AB - Modern lifestyle has increased our utilization of pollutants such as heavy metals, aromatic 17 compounds, and contaminants of rising concern involving pharmaceutical and personal products 18 and other materials that may have an important environmental impact. Especially, the ultimate re-19 sults of intense use of highly stable materials, such as heavy metals and chemical restudies are that 20 they turn into waste materials which, when discharged, accumulate in the environment water bod-21 ies. In this context, the present review presents application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in 22 electrochemiluminescent (ECL) sensing for water pollutant detection. MOF composites applied as 23 innovative luminophore or luminophore carriers, materials for electrode modification and enhance-24 ment of co-reaction in ECL sensors have enabled sensitive monitoring of some most common con-25 taminants of emerging concern such as heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, pharmaceuticals, 26 industrial chemicals and cyanotoxins. Moreover, we provide future trends and prospects associated 27 with ECL MOF-composites for environmental sensing.

AB - Transition metal oxides (TMOs) are promising materials because of their specific properties enabling their application in energy solutions, such as their pseudocapacitive behavior enabling utilization as electrode materials in supercapacitors. Activated carbon is a material well known as an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC). Bringing together the two different capacitor materials- TMOs as pseudocapacitors and carbon materials as EDL capacitors is the goal for generating future generation supercapacitors. Nickel manganite is a material of interest because of various oxidation states of manganese which provide its reactivity in oxidoreduction reactions, enhancing the pseudocapacitive behavior. Herein, we synthesized nano-sized nickel manganite by a sol-gel combustion synthesis process using glycine as fuel and subsequent calcination process. The structure and morphology of synthesized material was investigated via XRD, FESEM, and FTIR spectroscopy. Specific surface area and was determined from measured nitrogen desorption/desorption isotherms. Activated carbon was obtained by pyrolytic carbonization of alginate hydrogel in nitrogen atmosphere and activation with KOH. The material was combined with synthesized NiMn2O4 nanopowder and tested as supercapacitor electrode. The second alternative was incorporating NiMn2O4 powder into alginate hydrogel, followed by pyrolysis in nitrogen atmosphere to obtain a NiMn2O4 -activatedcarbon composite. The obtained materials were electrochemically characterized with cyclic voltammetry (LV) and galvanostatic chronopotentiometry to get galvanostatic charge-discharge curves. We calculated high specific capacitance values ranging to several hundred F/g, showing our hybrid material is a promising electrode in a supercapacitor system.

AB - Iron manganite (FeMnO3) powder with a cubic (bixbyite,
−
Ia3) crystal structure was obtained by a solid state
reaction. Thick film paste (powder+organic vehicles) was screen printed on alumina substrate with test interdigitated
PdAg electrodes. Significant porosity (60.6%) composed of macropores (larger than 100 nm) was
determined by Hg porosimetry, changing only slightly from the first extrusion run indicating a stable pore
system. Hg porosimetry evaluation of thick film samples enabled estimation of true textural parameters of the
thick film compared to powder. Impedance response of the thick film sensor was monitored in a humidity
chamber in the relative humidity (RH) range 30–90%, at room temperature (25 °C) and frequency range from
42 Hz to 1 MHz. At 100 Hz the impedance reduced from 10.41 MΩ for RH 30% to 0.68 MΩ for RH 90%. Analysis
of complex impedance using an equivalent circuit showed the dominant influence of grain boundaries. The
sensor response and recovery was fast (several seconds) and a relatively low hysteresis value of 2.8% was
obtained.

