Experimental and Numerical Methods for Concept Design and Flow Transition Prediction on the Example of the Bionic High-speed Train

AB  - In the times of significant development of high-speed train transportation and taking the primacy over the others. One of the major designing task is to predict accurately and fast the vehicle main performances, especially aerodinamics. Motivated by the bionic design of representative Japans train Shinkansen, the presented bionic design was based on the observations of the kingfisher from Serbian national heritage collection. The specimen beak shape has been measured by laser scanning, and converted to a mesh. Afterward, the longitudinal cross-section of the beak was implemented to a bionic high-speed train design. As the critical, the conditions of the trains forehead entering into the tunnel were selected, while the case scheme employed relative motion. The forehead contour distributions, obtained with computational fluid dynamics, were used for the prediction of the transition zone extension. The anomalies in surface temperature behavior were additionaly analyzed by pressure and density distribution inside the tunnel and over the forehead. Besides the gross time history of the pressure derivative of time is in correspondance with the referent, it was interpreted that the true biological form is not fully suitable for adoption for bionic design. The development of this design, employing contour simplification by the close parabolic function will continue in the future. This work suggests an ecconomic and efficient approach to analyze the results of the Reynolds-Averaged navier-Stokes equation adeqate for the concept design stage.

Multi-disciplinary Shape Optimization of Missile Fin Configuration Subject to Aerodynamic Heating

AB  - The main goal of this paper is to expand previously conducted study and consequently to upgrade the proposed multimodular numerical framework developed for fluid–structure interaction simulation (FSI) and multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) purposes, in a manner that thermal–structure interaction is observed and implemented into the established numerical framework. The upgraded and considerably improved algorithm was used for MDO of the short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) model. Because of its high-speed regimes, this aircraft model was selected for the purpose of numerical modeling and optimization of aerodynamically heated structure. The present study is concerned with a broader observation of critical multipoint flight conditions and represents a more realistic scenario, which indicates this study as one contribution more in a scope of fluid–thermal–structure interaction (FTSI) numerical modeling and optimization. With respect to predefined objectives and constraints, multidisciplinary shape optimization of the fin structure resulted in overall improvement of the missile initial performances. Also, aerothermally induced critical responses of the fin structure were prevented. Numerical modeling of FSI/FTSI and MDO within an industry-accepted design tool resulted in powerful monolithic environment, which, with adopted multipoint regimes and multicriteria settings, was used for aerodynamic–thermal/structural optimization. The obtained results were compared with the results from the previous study conducted without thermal effects.

The Influence of Air Traffic on Climate Change

AB  - Growth in the aviation sector has brought great benefits, but
also an increased impact on the environment. Air transport has a significant
impact on climate change, even to the extent that global climate change
dictates the limitations of its development and the areas in which aviation
needs to adapt its land and flight operations. The main pollutants emitted by
aircraft are carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides
(SOx), non-flammable hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO),
particulate matter (PM) and soot. Some of the key ways to mitigate the
environmental impact of aviation are the development of new aircraft
technologies and the inclusion of advanced design, the development of
alternative fuels for use in aviation, the collection of airport taxes related to
environmental protection, which encourages airlines to use quieter aircraft
with lower emissions. The introduction of operational measures, in the form
of changes in operating procedures, have proven to be very effective in
reducing emissions. In addition to minimizing the amount of fuel for service
and performance of each flight, in addition to the environmental benefits, they
also reduce fuel costs. These changes do not require the introduction of new
equipment and expensive technologies, but are based on different ways of
operating aircrafts that are already in use.

Buka generisana vazdušnim saobraćajem

AB  - Rast u vazduhoplovnom sektoru od 1950-ih donio je velike koristi, ali  je zabrinutost zbog povezanih uticaja na životnu sredinu sve veća. Buka generisana vazdušnim saobraćajem je postala jedan od osnovnih ekoloških problema i jedan od ograničavajućih faktora razvoja aerodroma. Upravo iz ovog razloga, ICAO je definisala "Uravnotežen  pristup"  upravljanju  bukom  u  okolini  aerodroma,  koji  obuhvata  smanjenje  buke  na  izvoru, planiranje i upravljanje korišćenjem zemljišta, operativne procedure za smanjenje buke i operativne restrikcije. Ovaj  pristup  preporučuje  da  se  uvedu  mere  za  smanjenje  buke  koje  treba  da  teže  kombinaciji  različitih rešenja,  što  će  aerodromima  omogućiti  zadovoljenje  sve  oštrijih  međunarodnih  propisa  i  njihov  dalji  razvoj. Razvoj novih tehnologija letelica i njeno uključivanje u napredne dizajne koji su čistiji i tiši, jedan je od ključnih načina za ublažavanje uticaja iz vazduhoplovstva na životnu sredinu.

Noise generated by air traffic has become one of the basic environmental problems and one of the limiting factors of airport development. It is for this reason that ICAO has defined a “Balanced Approach” to noise management in the vicinity of the airport, which includes source noise reduction, land use planning and management, operational noise reduction procedures and operationalrestrictions. This approach recommends the introducing of noise reduction measures that should strive to a combination of different solutions, which will enable for airports to meet increasingly stringing international regulations and their further development. The development of new aircraft technologies and its incorporation into advanced designs that are cleaner and quieter is one of the key ways to mitigate the environmental impact of aviation.

