AB - Over the last decades, bacterial resistance has become one of the emerging health threats. Particularly dangerous
are bacterial strains resistant to various antibacterial drugs. Herein, we modified graphene quantum dots (GQDs)
to produce efficient photo-induced antibacterial agents. GQDs were modified with (a) ethylene-diamine (EDA),
(b) with EDA and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), and (c) 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (TA) using carbodiimide coupling.
Photo-induced antibacterial activity of modified GQDs was tested against 8 bacterial strains. Treatment with
modified GQDs and blue light (wavelength of 470 nm) resulted in remarkable antibacterial activity with minimal
inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 7.81 μg mL -1 for K. pneumoniae and S. aureus and 3.9 μg mL-1 against MRSA
and E. faecalis. Planar organization of GQDs functionalized with AuNPs allowed direct access of molecular oxygen
to AuNPs leading to more efficient 1O2 production as well as the 1O2 production from excited GQDs. Thus,
GQDs functionalized with AuNPs showed outstanding efficiency in the battle against several bacterial strains,
particularly those that lead to nosocomial infections.

AB - A majority of the new chemical entities (NCE) that emerged as potential drug candidates in pharmaceutical development during the past 2-3 decades are practically insoluble solids consisting of ionizable molecules. Class II BCS drugs (Biopharmaceutics Classification System) exhibit poor bioavailability due to insufficient absorption in the gastrointestinal tract with slow drug release from the dosage forms and low solubility as the limiting steps for their absorption. Thus, detailed and precise study of compound solubility and the possibilities to increase solubility and dissolution rate, are at the core of the development of bioavailable drug dosage forms and clinically effective pharmaceutical products that would dissolve in gastric and intestinal fluids after oral administration or not precipitate in the blood after intravenous administration. A white paper on consensus recommendations for improving data quality in equilibrium solubility measurement of ionizable drugs emphasizes the importance of precise solubility measurements. As a part of solubility studies of a group of tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) we have shown the influence of competing counterions, such as buffering agents, complexing agents, salt coformers, tonicity adjusters, and solid-phase transformations on the aqueous solubility of studied drugs.

AB - The Rudnik Pb-Zn deposit is hosted in skarns and hornfels formed in the late Oligocene by contact metamorphism of limestones, sandstones and shales. Garnets, together with epidote, represent the main non-metallic minerals in the Rudnik skarn. In the distal skarn zone, the garnets are rare and their occurrence is related to the flow path of hydrothermal fluids. To constrain the hydrothermal and physicochemical conditions, in situ elemental SEM-WDS and LA-ICP-MS analyses, and fluid inclusion microthermometric measurements, were made. The Rudnik garnets from the distal skarn zone are predominantly of andradite-grossular composition (Adr39.3–88.9Grs2.9–53.9Alm0.5–10.0), with a small amount of spessartine. Generally, the Fe-rich garnets show a positive Eu anomaly with LREE enrichment and a HREE flat pattern, with homogenization temperatures and salinities of fluid inclusions ranging from 373 to 392°C and from 14.25 to 15.27% NaCl equivalent, respectively. The trace elements and microthermometric properties indicate that the garnets formed at moderately high temperatures, mildly acidic pH levels and increased oxygen fugacity.

AB - Fluoride and nitrate contamination in groundwater is a global concern due to their toxicity and associated negative health effects. This study incorporated a comprehensive methodology, including hydrogeochemical analysis, drinking and irrigation water quality assessment, source apportionment, and health risk estimation of groundwater fluoride and nitrate in a lithium ore deposit basin in western Serbia. Groundwater major ion hydrogeochemistry was governed by water–rock interactions, with Ca-Mg-HCO3 identified as the predominant groundwater type. The entropy-weighted water quality index (EWQI), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), and sodium percentage (%Na) revealed that 95% of the samples were of excellent to good quality for both drinking and irrigation. Moreover, the results showed that fluorides were of geogenic origin, whereas nitrates originated from agricultural activities. Although the fluoride and nitrate levels in groundwater were relatively low, averaging 1.0 mg/L and 11.1 mg/L, respectively, the results of the health risk assessment revealed that the ingestion of such groundwater can still lead to non-cancerous diseases. The threshold of one for the hazard index was exceeded in 15% and 35% of the samples for adults and children, respectively. Children were more vulnerable to non-carcinogenic risk, with fluorides being the primary contributing factor. The study outcomes can serve as a reference for other lithium-bearing ore areas and guide the management of regional groundwater resources.

