AB - Cobalt molybdate is of importantce for the development of mobile telecommunication systems, such as mobile phones and high-quality microwave dielectric ceramics for high resonant frequency selectivity in microwave devices. Due to their special catalytic properties, cobalt molybdates have been used as catalysts in many chemical and petrochemical processes. The CoMoO4 nanoparticles ware synthetized in a simple, quick, and inexpensive way, by using a glycine nitrate procedure (GNP), with and without calcination at 450 °C [1], and investigated by applying the Briggs-Rauscher oscillatory reaction method [2]. The complex oscillatory BR reaction is sensitive to different insoluble analyte addition [3]. This feature of BR oscillatory reaction is used to investigate effect of different masses of GNP synthetized (with and without calcination at 450 °C) CoMoO4 samples on oscillatory dynamics. These two samples give the complete different effects in BR reaction. Obtained results strongly suggest that BR oscillatory reaction could be used for distinguishing these two samples, opening new direction in the investigation of ceramics materials.

AB - Thermal monitoring of a Briggs-Rauscher oscillatory reaction with a phase transition or the state I (low concentration of iodide and iodine) to the state II (high concentration of iodide and iodine) transition with formation of new solid iodine phase is presented. This is the very first time that an oscillatory reaction and the state I to state II transition have been monitored using a thermal camera. It should be pointed out, that the BR reaction solution is not homogenized by stirring, and that only oxygen production influence the solution mixing. Therefore, the analysis was done at three sampling points on the cuvette where temperature change over time was observed, and compared with average temperature distribution. The first point is chosen to correspond to the top of the solution in the cuvette, followed by one in the middle of the volume and one at the very bottom of the cuvette. Although the state I to the state II transition itself is not reproducible (investigated transition exhibits crazy clock behavior), the overall temperature pattern has shown a reproducible character.

AB - Recently, two different effects of phosphate tungsten (PWB) and phosphate molybdenum (PMoB) bronzes (obtained by thermal treatment), on oscillatory Briggs-Rauscher (BR) dynamic have been found [1]. Although both are insoluble in BR solution [2], the addition of different masses of PWB linearly decreases the BR oscillation time, while the addition of different masses of PMoB had no effects on the BR reaction. Furthermore, PWB has an identical role as metal catalyst Mn2+ in
BR reaction and for obtained behavior is probably responsible the different mechanisms of heterogeneous catalysis of these bronzes in oscillatory reaction. Therefore, a deeper investigation was done in order to find the major structural characteristic of these two bronzes by using the XRPD method. What is so different for these two bronzes, causing dissimilar effects in BR
reaction, is it “just” catalytic activity of central cation or there is something more? The XRPD method confirmed very different structures of PWB and PMoB as monoclinic and orthorhombic, respectively [3,4]. This work tries to connect the structural properties of PWB and PMoB with BR oscillatory reaction responses, expanding the usage of oscillatory reaction in material science and catalysis, in general.

AB - In this work, properties of Briggs-Rauscher (BR) oscillatory reaction in a presence of acetone, as a non-polar solvent, were investigated. The BR reaction itself is oxidation of malonic acid (CH2(COOH)2) using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide (H202) and potassium iodate (KI03), catalyzed by metal ion (usually Mn2+) in an acidic aqueous solution. It is well-known that BR reaction, as a sensitive matrix, can be used for different analyte properties examination: concentration, antioxidant/antiradical and catalytic activity. As noted, BR reaction occurs in a water medium and therefore the application of these assays is limited to water-soluble samples. Here, the BR reaction is carried out in aceton-water mixture (20 vol%) with the aim to investigate how this non-polar solvent affects the course of the reaction. The influence of solvent can reflect complex phenomena involving many different intermolecular interactions, potentially affecting oscillatory dynamics. Obtained results could be used in a kinetics investigation of the BR reaction and the oscillatory reactions in general.

