AB - Electrodeposition of Al-Ti based materials is an attractive process offering
many advantages over more conventional processing methods. A number of articles on
aluminium-titanium intermetallics electrodeposited from electrolyte made of 2AlCb+NaCl or
from ionic liquid (IL) AlCb- 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride have been reported. We
are reporting on Al-Ti electrodeposition from equimolar chloroaluminate molten salt
containing up to 0.97 at.% Ti ions added into the electrolyte by potentiostatic dissolution of a
titanium plate at 200°C. Titanium dissolution and titanium and aluminium depositions were
conducted by linear sweep voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The working electrodes
used were titanium and glassy carbon (GC). The voltammograms obtained in the electrolyte
without in advance introduced Ti ions indicated titanium and alwrunium deposition and
anodic responses characteristics of Al, Ti and Alffi alloys dissolutions. The voltammograms
on Ti from the electrolyte with Ti ions reiterated the said results exhibiting higher current
densities under the same conditions. The voltammograms on glassy carbon electrode done in
equimolar chloroaluminate molten salt with Ti ions present confirmed the general picture
already seen with Ti working electrode under the same conditions, Al and Ti deposition.