AB - The degradation of sediments in urban environments worldwide is driven by population growth, urbanization, and industrialization, highlighting the need for thorough quality assessment and management strategies. As a result of these anthropogenic activities, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and styrene (BTEXS) are persistently released into the environment, polluting sediment. This study employed self-organizing maps (SOMs), positive matrix factorization (PMF), and Monte Carlo simulation of source-oriented health risks to comprehensively investigate sediment in an urban shallow lake in a mid-sized city in central Serbia. The results indicated a mean ∑BTEXS concentration of 225 µg/kg, with toluene as the dominant congener, followed by m,p-xylene, benzene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, and styrene. Three contamination sources were identified: waste solvents and plastic waste due to intensive recreational activities, and vehicle exhaust from heavy traffic surrounding the lake. Both non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks were below the permissible limits. However, children were more susceptible to health risks. Benzene from vehicle exhaust is the most responsible for non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risks in both population groups. The results of this study can help researchers to find a suitable perspective on the dynamics and impacts of BTEXS in lake sediments.

AB - This study employed 1D numerical pseudo models to examine the Upper Jurassic carbonate succession, focusing on the Mikulov Formation in the Vienna Basin region. It addresses the protracted and complex history of the Jurassic source rock play, revealing a transition from rapid syn-rift (>200 m/Ma) to slower post-rift sedimentation/subsidence of the overlying layers during extensional deformation (up to 120 m/Ma with a thickness of 1300 m). This provides valuable insights into the rift-to-drift stage of the central Alpine Tethys margin. The Mikulov marls exhibit characteristics of a post-rift passive margin with slow sedimentation rates. However, a crustal stretching analysis using syn-rift heat flow sensitivity suggested that thermal extension of the basement alone cannot fully explain the mid-Jurassic syn-rift stage in this segment of the Alpine Tethys. The sensitivity analysis showed that the mid-late Jurassic differential syn-rift sequences were exposed to slightly cooler temperatures than the crustal stretching model predicted. Heat flow values below 120 mW/m2 aligned with measurements from deeply settled Mesozoic successions, suggesting cold but short gravity-driven subsidence. This may account for the relatively low thermal maturation of the primary source rock interval identified by the time-chart analysis, despite the complex tectonic history and considerable sedimentary burial. The post-Mesozoic changes in the compaction trend are possibly linked to the compressional thrusting of the Alpine foreland and postdating listric faulting across the Vienna Basin.

AB - Lab-made biosilica (SiO2) nanoparticles were obtained from waste biomass (rice husks) and used as eco-friendly fillers in the production of nickel matrix composite films via the co-electrodeposition technique. The produced biosilica nanoparticles were characterized using XRD, FTIR, and FE-SEM/EDS. Amorphous nano-sized biosilica particles with a high SiO2 content were obtained. Various current regimes of electrodeposition, such as direct current (DC), pulsating current (PC), and reversing current (RC) regimes, were applied for the fabrication of Ni and Ni/SiO2 films from a sulfamate electrolyte. Ni films electrodeposited with or without 1.0 wt.% biosilica nanoparticles in the electrolyte were characterized using FE-SEM/EDS (morphology/elemental analyses, roundness), AFM (roughness), Vickers microindentation (microhardness), and sheet resistance. Due to the incorporation of SiO2 nanoparticles, the Ni/SiO2 films were coarser than those obtained from the pure sulfamate electrolyte. The addition of SiO2 to the sulfamate electrolyte also caused an increase in the roughness and electrical conductivity of the Ni films. The surface roughness values of the Ni/SiO2 films were approximately 44.0%, 48.8%, and 68.3% larger than those obtained for the pure Ni films produced using the DC, PC, and RC regimes, respectively. The microhardness of the Ni and Ni/SiO2 films was assessed using the Chen-Gao (C-G) composite hardness model, and it was shown that the obtained Ni/SiO2 films had a higher hardness than the pure Ni films. Depending on the applied electrodeposition regime, the hardness of the Ni films increased from 29.1% for the Ni/SiO2 films obtained using the PC regime to 95.5% for those obtained using the RC regime, reaching the maximal value of 6.880 GPa for the Ni/SiO2 films produced using the RC regime.