AB - Nanocrystalline iron manganite powder was synthesized using the sol–gel combustion process, with
glycine as fuel. It was further calcined at 900 C for 8 h, resulting in the formation of a loose cubic
FeMnO3 powder with a small specific surface area, net-like structure and plate-like particles as
confirmed by XRD, N2 physisorption, FESEM and TEM analyses. The metal ion release was studied by
ICP-OES and showed that less than 10 ppb of Fe or Mn ions were released by leaching in water, but
0.36 ppm Fe and 3.69 ppm Mn was found in LB (Luria–Bertani) bacterial medium. The generation of
reactive oxygen species (ROS) was monitored in distilled water and bacterial medium and showed that
FeMnO3 particles do not generate O2c
ions with or without UV irradiation, but synthesize H2O2 and
show an antioxidative effect. Besides the higher stability of FeMnO3 particles in aqueous solution they
showed an inhibitory effect on Bacillus subtilis growth in LB medium even at low concentrations
(0.01 mg ml 1), but not in BHI medium even at 1 mg ml 1. This study points out that the mechanism of
antibacterial action of engineered metal oxides needs continued investigation and specific experimental
controls

AB - Zinc ferrite nanocrystalline powder was obtained by solid state synthesis of starting zinc oxide and hematite nanopowders. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the formation of nanocrystalline zinc‐ferrite powder with a mixed spinel structure with small amounts of remaining zinc oxide and hematite as impurities. Thick film paste was formed and screen printed on test interdigitated PdAg electrodes on alumina substrate. Formation of a porous nanocrystalline structure was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Hg porosimetry. Humidity sensing properties of zinc ferrite thick films were investigated by monitoring the change in impedance in the relative humidity interval 30‐90% in the frequency range 42 Hz – 1 MHz at room temperature (25 °C) and 50 °C. At 42 Hz at both analyzed temperatures the impedance reduced ~ 46 times in the humidity range 30‐90%. The dominant influence of grain boundaries was confirmed by analysis of complex impedance with an equivalent circuit.

AB - Pseudobrookite based nanopowder was obtained by solid state synthesis of starting hematite and anatase nanopowders in the weight ratio 55:45. Structural and morphological properties were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), BET, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectroscopy, UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirming the formation of nanocrystalline pseudobrookite. The obtained powder was mixed with a binder (ethyl cellulose), dispersant (α-terpinol) and adhesion agents (acetic acid and distilled water) to obtain a thick film paste. It was screen printed on alumina substrate with interdigitated PdAg electrodes and fired at 600 °C for 30 min. Formation of a porous nanocrystalline thick film structure was shown using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while Hall measurements enabled determination of carrier mobility. Change of impedance response in the frequency range 42 Hz–1 MHz with humidity was analyzed at room temperature (25 °C) and 50 °C in the relative humidity range 30–90% and 40–90%, respectively. At 42 Hz, and room temperature the impedance reduced ∼28 times, while at 50 °C it reduced ∼147 times in the relative humidity range 40–90%. The sensor showed rapid response (16 s) and relatively low hysteresis (8.39% at 25 °C and 2.64% at 50 °C) showing that this is a promising material for application in humidity sensing.

AB - During the compaction of the powder mixture of ZnO and Mn2O3 (MnCO3) and Fe2O3 compacts were find fragile for further handling. Poly vinyl alcohol PVA was used as a binder in an unusual 20% PVA content. We made as well 2% PVA with 0.6% Poly ethylene glycol PEG and 20% PVA with 6 % PEG. Binder was wrapped over the powder by suspension forming in the polymer water solution and drying afterwards until all water content evaporates. On the these obtained powders employed characterization techniques were: Fourier transformed Infra red FTIR spectra with ATR attenuated total reflection technique as well as differential thermal analysis DTA on the device with low temperature sensitivity and TEM transmition electron microscopy. All binder concentrations gave compacts with good mechanical properties, that can be handled with ease but with adding, a PEG as plasticizer the operating of the anvil and piston were extremely difficult due to friction.

