AB - In the research phase of nuclear materials from the Backa area (NW of Serbia), hydrogeochemical prospecting was applied, which covers an area of about 500 km2. Samples were collected from surface water, from sources and wells, and bores. Combined hydrogeochemical methods included the examination of U, Ra, Pb, Zn, Cu, Mo, Li, Sr; anions HCO3-, SO42-, Cl-; cations Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+, as well as the determination of SiO2, Eh, Ep and pH values. Additional testing determined the water content: NO3, F, Br, J, P. Value content of uranium (U) varied in the range of 0.1 - 125 ppb; Ra 0.026 - 0.33 Bq/l; Rn 1.45 - 32.63 Bq/l. At selected locations the uranium content in the A - horizon (15 - 20 cm) were determined. According to the geological and structural characteristics of the research area, results are shown on the maps in scale of 1:50000 and on appropriate diagrams and tables. The aim of this study was the application of geochemical prospecting method for the identification of geopathogenic zones of the influence of natural radionuclides in the rural settlements environment.

AB - Hyperalkaline (pH>10.5) springs are extremely rare. There are only about ten in the entire world. This type of water has been identified in an ultramafic massif in central Serbia, on Mt. Studena, during the course of investigations conducted in 2017. The investigations included prospecting, terrain mapping and sampling, followed by assessment of data collected in situ and from laboratory analyses. The hyperalkaline spring is of the ascending type, its yield is very low (~0.05 L/s), and the water emerges in a diffuse fashion along fractures. The spring water is of the Ca-OH type, the pH level is 11.6 and the water temperature 11.2°C. The drainage area of the spring, like the entire Mt. Studena, is built up of Paleozoic ultramafic rocks, which geotectonically belong to the External Vardar Subzone. The spring is situated in the floodplain of the Brezanska River, whose channel is the local base level of erosion. The primary point of groundwater emergence is in solid ultramafic rocks, within a zone of fractures up to 0.5 mm wide, over a land area of ~1.5 m2. The paper describes a conceptual model of the formation of hyperalkaline water for the ascending spring in the ultramafic valley of the Brezanska River, on the northern slopes of Mt. Studena. The pH level of the groundwater is indicative of contemporary serpentinization, deep groundwater circulation and a prolonged contact between groundwater and ultramafic rocks along secondary fracture systems.

AB - Based on the results of geological-geophysical surveys and structural drillings, the promising area was allocated, in terms of geothermal energy, which is important for the development of tourism, industrial and agricultural facilities in rural villages in Vojvodina. The exploration area includes the Southern edge of the Pannonian Basin. Small thickness of the earth's crust-lithosphere places the Pannonian basin, among the most promising geothermal areas in Europe. The use of renewable energy sources - geothermal energy is of the importantance, regarding to the reduction in reserve of fossil fuels and the impact of emissions on the global warming.
Among the main factors which are affecting the formal assessment of the potential for geothermal energy are low competitive prices of fossil fuels, inadequate legislation and a lack of finance.

AB - In the phase of regional semi-detail and detail geochemical researches of nuclear and
other mineral raw materials, lithogeochemical, hydrogeochemical, metalometric and
atmogeochemical prospection were applied. In samples of different geochemical
environments, a special attention was given to gammaspectrometrical researches of rock
and stream sediments samples of U238, Th232, K40, in water, U, Ra, Rn, and Rn in air and
other toxic elements.
Depending on how much the area is explored and in accordance with geological,
structural and metallogenic characteristics of the terrain, data base of laboratory testing
has been formed. Concentrations of radioactive and other elements were determined and
presented in geochemical maps, in different ratios. Geochemical data base shown in
maps is basis for exploration of anthropogenic influence and ambient degradation in
living environment of rural settlements. Data integration in ecological informational
system of certain regions and wider, provides us basis for identification of
geopathogenic zones of the influence of natural radionuclides and other toxic elements
on living environment.
Research results of selected regions and locations in Serbia have been shown in
geochemical maps, diagrams and in tables.