AB - Alzheimer’s disease is age-related multifactorial neurodegenerative disease manifested by gradual loss of memory, cognitive decline and changes in personality. Due to rapid and continuous growth of its prevalence, the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease calls for development of new and efficacies drugs, especially those that could be able to simultaneously act on more than one of possible targets of action. Aminoquinolines have proven to be a highly promising structural scaffold in the design of such a drug as cholinesterases and β-secretase 1 inhibitors. In this study, we synthesised twenty-two new 4-aminoquinolines with different halogen atom and its position in the terminal N-benzyl group or with a trifluoromethyl or a chlorine as C(7)-substituents on the quinoline moiety. All compounds were evaluated as multi-target-directedligands by determining their inhibition potency towards human acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase and β-secretase 1. All of the tested derivatives were very potent inhibitors of human acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase with inhibition constants (Ki) in the nM to low μM range. Most were estimated to be able to cross the blood–brain barrier by passive transport and were nontoxic toward cells that represented the main models of individual organs.

AB - This composite study presents detailed instructions on the applicability of the results of a sequential extraction method (SE),
coupled with statistical analyses, a Secondary Phase Enrichment Factor (Kspef), risk assessment indices, and, for the first
time, the Chemical Index of Alteration (CIA). The study gives important data on the current risk of mobility of the elements
and the methodology of appropriate measures before establishing an effective mitigation strategy and predicting the risk of
mobility after changing environmental conditions, such as the harmful effects of ongoing climate change. The combination of
techniques is used to assess the origin and contamination level of potentially toxic elements in the roadside agricultural soil
impacted by traffic at Highway E75 (Serbia). The results show that B, Ni, Co, V, Ba, Cr, As, and Mo at most localities are of
natural origin, sourced by a protracted decomposition of the geological matrix. Cu, Zn, Pb, Hg, Sb, and Cd have natural and
anthropogenic origins (traffic and agricultural activities). Ba has the highest bio/geoavailability and belongs to the group of
elements with a higher environmental risk. Groups with a moderate environmental risk include the elements As, Cd, Co, Ni,
and V. A moderate to high-risk level of contamination of the soils with Pb, Cu, Zn, Sb, and Hg is documented exclusively at
particular localities. The results of SE, coupled with the CIA coefficient, are applicable to predict the processes of chemical
alteration of the mineral components of soils, including evaluating a degree of natural soil contamination.

AB - A modified reverse co-precipitation method using glacial acetic acid to synthesize α-Bi2O3
structures is presented. The formation of an almost pure rod-like α- Bi2O3 microstructure was
confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy
analyses. A glassy carbon paste (GCP) electrode was modified with the obtained material in aim
of development of an electrochemical sensor for acetaminophen (APAP) detection using
differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Cyclic voltammetry revealed better performance of the
GCP@Bi2O3 electrode in comparison to the bare GCP. The prepared GCP@Bi2O3 sensor
successfully detected APAP in the linear concentration range from 0.05 to 12.00 μM, with the
limit of quantification (LOQ) and the limit of detection (LOD) of 36 nM and 10 nM, respectively.
Furthermore, the designed sensor showed pronounced precision, repeatability, and selectivity
toward APAP detection. The GCP@Bi2O3 sensor and associated DPV method demonstrated high
accuracy, precision, and practical utility for real-time APAP quantification in pharmaceutical
products like Caffetin®. A comparison of declared and measured APAP levels revealed excellent
recovery rates, with minimal impact from other formulation components.

