Within the protection of industrial heritage, patents and other works of intellectual
technological heritage are assessed heritologically and technologically. The results of valorization
show that the heritological value of a patent can increase over time, regardless of whether its
technological value decreases at the same time due to the obsolescence of the use value. Therefore, the task of valorization of old patents is very sensitive, which is further complicated when patents do not represent the basic activity of the innovator, but part of his integral work, which requires additional definition of the context. In this paper, in the case study of the patent valorization of Mihajlo Petrović Alas methodological dilemmas in the approaches of heritological valorization of old patents are pointed out.
