In this work unusual hemoglobin modifications were detected in hemolysates of experimental animals exposed to toluene. The protective effect of selenium administration against hemoglobin structural alterations was investigated too. On the basis of antioxidant enzyme activities, it was concluded that a new hemoglobin fraction found in animals exposed to toluene is hemoglobin modification due to the oxidative chemical species generation.