AB - Metals and metal oxides have subpar antibacterial activities compared to those of small-molecule antibiotics, yet there are hopes that with proper compositional and structural adjustments this gap might be bridged. In this study, titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles were mechanically activated and combined with particulate silver through simple reduction process elicited by UV irradiation and assisted with the ultrasound. The resulting powders in various combinations (Ag vs. no Ag, activated vs. non-activated) were characterized using a range of experimental techniques and assessed for their antibacterial activities. The preparation procedure presented in this work prevails over the disadvantages of many chemical routes, most critically by avoiding the use of toxic substances. The mechanical activation did not reduce the particle size or crystallinity of TiO2 nor did it consistently alter the bandgap, yet it enabled the doubling of the amount of silver incorporable into the material. Further, while both mechanical activation and the addition of silver in the amount not exceeding 0.5 wt% produced barely detectable structural changes in the material, they both augmented its antibacterial activity. The precursor TiO2 powder produced no inhibition zone against any of the four bacterial species tested, while the mechanical activation of TiO2 led to the formation of distinct inhibition zones against each of the four bacterial species tested. The addition of silver to activated TiO2 further widened the inhibition zones and it also imparted the antibacterial activity to non-activated TiO2. The boost in the antibacterial activity achieved by the short mechanical activation was of a similar magnitude as the boost obtained after the addition of silver. The antibacterial activity was not different for different species when no silver was added to the system. However, with the addition of silver, species selectivity was obtained, as the composites were more effective against the two Gram-negative species (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae) than against the two Gram-positive ones (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis). The antibacterial activity increased with the addition of silver in the broth assay, but it was mediocre compared to that detected in the agar assay, attesting to the poor dispersability of the powders and their best performance when the bacterial cells migrate to the composite surface than vice versa. The findings of this study give hope that with appropriate microstructural or compositional alterations, the antibacterial activity of metal oxide powders and inorganic materials in general can be made comparable to that of small-molecule antibiotics.

AB - C-Phycocyanin (C-PC), the natural blue dye and the major protein in Spirulina, has high potential in the food industry due to its vivid colour and bioactive properties. However, low stability limits C-PC application potential, requiring approaches to strengthen its stability. Our study aimed to preserve C-PC by its incorporation into hydrogels formed by combining starch and β-lactoglobulin (BLG) using high-pressure (HP) processing. Notably, thermal treatment resulted in the complete loss of colour derived from C-PC. We performed a comprehensive characterization of the resulting HP gels by rheology measurements, texture profile analysis (TPA), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Different compositions of binary (BLG/C-PC) and ternary (starch/BLG/C-PC) systems were processed under high-pressure (HP) conditions reaching up to 4,500 bar. The C-PC pigment was effectively preserved by mixing BLG and starch with C-PC at pH 7, maintaining concentrations of 180, 5, and 10 mg/mL, respectively. The same concentrations of components were retained in the binary systems. Rheological properties of the gels were determined using a rheometer with plane/plane geometry, and texture analysis was conducted through TPA. These findings enabled the assessment of food gel’s properties, such as hardness, springiness, chewiness, and cohesiveness. The structural characteristics of the gels were determined by SAXS, offering insights into the interactions between C-PC, BLG, and starch after HP processing. Adding C-PC and starch formed solid gels with a larger mesh than the pure BLG gels. SEM scans of the gel surface revealed that all components influenced the overall morphology of gels. Adding starch notably influenced the gels’ visual appearance and mechanical properties, even at low concentrations. Interestingly, the presence of C-PC substantially increases the gel’s solubility in water. Our investigation highlights HP treatment’s superior effectiveness in preserving C-PC compared to high temperature treatment, evidenced by the sustained colour integrity of the C-PC blue chromophore.

AB - Mercury emissions represent a significant risk to the environment and human health. Mercury is persistent and
can circulate in the environment for thousands of years, which is why treating this toxic metal is important.
Chitosan polymer is easily obtainable, and it has good mercury adsorption characteristics. This study aimed to
improve its capabilities to absorb mercury by immobilizing phycobiliproteins (PBPs) onto the surface of chitosan
beads (chitosan–PBPs). Phycobiliproteins, light-harvesting proteins from algae and cyanobacteria, have several
industrially essential applications. These proteins can bind heavy metals with high affinities. Protein extracts
obtained from both Arthrospira platensis, with C-phycocyanin (C-PC) as the primary protein, and Porphyra
yezoensis, with R-phycocyanin (R-PC) and R-phycoerythrin (R-PE) as the dominant PBPs, were covalently
immobilized onto chitosan beads. Beads with immobilized PBPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy
and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Binding analysis showed that, on average, each chitosan
bead weighed 20 mg and immobilized 63.54 μg of PBPs from Spirulina and 44.12 μg of PBPs from Porphyra.
Immobilized proteins were still in their native state, with no visible color change months after immobilization.
Chitosan–PBPs and chitosan alone were tested for mercury adsorption at pH 4 and pH 7 by atomic absorption
spectroscopy. The tested concentration range of mercury was from 1 to 70 ppm. Affinity, calculated using
Henry’s binding isotherm, of chitosan–PBPs for mercury was twice as much higher at both pH values than
chitosan alone. Furthermore, chitosan-PBP beads were able to absorb more mercury than chitosan alone. These
results showed that the covalent immobilization of PBPs onto chitosan improves its mercury adsorption characteristics
and creates a more efficient eco-friendly adsorbent to potentially remove mercury ions in the tested
concentration range from polluted waters.