AB - Monophosphate bronze (PW8O26, WPB) was synthesized by low-temperature (650 °C) heating of 12-tungstophosphoric acid (WPA). Its lithiated derivative with a low lithium content (Li3-WPB) was synthesized by heating lithium salt of WPA at 650 °C. Its lithiated derivative with a high lithium content was synthesized by mechanochemical lithiation of Li3WPB (Li n -WPB) (n > 3), followed by heat treatment at 650 °C. X-ray powder diffraction analysis confirmed that the bronze structure changed with the increase of the incorporated lithium content. These bronzes were investigated from the aspect of lithiation/delithiation kinetics in an aqueous saturated LiNO3 electrolyte solution. By cyclic voltammetry, both the kinetics of intercalation/deintercalation and the coulombic capacity were found to decrease with the increase of initial lithium content, in agreement with literature data for electrochemically lithiated tungstophosphate bronzes. Monoclinic lithium-free bronze PW8O26, as the most promising material, was subjected to a further detailed galvanostatic investigation coupled with the LiFe0.95V0.05PO4/C composite as a cathode material in an aqueous battery. In comparison to its behavior in an organic electrolyte, a considerably lower initial capacity of the bronze electrode was measured. However, its cyclic stability was much better in an aqueous than in an organic electrolyte.

AB - Metastabile nanopowder ZnTiO3 pressed into cylindrical compacts at 200 MPa was submitted to conventional heating with isothermal holding at 931oC for 10 minutes, 25 minutes and 40 minutes. Same compacts were heated with two-step sintering schedule with maximal 912oC and isothermal holding at 896oC, for approximately the same holding times as with isothermal. Shrinkage during heating was monitored with dilatometric device, while microstructure was determined with atomic force microscopy. XRD patterns were collected for the most prominent samples. Sintered specimens microstructure showed differences introduced during last sintering stage by two heating schedules.

AB - Nanopowder density, as well as compact density, is due to powder particle size, different in their values, compared to micron powders. Also, the technique used for density determination induces large mutual value discrepancies. Scanning electron micrographs of as received powder are presented as an illustration of the shape and size of powder particles and agglomerates. The density of the loose powder pretreated differently was determined using mercury porosimetry and He pycnometry. The methods used for determining the apparent density of the compacts were pycnometry with water as the wetting liquid, mercury porosimetry and also a new approach using a combination of mercury pycnometry along with nitrogen adsorption. Bulk densities of compacts were determined by dimension measurement and mercury pycnometry. Conclusions about nanopowder usage as a charge for dry compaction as well as the most appropriate way for the determination of compact and powder densities are shown.

AB - ZnTiO3 nanopowder as a constitutive component in compact production was primarily characterized. Scanning electron micrographs of as received powder were recorded. Mercury porosimetry and nitrogen adsorption were also performed on loose powder. Particle size distribution in a water powder suspension was determined with a laser particle size analyser. Compaction was performed on different pressures in a range from 100 to 400 MPa using the uniaxial double sided compaction technique without binder and lubricant. Micrographs of compacted specimens were obtained using scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Pore size distribution was also determined by mercury porosimetry and nitrogen adsorption. Results revealed that with increasing pressure during compaction interagglomerate pores diminish in size until they reach some critical diameter related to the intra-agglomerate pore size.

AB - Single crystal samples of PbTe doped with PbI2 were made using the Bridgman technique. Far infrared reflectivity diagrams of PbTe doped with 0.4 at% and 0.6 at% Iodine were measured and numerically analyzed. A plasma resonance at about 650 cm(-1) with the reflectivity minima very close to zero was observed for both samples. Thermal diffusivity was determined for the same samples using the photoacoustic method with a transmission detection configuration and the values of the minority free carrier (holes) mobility were calculated.

