AB - Influence of annealing temperature on beta-(Al3Mg2) phase precipitation and corrosion properties of sensitised Al-6.8wt% Mg alloy is investigated. Sensitisation of specimens annealed at 320 degrees C results in IGC and SCC susceptibility. Microstructural characterization shows fine precipitation of Mg-rich phase forming nearly continuous film at grain boundaries, despite small precipitated fraction (0.5%), and grain boundary faceting. Sensitised specimens annealed at 265 degrees C are IGC susceptible, but SCC resistant. Precipitation at grain boundaries is discrete, although the precipitated fraction is greater (3%) than in specimens annealed at 320 degrees C. Potentiodynamic measurements show that of all measured parameters, charge density is in the strongest correlation with the NAMLT and SSRT results.

AB - In this paper gas sensing performance of IHTM thermopile-based MEMS sensors is studied both theoretically and experimentally. The sensor has already been proven to be a multipurpose device and this work explores possibilities of broadening of its field of application towards gas sensing. Simulation data are given for the study of gas type and binary gas mixture composition detection. Experimental results considering air and helium detection are in good agreement with theoretical predictions.

AB - Step-like structures oriented along LT 110 > or LT 110 > directions on {100} oriented Si substrates are first etched with mask following maskless etching in 30 wt. % KOH solution in water at 80 degrees C. The step structures investigated by maskless etching are convex prismatic edges bounded by {100} and {111} planes for LT 110 > oriented steps or only {100} planes for LT 110 > oriented steps. Experimental results are used to verify the nature of {hkl} cutting planes that are developed at the convex corners of the steps during maskless anisotropic etching. From analytical relations and experimental results, the ratio between the etching rates for the {hkl} (fast-etching plane at the edge step) and {100} planes is found for both step orientations.

AB - The use of enzymes may improve the functional properties of various food ingredients. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of proteolytic contaminants in phenol oxidases on β-lactoglobulin (BLG). In the presence of Trametes versicolor laccase and Agaricus bisporus tyrosinase, both variants of BLG (A and B) underwent removal of a peptide from the N-terminus. The truncated forms were more susceptible to digestion by pepsin. The truncation of BLG resulted from contaminating proteases and not due to the action of phenol oxidases. The removal of N-terminal peptides proceeded quickly, while the rest of the globular protein remained resistant to proteolysis for up to 3 h. In the case of the application of enzymes in food bioprocessing, it may be important to carefully monitor the effects of contaminating proteases in enzyme preparations used.