AB - This study employed a novel synthetic approach involving a modified reverse co-precipitation method utilizing glacial acetic acid to synthesize α-Bi2O3. X-ray powder diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy analyses revealed the formation of a rod-like α-Bi2O3 microstructure. The prepared material was utilized to modify a glassy carbon paste (GCP) electrode for the development of an electrochemical sensor for acetaminophen (APAP) detection using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Cyclic voltammetry studies revealed that the GCP@Bi2O3 electrode exhibited enhanced electrochemical properties compared to the bare GCP. The designed GCP@Bi2O3 sensor detected APAP in the linear concentration range from 0.05 to 12.00 µM, with LOQ and LOD of 36 nM and 10 nM, respectively. Additionally, the developed sensor demonstrated sufficient precision, repeatability, and selectivity toward APAP detection. The recovery values between the declared and found APAP content in a pharmaceutical formulation (Caffetin®) displayed the advantageous accuracy, precision, and applicability of the GCP@Bi2O3 sensor and the developed DPV method for real-time APAP detection in pharmaceuticals, with minimal interference from the matrix effect.

AB - The reverse co-precipitation method combined with calcination was applied to synthesize α-Bi2O3 rod-like microstructures. The standard co-precipitation and reverse co-precipitation approaches include using nitric acid to dissolve bismuth nitrate as a source of Bi3+ ions [1,2]. In this study, the procedure was modified since glacial acetic acid was used instead of HNO3. To the best of our knowledge, there is no literature data for the preparation of α-Bi2O3 by reverse co-precipitation using acetic acid up to now. The phase analyses calculated by the relative intensity ratio (RIR) method were obtained using the PDXL2 integrated XRPD software (Ver. 2.8.4.0; Rigaku Corporation). XRPD revealed a presence of Bi2O3 composed of P21/c polymorph (α- Bi2O3) modification (96.3(1) %). The unit cell parameters calculated by the Reference Intensity Ratio (RIR) method were close to reference values (PDF # 01-070-8243). The ω-Bi2O3 (P31c) was found in the minority (3.7(1) %). The presence of Bi2O3 (P21/c, PDF # 01-080-2589) and Bi6O7 (I4/mmm, PDF # 03-065-5490) near the limit of detection might be possible. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was also used to confirm the presence of Bi2O3. The rod-like morphology was confirmed by Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy (SEM and TEM). The Bi2O3 particles prepared by the modified reverse co-precipitation route combined with calcination are smaller in comparison to particles synthesized by standard reverse co-precipitation procedures, which include the usage of nitric acid [2]. The obtained results gave us hope that the presented synthesis approach may be a good platform for producing rod-like microstructures of α-Bi2O3, which might be successfully applied in electrochemistry and catalysis.

AB - The present study has dealt with the structural, morphological and magnetic properties of
cobalt-ferrite (CoFe2O4) and cobalt-ferrite in amorphous silica matrix (CoFe2O4/SiO2) prepared
by thermal decomposition of appropriate acetylacetonate complexes. The synthesized
materials were characterized with the use of X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), scanning
electron microscopy (SEM), electron dispersive spectrum (EDS) and transmission electron
microscopy (TEM). The presence of a single-phase cubic spinel structure was confirmed for both
investigated powders. The synthesized particles are highly agglomerated as a consequence of
their nanometric sizes and ferrimagnetic nature. The microstructure of the composite indicated
spongy porous clusters with less pronounced agglomeration than that of bare cobalt-ferrite.
Closer inspection of the EDS map revealed that the CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were homogeneously
dispersed over the silica matrix. The pure CoFe2O4 sample consisted of spherically shaped
agglomerates with the primary particles being evidently in the sub-100 nm range and mostly
polygonal in shape. Magnetic measurements were conducted using a SQUID magnetometer.
The introduction of a silica matrix led to a slight decrease in coercivity at room temperature.
The saturation magnetization value for CoFe2O4 was about 75 emu/g at ambient conditions. As
expected, the silica matrix strongly influenced the magnetization of the material (⁓7.7 emu/g).
The obtained results show the perspective for possible applications in various technological
areas.