AB - PbTe single crystals, doped with B, were grown using the Bridgman method. Far infrared spectra were measured in the temperature range between 10 K and room temperature. The experimental spectra were numerically analyzed, and optical parameters were calculated. Local impurity modes of boron were observed at about 150 and 240 cm(-1). For all samples, after FIR measurements, the content of boron was measured using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. Optical mobility of free carriers was calculated and it was the highest for the sample with only 0.014 at.% of boron in PbTe. A negative photoconductivity effect at 130 K for PbTe + B was also observed.

abstract = "PbTe single crystals, doped with B, were grown using the Bridgman method. A negative photoconductivity effect at 130 K for PbTe + B was also observed.",

AB - Multipolar anisotropy was induced in strontium hexaferrite green samples in a high intensity magnetic field during feedstock injection by PIM (powder injection molding) technology. Strontium hexaferrite particles in the melted feedstock were multipolarly aligned into four semi-circular paths that were circularly closed through a multipolar electromagnet. After debinding (with acetone and thermally) and sintering (optimized to obtain maximal values of the (BH)max product), samples were multipolarly magnetized again to form four poles on the outer surface of the sample. Multipolar anisotropy of the samples was observed and analyzed in detail by SEM and AFM (crystalline alignment) and by MFM (magnetical alignment).

AB - Powder mixtures of zinc oxide and tin oxide in the molar ratio, ZnO:SnO2 = 2:1, were mechanically activated in a planetary ball mill in the time intervals of 0-160 min. The adsorption-desorption isotherms, specific surface area, pore volume and pore size distribution spectra of mechanically activated powder mixtures were established by N2 adsorption at 77 K. Microstructure analysis was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and digital pattern recognition (DPR) microstructure quantity analysis. The phase composition of the mixed powders was determined by X-ray analysis. Mechanochemical activation of the ZnO-SnO2 system resulted in fine grinding of the starting particles and generation of contacts between them, mass transfer at contacts zones and formation of Zn2SnO4 spinel, which was observed after 40 min of activation.

AB - Room temperature far infrared reflectivity spectra of single phase spinel zinc-stannate thin films, prepared by rf magnetron sputtering on a glass substrate, and bulk sintered samples were measured. The sintered samples were obtained by mechanical activation of starting ZnO and SnO2 powders for 10 min followed by sintering at 1300 °C for 2 h. The reflectivity diagrams obtained for bulk samples were numerically analyzed using the four-parameter model of coupled oscillators. The optical parameters were determined for six observed ionic oscillators belonging to the spinel structure and two additional oscillators originating from the sintering procedure resulting from pores and grain boundaries. The reflectivity diagrams obtained for thin film samples were analyzed using the four-parameter model for optical phonons with a standard optical multi-layer technique.

AB - Far infrared reflection spectra of NiO polycrystals sintered at 1100 °C for various times (30–240 min) were measured at room temperature using a FTIR Spectrometer—Brucker 113V. The measured spectra depended on the sintering time due to differences in the microstructural morphology of the material and were compared with the NiO single crystal reflectivity diagram. Numerical analyses of the experimental spectra were performed using Kramers-Kronig analysis, a four-parameter model of coupled oscillators and the effective medium modeling theory. In the three-component effective medium model based on Bruggeman's theory we assumed the presence of pores, intergranular material and crystalline grains. The intergranular material and crystalline grains were defined as single and coupled ionic oscillators.

AB - Single crystal samples of lead telluride doped with cerium were made using the Bridgman method. Far infrared reflectivity spectra in the temperature range from 10 to 300 K are presented. The experimental data were numerically analyzed using a fitting procedure based on the plasmon–phonon interaction model and optical parameters were determined. Two additional local modes were observed at about 138 and 337 cm−1. The origin of these local vibrational impurity modes was discussed.

AB - Far-infrared reflection spectra of sintered α-MnSe were measured at room temperature. The measured spectrum had one pronounced peak in accordance with literature data and group theory estimation and one smaller peak resulting from the applied sintering procedure. The measured reflection spectrum was analyzed using Kramers–Kronig analysis and a three-component effective medium model based on Bruggeman's theory assuming the presence of a small amount of pores, dominant crystalline grains and intergranular material. In the model the crystalline grains were modeled as a single oscillator appropriate to the single crystal and the intergranular material was also defined as a single ionic oscillator.
