенични материјал.

AB  - Carbon materials with developed porosity are usually used as supports for platinum catalysts. Physico-chemical characteristics of the support influence the properties of platinum deposited and its catalytic activity. In our studies, we deposited platinum on carbon fibrous like materials obtained from platanus seeds-achenes. The precursor was chemically activated with different reagents: NaOH, pyrogallol, and H2O2, before the carbonization process. Platinum was deposited on all substrates to study the influence of the substrate properties on the activity of the catalyst. Carbon materials were characterized by nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms measurements, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. It was noticed that the adsorption characteristics of carbon support affected the structure of platinum deposits and thus their activity.

Direct synthesis of noble metal nanostructures on carbon support by hydrothermal process

AB  - Nanostructures of noble metals (Pt and Ag) on carbon support were prepared from fructose and solution of the Nobel metal salts (H2PtCl6 x 6H2O or AgNO3) under hydrothermal conditions. Commercial fructose (C6H12O6) acts as the carbon source and reducing agent and noble metal salts is a source of the metal to be incorporated in the new formed carbon material structure. The crystalline structure was examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and morphology investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The crystallite size of the deposited particles could be estimated by evaluating the line width of the Bragg peak applying the Scherrer method. All the XRD patterns clearly show the five main characteristic peaks of the face-centered cubic (fcc) crystalline for both Pt and Ag crystallite. The obtained Pt crystallite sizes were below 5.5 nm, while the Ag crystallite sizes were about 32 or 34nm.
AB  - Nanostrukture plemenitih metala (Pt i Ag) na ugljeničnom materijalu, kao nosaču, su napravljene, polazeći od fruktoze i rastvora soli plemenitih metala (H2PtCl6 x 6H2O ili AgNO3) pri hidrotermalnim uslovima. Komercijalna fruktoza (C6H12O6) deluje kao izvor ugljenika i redukujući agens, a soli plemenitih metala, kao izvor metala, koji treba da se inkorporira u novonastalu strukturu ugljeničnog materijala. Kristalita struktura je ispitivana pomoću difrakcije X-zraka (XRD) a morfologija je ispitivana pomoću skanirajuće elektronske mikroskopije (SEM). Veličina kristalita deponovanih čestica se računa iz širine linije Bragg-ovog pika koristeći Scherrer-ov metod. Svi XRD uzorci jasno pokazuju pet karakterističnih pikova površinski centrirane kristalne rešetke (fcc) i za kristalite Pt i za kristalite Ag. Dobijeni kristaliti Pt imaju veličinu manju od 5.5 nm, dok su veličine kristalita Ag oko 32 i 34nm.