AB - Research area included magmatic sediment complex at eastern slopes of the mountain Kopaonik, with numerous ore occurrences of Pb, Zn, Ag and ore fields Belo brdo in the north and Koporić-Štava in the south.

Among the methods of geochemical prospection, lithogeochemical, hydrogeochemical and metalometric researches were applied, in territory that covers the area of 99 km2. Geochemical prospection of Pb and Zn was adjusted to geological-morphological-hydrographic and metallogenic characteristics of the terrain.

In the first phase, geological-geochemical profiling was conducted in order to identify lithological elements at potential carriers of the mineralization of Pb and Zn.

Using lithogeochemical prospection, anomalous concentrations were detected at several locations and their content values vary: Pb from 60 ppm to 6200 ppm and Zn from 73 ppm to 3800 ppm.

By metalometric prospection anomalies were detected in stream sediments in which contents vary for: Pb from 13 ppm to 8230 ppm, and for Zn from 21 ppm to 3130 ppm.

Using hydrogeochemical prospection increased contents of Pb and Zn were detected in water and values vary within the interval: for Pb from 0,013 µg/L to 0,214 µg/L and for Zn from 0,52 µg/L to 0,185 µg/L.

Research results are presented in geochemical maps in ratio 1:25000 and corresponding geological-geochemical profiles, diagrams and tables.

In the examined area there are numerous settlements for which these researches are particularly important, from the aspect of tourism development, spatial planning and environmental protection.

AB - Geochemical investigations in order to identify the mineral deposits, as well as the sources of water supply of rural settlements included in the area of Bela Crkva, between the Nera and the Karaš rivers, draining the Neogene and Quaternary sediments. During the prospecting, water samples were collected from surface water streams, springs, wells, drills, water reservoirs, as well as the samples of stream sediments and rocks. Hydrogeochemical investigations are of significance, where, in the water of Vrsac hills, elevated levels of radionuclides U, Ra and Rn, and other toxic elements were detected with values above maximum allowed concentrations for drinking water. The wells of rural households had increased levels of Fe and Mn, as well as the increased mineralization, conductivity, and nitrogen cycle. The concentration of heavy metals in water wells was increased in the most settlements around Bela Crkva, as well as in Češko Selo, Banatska Subotica, Kuštilj, Jablanka and Karaš river. From the water accumulations formed in the Quaternary sediments southwest from Bela Crkva, samples of water, mud, overbank sediments, and A-horizon were collected. The water samles were determined on: Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Al, NH4, NO3, SO4, HCO3, Cl, F, Ep, Eh, pH value, mineralization, Pb, Cd, Co, Ni, Cr, Cu, Zn, H2S, O2, CO2, U, Ra, Rn, As, Hg, Br. In the solid samples, Au, Ag, Pb, Zn, and other elements, as well as the content of 238U, 232Th and 40K were determined. Test results are presented in tables, diagrams, and hydrogeochemical maps.
U uzorcima voda određivani su : Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Al, NH4, NO3, SO4, HCO3, Cl, F, Ep, Eh, pH, mineralizacija, Pb, Cd, Co, Ni, Cr, Cu, Zn, H2S, O2, CO2, U, Ra, Rn, As, Hg, Br, u čvrstim uzorcima Au, Ag, Pb, Zn, U i dr. elementi, kao i sadržaji U, Th i 40K. Rezultati ispitivanja prikazani su: tabelama dijagramima i hidrogeohemijskim kartama.

AB - Geochemical mapping of riverbank profiles of the basin area of the river Ibar was performed in the purpose of making regional geochemical map of Serbia 1:1000000. In this area, deposits of lead and zinc are located, and they are characterized by very complex geological composition. Sampling net at chosen locations of riverbank profiles was adjusted to the morphological and hydrographic characteristics of the terrain. At every profile, samples were collected from A-horizon, Ob-overbank sediment and S-active stream sediment, while tracking the changes of lithological members, in accordance to the WEGS methodology (Western European Geological Surveys). The preserved geochemical track in the overbank sediment is of special significance for correlation the results of chemical elements in the surface part of (A-horizon) and active contemporary stream sediment. In the analytical process, beside determining contents of Pb, Zn, Cu, Co, Ni, Cr, Sb, V, Cd and other elements, the radiometric examinations of contents of U238, Th232 and K40, were also conducted as well as the appropriate sedimentological analyses. On the basis of geochemical prospection results, a data base was formed which represents a foundation for estimation of anthropogenic influence on the living environment of rural settlements in the basin area of the river Ibar. In accordance to the geological- structural and morphological characteristics of the terrain, the results are applicable in the research of mineral raw materials, in agriculture, forestry, geomedicine, etc.