AB - The Briggs-Rauscher (BR) reaction is visually the most interesting oscillating reaction, in which the oxidation of malonic acid by a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and iodate is catalyzed by Mn2+metal ion in acidic solution. It is very sensitive to different analyte addition. Ordinarily, analyte addition causes the linear response of the BR oscillating system, which is used fordetermining the analyte’santioxidant/antiradicalor catalytic activity. In order to investigate the effects of different clay addition on BR oscillatory dynamics, bentonite clays from different deposits: Wyoming (Swy-2), Texas (STx-1b), Idaho (SbId-1), Arizona (SAz-2), Bogovina and Mečji Do, both from Serbia were applied. In the case of bentonite clays addition, the response of the BR oscillating system resulted inacomplex behavior pattern. Meaning that the addition of all investigated clays causeda complex function oscillatory period vs. clay’s mass, which passes through the maximum. The position of maximum varied for different bentonite clays. However, it is the first time to obtain such a behavior pattern. Results found areof great importance for the examination of catalytic and heterogeneous phenomena of oscillatory processes in general.

AB - Dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze has been successfully synthesized and characterized
(TGA, DSC, FTIR). For the preparation of dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze (Dy-PWB), as a starting material is used 12-tungstophosporic heteropoly acid H3PW12O40×29H2O (PWA), which was first transformed into H3PW12O40×6H2O (6-PWA) by heating of PWA at 80 °C in a kiln. Aqueous solution H3PW12O40×6H2O is then commingled with aqueous solution of DyCl3×6H2O, slightly heated in order to start the crystallization process and left during the night to finish the crystallization. The obtained salt DyPW12O40×nH2O is then heated in furnace, from room temperature to 600 °C, whereby the yellow crystals of dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze are formed. The structure and its phase transformations were characterized by thermal analysis (TGA and DSC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectra (FTIR). In this paper, the dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze has been synthesized and characterized for the first time in order to obtain more information about its structure, chemical features and potential practical application. The potential practical application of Dy-PWB is in its installation in batteries and fuel cells, as catalyst for the reduction of oxygen in acidic electrolytes. Due to the specific yellow color and its thermal stability, Dy-PWB could also be used as a pigment.

AB - Thanks to the great sensitivity of oscillating reactions to external perturbations, which primarily refers to different analyte addition, chemical oscillators have become very popular for analytic determination of “reactive” analytes, and thus expand their use to many areas, such as environmental, pharmacy, food science etc. This paper aims at an electrochemical examination of the pyrocatechol (analyte) influence on the Bray-Liebhafsky (BL) reaction after the oscillatory period, precisely after six regular oscillations. Pyrocatechol addition provokes the appearance of one more BL oscillation after the second induction period. For investigated BL system, in a range of pyrocatechol concentrations from 2.7 × 10-6 M to 1.2 × 10-4 M, the period between sixth and seventh oscillations shows linear dependence with added pyrocatechol concentration. The obtained regression equation can be a useful tool for analytical purposes and accordingly, potential determination of unknown pyrocatechol concentration.

AB - The effect of different concentration of gallic acid (GA) on the oscillatory behavior of the Briggs-Rauscher (BR) reaction is reported. In this work, the sample was injected before the start of oscillations. The main effect is the appearance of an induction time that increases with the concentration of GA added. Other parameters as a number of oscillations and oscillatory period are
affected. These latter linearly depend on the concentration and can be used for quantitative GA analytical assay in a GA concentration range 3.00×10-5 M − 4.00×10-4 M. The perturbation is very different from that previously reported, in which samples of phenolics were added to an active BR mixture, indicating that the mechanism of perturbation largely depends on the injection point.

AB - According to scientific community and professional specialists, urging necessity to increase capacity of sources of energy can be partially achieved by using biomass as a raw material. This approach is justified by both economic and ecological reasons. In this paper the results of chemical study of the biomass Miscanthus × giganteus Greef et Deu. cultivated in the Republic of Serbia in the experimental field of the Institute for Application of Nuclear Energy in Zemun were presented. Study of an amount of ashes, elemental analysis of the biomass, and calorific value of the biomass (both higher and lower), which are critical parameters when estimating the quality of a biofuel, points out the possibility of utilization of the miscantus biomass as a fuel. Samples of the plant material for this study were collected during two harvesting periods: in the fall, when the biological yield is the highest, and at the end of the winter, when a highest quality biomass with respect to the combustion is obtained do to a decrease in moisture content and remobilization of the macro- and micronutrients from the above-ground parts of the plants to the rhizomes. Values of the studied parameters indicate that biomass meets the 'green' energy requirements because the amounts of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur in the combustion products would not threaten current quality of the environment and the amount of carbon dioxide produced would be consumed in the process of photosynthesis. Results of the chemical analyses strongly suggest to a high potential of utilization of the miscantus biomass as a biofuel (renewable source of energy) to generate thermal energy.