AB - The aim of this study was to investigate the magnetic properties of novel ε-Fe2O3/SiO2
composites prepared by the microemulsion method followed by programmed annealing
treatment. The reverse micelle approach was applied using heptane and hexanol as the oil
phase, respectively. The resulting powders were characterized using a range of experimental
techniques and assessed for their magnetic properties. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD)
revealed pure ε-Fe2O3 alongside amorphous SiO2 in both cases. The nanometric nature of
ε-Fe2O3 particles uniformly incorporated into the SiO2 matrix was confirmed by Scanning and
Transmission Electron Microscopy (SEM and TEM). As a result of appropriate annealing
treatment, the obtained materials possessed high coercivity values. The findings of this study
give hope that with appropriate synthesis alterations, pure ε-Fe2O3 with superior magnetic
properties can be obtained which opens the way for its successful applications in technology.

The obtained results show the perspective for possible applications in various technological
areas.

AB - A modified reverse co-precipitation method using glacial acetic acid to synthesize α-Bi2O3 structures is presented. The formation of an almost pure rod-like α- Bi2O3 microstructure was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning and transmission electron microscopy analyses. A glassy carbon paste (GCP) electrode was modified with the obtained material in aim of development of an electrochemical sensor for acetaminophen (APAP) detection using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Cyclic voltammetry revealed better performance of the GCP@Bi2O3 electrode in comparison to the bare GCP. The prepared GCP@Bi2O3 sensor successfully detected APAP in the linear concentration range from 0.05 to 12.00 μM, with the limit of quantification (LOQ) and the limit of detection (LOD) of 36 nM and 10 nM, respectively. Furthermore, the designed sensor showed pronounced precision, repeatability, and selectivity toward APAP detection. The GCP@Bi2O3 sensor and associated DPV method demonstrated high accuracy, precision, and practical utility for real-time APAP quantification in pharmaceutical products like Caffetin®. A comparison of declared and measured APAP levels revealed excellent recovery rates, with minimal impact from other formulation components.

AB - The concept of the genus Clinopodium L. has changed considerably since its first description. Most of the currently accepted species of the genus have traditionally been treated as separate genera in the group Satureja sensu lato: Clinopodium L., Calamintha sensu Miller or Moench, and Acinos sensu Miller or Moench. This study aimed to gain a better insight into the species diversity of Clinopodium L. from the Balkans by analyzing the taxa that have traditionally been placed in separate genera. The alkane profile and the micromorphological characteristics of the leaves are analyzed. The leaves are visualized using scanning electron microscopy, and alkanes are isolated using n-hexane as a solvent and analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The alkane profile showed the differentiation of the Acinos-group from the other taxa based on the dominant n-C31, while most of the other taxa contained n-C33 as the dominant alkane. The micromorphological features also showed clear differences between the previously recognized genera, especially in the capitate trichomes. The results showed that micromorphological patterns are highly variable in certain groups of the genus Clinopodium.

AB - Data processing and data extraction are the first, and most often crucial, steps in metabolomics and multivariate data analysis in general. There are several software solutions for these purposes in GC-MS metabolomics. It becomes unclear which platform offers what kind of data and how that information influences the analysis’s conclusions. In this study, selected analytical platforms for GC-MS metabolomics profiling, SpectConnect and XCMS as well as MestReNova software, were used to process the results of the HS-SPME/GC-MS aroma analyses of several blackberry varieties. In addition, a detailed analysis of the identification of the individual components of the blackberry aroma club varieties was performed. In total, 72 components were detected in the XCMS platform, 119 in SpectConnect, and 87 and 167 in MestReNova, with automatic integral and manual correction, respectively, as well as 219 aroma components after manual analysis of GC-MS chromatograms. The obtained datasets were fed, for multivariate data analysis, to SIMCA software, and underwent the creation of PCA, OPLS, and OPLS-DA models. The results of the validation tests and VIP-pred. scores were analyzed in detail.