AB - According to WEGS methodology geochemical mapping of coastal profiles of the river basins of eastern, central and part of Southern Serbia was performed. Samples were collected from the A-horizon, OB-horizon and stream sediment on the surface of 60000 km2. In all samples, in addition to chemical tests, the sedimentological and partly mineralogical examinations were performed. Thus, on the location of the coastal profile Timok, a new mineral jarosite was found, which was not registered on the territory of Serbia.
Applied sampling methodology, the results of the chemical tests and data processing of additive scattering halos (Cu + Pb + Zn) are of the importance for the assessment of the impact of toxic elements on the environment of the region. In the purpose of isolating geochemical provinces and in accordance with geological structural characteristics of the field, data processing of additive scattering halos (Cu + Pb + Zn) were processed in the area of East, Central, Western and in the part of the Southern Serbia.
In Eastern Serbia, samples of coastal profiles were collected from the A-horizon, OB-overbank and stream sediment-S at 33 locations. The presented results are related to the content of additive scattering halos (Cu + Pb + Zn) in stream sediments. Values of content (Cu + Pb + Zn) vary in the range of 18.7 ppm to 2126.3 ppm with an average content of = 67.62 ppm. Surface streams, from which stream sediments were sampled, gravitate towards basins of South Morava, Velika Morava and Danube. In the Central-Western part and in the part of the Southern Serbia samples of coastal profiles were collected from the A-horizon, OB-overbank and stream sediments at 37 coastal locations. The results are related to the content of additive scattering halos (Cu + Pb + Zn) in stream sediments. Values of content (Cu + Pb + Zn) vary in the range of 11.0 ppm to 13636.0 ppm, with an average content of 108.3 ppm. Surface streams gravitate towards basins of Western, South and Great Morava.
The applicability of the results of the additive scattering halos (Cu + Pb + Zn) in stream and other sediments, in correlation with the A-horizon and OB-overbank sediment, present the base for regional geological exploration of mineral deposits, geochemical provinces and epidemiological studies.

AB - A regional geochemical mapping of Serbia has been done, according to conception of making geochemical atlas of Western Europe. Research were conducted in the areas of eastern, western, southern and central Serbia, including the areas of Gnjilane, Pristina, Kosovska Mitrovica, and on the north areas of Vrsac – Bela Crkva and Pancevo.
Using geochemical prospection, the samples of different environments of the geosphere („Overbank“ sediments, stream sediments and A-horizons) were systematically collected by zones whose area is from 60 to 600 km2, and the average density of sampling is a sample for 400 km2, including an area of 60000 km2. During geochemical prospection, on each location, in coastal profile lithogeochemical mapping and sampling of lithologic members was performed in which the geochemical information from larger drainage area was preserved. The sampling net is adjusted to the hydrographic characteristics of the terrain. The methodology of work is aligned with the criteria that working group for regional Geochemical mapping proposed on the meeting Western European geochemical associations (WEGS). In collected samples content of 38 elements was determined using appropriate analytical methods and international standards. Of particular imortance are results of radionuclides analyses 238U, 232Th, 40K, especially in depleted uranium contaminated areas. This paper presents the results of research in Eastern Serbia in the period of postindustrial development of the region, and importance of the coastal profile in defining the status preindustrial region. A method of mathematical statistics was used for data processing, and program BRGM-GDM 5 for making maps.
By defining the ecological status of the region of Eastern Serbia, the basis for monitoring anthropogenic impacts on the environment was formed.
