AB  - Hydrogenation of the animal fats and edible oils is a very important operation in the fats and oils industry. A catalyst usually used in industrial processes of the tallow and fat hydrogenation and in the vegetable oils selective hydrogenation, is a nickel catalyst deposited on a silicate support. Choice and activation of the support are of the vital importance for obtaining a highly active hydrogenation catalyst. As a support suitable for the catalyst's synthesis, we have chosen the natural biogenic sediment rock - diatomite earth. By an appropriate chemical and thermal treatment of the domestic crude diatomite, we have obtained a type of the activated support with performances, in comparison with the same-class commercial supports, quite satisfying the requirements.
AB  - Hidrogenacija životinjskih masti i jestivih biljnih ulja je veoma važna operacija u industriji masti i ulja. Katalizator koji se uobičajeno upotrebljava u industrijskom procesu hidrogenacije masti i lojeva i u selektivnoj hidrogenaciji biljnih ulja, je nikal nanešen na silikatni nosač. Izbor i aktivacija nosača su od vitalnog značaja za dobijanje visoko-aktivnog hidrogenacionog katalizatora. Kao pogodan nosač za sintezu katalizatora odabrana je prirodna biogena sedimentna stena - dijatomejska zemlja. Pogodnim mehaničkim, hemijskim i termičkim tretmanom domaćeg sirovog dijatomita, dobijen je tip aktiviranog nosača sa zadovoljavajućim performansama u poređenju sa komercijalnim nosačima istog tipa.

The kinetics of the partial dehydration of gibbsite to activated alumina in a reactor for pneumatic transport

AB  - The dehydration kinetics of gibbsite to activated alumina was investigated at four different temperatures between 883 K and 943 K in a reactor for pneumatic transport in the dilute two phase flow regime. The first order kinetic behavior of this reaction with respect to the water content of the solid material was proved and an activation energy of 66.5 kJ/mol was calculated. The effect of residence time on the water content is given and compared with theoretical calculations. The water content and other characteristics of the products depend on two main parameters, one is the short residence time and the other is the temperature of the dehydration of gibbsite. The short residence time of the gibbsite particles in a reactor for pneumatic transport prevents crystallization into new phases, as established from XRD analysis data. Reactive amorphous alumina powder, with a specific surface area of 250 m2/g, suitable as a precursor for catalyst supports is obtained.
AB  - Kratkovremena termička razgradnja gibsita je vršena u reaktoru za pneumatski transport čestica na temperaturama iznad 883 K i vremenu boravka ispod 1 sekunde. Dobijeni aktivirani prah ima visok stepen amorfizacije i mali procenat polaznog gibsita utvrđen rendgenostrukturnom analizom. Kinetika parcijalne dehidratacije gibsita je određivana u temperaturnom intervalu od 883 K do 943 K. Pokazano je da je reakcija dehidratacije gibsita prvog reda u odnosu na sadržaj vode u čvrstom materijalu i izračunata energija aktivacije iznosi 66.5 kJ/mol. Određeno je optimalno vreme boravka čestica gibsita i temperatura dehidratacije gibsita u poluindustrijskom postrojenju, kao i uticaj temperature aktivacije na sadržaj vode u aktiviranom produktu.

AB  - In this study, the influence of the type and content of inert component in the reaction mixture on the properties of crosslinked macroporous copolymers of 4-vinyl pyridine and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, poly (4-VP-co-EGDMA), synthesized by suspension copolymerization was studied. n-Heptane, n-octane, n-nonane, octanol and dodecanol were used the inert component. The porosity parameters of the synthesized copolymers were determined by mercury porosimetry. Morphology of copolymer particles was characterized by scanning electron microscopy. It was shown that all the synthesized poly (4-VP-co-EGDMA) samples have globular structure. Additionaly, our results showed that it was possible to influence the size of the globules, their agglomeration and spatial arrangements and also the porosity parameters of the synthesized copolymers by the changing type and ratio of the inert component in the reaction mixture.
AB  - U okviru ovoga rada prikazani su rezultati dobijeni izučavanjem uticaja vrste i udela inertne komponente u reakcionoj smeši na svojstava umreženog makro-poroznog kopolimera 4-vinilpiridina i etilenglikoldimetakrilata, poli(4-VP-co-EGDMA), sintetizovanog suspenzionom kopolimerizacijom. U svojstvu inertne komponente korišćeni su: n-heptan, n-oktan, n-nonan, oktanol i dodekanol. Parametri porozne strukture sintetizovanih kopolimera su određivani metodom živine porozimetrije, a morfologija pomoću skenirajućeg elektronskog mikroskopa. Pokazano je da svi sintetizovani uzorci poli(4-VP-co-EGDMA) imaju globularnu strukturu i da se izmenom vrste i udela inertne komponente u reakcionoj smeši može uticati na veličinu globula, njihovu aglomeraciju i raspodelu aglomerata u prostoru, a samim tim i na parametre porozne strukture sintetizovanih kopolimera.

AB  - In this paper, the results obtained during extensive research on the synthesis, properties and application of cross linked copolymers, performed at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy (Department of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry) and at the IChTM (Center for Catalysis and Chemical Engineering and Center for Chemistry) are summarized. According to the obtained results, changes in the composition of the inert component and the content, type and amount of the crosslinking agent, as well as the type of copolymerization reaction, all strongly influence the porosity parameters of the synthesized macroporous copolymers. Also, it was shown that the synthesized copolymers of glycidyl methacrylate, GMA, and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, EGDMA, modified with ethylene diamine can be used for the selective sorption of gold and platinum from mixed solutions containing copper, cobalt and nickel ions.
AB  - U okviru ovoga rada prikazani su rezultati dobijeni u toku višegodišnjeg izučavanja sinteze, svojstava i primene makroporoznih umreženih kopolimera na bazi metakrilata, koja su obavljena pri Katedri za fizičku hemiju i elektrohemiju Tehnološko-metalurškog fakulteta u Beogradu, Centra za katalizu i hemijsko inženjerstvo i Centra za hemiju Instituta za hemiju, tehnologiju i metalurgiju u Beogradu. Pokazano je da se izmenom sastava i udela inertne komponente, vrste i udela umreživača, kao i načina izvođenja reakcije kopolimerizacije može bitno uticati na parametre porozne strukture sintetizovanih umreženih makroporoznih kopolimera i na taj način njihova svojstva prilagoditi različitim potrebama. Pokazano je takođe da se sintetizovani kopolimeri glicidilmetakrilata i etilenglikoldimetakrilata obrađeni sa etilendiaminom mogu uspešno koristiti za selektivno izdvajanje platine iz mešanih rastvora sa jonima bakra, kobalta i nikla.

Properties of activated alumina obtained by flash calcination of gibbsite

AB  - On exposing gibbsite, with granulation below 10 μm to flash calcination of 0.5 s in the regime of pneumatic transport and at temperatures above 883 K, a microcrystalline material with a high degree of amorphization was obtained, as established from data of XRD analysis. It was shown that at 883 K the mechanism of gibbsite dehydration changes with a decrease of the activation energy from 141 to 53 kJ/mol. The obtained activated alumina is characterized by a specific surface area of over 200 m2/g and a pore structure with micro- and mesopores developed in the inside of grains of the starting material.