AB  - Air pollution in recent times become important, so that the need for protection from air pollution, ensuring the quality of life in rural areas and industrial centers, and the preservation of the ecological potential of the natural environment, it becomes one of the imperatives of development. The major sources of atmospheric pollution are combustion of fossil fuels in industry and power generation, as well as in internal combustion engines. Scientific approach to solving this problem uses different experimental, theoretical and numerical methods. This paper presents the results of simulations of pollution emitted from the stack Kostolac B, CFD method above Viminacijum museums. This archaeological site was selected because of its excellence. Used the software package Fluent for flow simulation. Wind direction was chosen to wind rose, which was obtained from the Meteorological Department. Application of CFD numerical simulation method is intended to demonstrate the advantages of the method presented in solving the acute problems of environmental pollution in the fastest, most efficient and most economical way, whether pollution comes from point sources, diffuse and mobile sources.
AB  - Zagađenje vazduha u novije vreme poprima značajne razmere, tako da potreba zaštite vazduha od zagađenja, obezbeđenje kvaliteta života u naseljima i industrijskim centrima i očuvanje ekološkog potencijala prirodne sredine, postaje jedan od imperativa razvoja. Najveći izvori zagađenja atmosfere su sagorevanje fosilnih goriva u industriji i u proizvodnji električne energije, kao i u motorima sa unutrašnjim sagorevanjem. Naučni pristup rešavanja ovog problema koristi različite eksperimentalne, teoretske i numeričke metode. U ovom radu predstavljeni su rezultati simulacije širenja zagađenja emitovanih iz dimnjaka termoelektrane Kostolac B, CFD metodom, iznad muzeja Viminacijum. Ovo arheološko nalazište je izabrano zbog svoje izuzetnosti. Za simulaciju strujanja korišćen je softverski paket Fluent. Smer vetra je izabran prema ruži vetrova, koja je dobijena od meteorološke službe. Primena CFD metoda numeričke simulacije strujanja ima za cilj da demonstrira prednosti koje ove metode daju u rešavanju akutnih problema zagađenja životne sredine na najbrži, najefikasniji i najekonomičniji način, bilo da zagađenje potiče iz tačkastih, difuznih ili pokretnih izvora.

AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati delovanja laserske svetlosti, talasne dužine λ = 694,3 nm (rubinski laser, Q-switch mod), na uzorke od bakra i aluminijuma. Cilj ispitivanja je bio da se odrede maksimalne gustine energije laserskog snopa koje mogu da se koriste u dijagnostičke svrhe (interferometrijska snimanja, lasersko skeniranje, itd), kao i u uklanjanju depozita, a da pri tome snop ne stupa u interakciju sa osnovnim materijalom. Odabrani uzorci od bakra i aluminijuma bili su dugi niz godina izloženi atmosferskim uticajima. Rezultati delovanja laserske svetlosti ispitivani su skenirajućim elektronskim mikroskopom. Istraživanja su pokazala da je bezbedna granica
gustine energije rubinskog lasera za dijagnostičke metode za oba metalna uzorka do 20×103 J/m2.
AB  - Nondestructive methods are dominant in diagnosing the status and
protection of all kinds of contemporary industrial objects, as well as objects
of industrial heritage. Laser methods open wide possibilities of research
in the field of diagnosis and metal processing. This paper presents
the results of laser radiation interaction (wavelength λ = 694.3 nm, Ruby
laser, Q-switch mode) with metal samples covered with a deposit. The
goal of the examination was to determine the maximum energy density of
the ruby laser beam, that can be used in diagnostics purposes (interferometric
methods; 3D scanning) and as a tool for safe removal of deposits,
without interacting with the basic material. Microscopic examination performed
with SEM coupled with EDX allowed the determination of the safe
laser light energy density levels, which caused the removal of the deposite
from the surface of the sample, without degradation of the surface. The
energy density up to 20 kJ/m2 is the maximum allowed for diagnosis or
deposit removal.

AB  - Copper and aluminum are materials that have technological, functional
and expressive value in the contemporary art and architecture. Therefore, studying the possibilities
of protection of these materials by using non-destructive method is of great importance
when it comes to cultural heritage. The paper presents the results of interactions of laser
light with wavelength λ = 694.3nm (Ruby laser, Q-switch mode) and metal samples, covered
with a deposit. The goal of investigation was to determine the maximum energy density
of the laser beam which can be used to remove deposit and does not interact with the
basic material at the same time. The effects of laser interaction are investigated by SEM
and EDX.
AB  - U savremenoj umetnosti i arhitekturi bakar i aluminijum su materijali koji imaju tehnološku, funkcionalnu i ekspresivnu vrednost. Zbog toga je u oblasti kulturne baštine od velikog značaja proučavanje mogućnosti zaštite ovih materijala nedestruktivnim metodama. U radu su prikazani rezultati delovanja laserske svetlosti talasne dužine λ=694.3 nm (rubinski laser, Q – switch mod) na
uzorke prekrivene depozitom. Cilj ispitivanja je bio da se odrede maksimalne gustine energije laserskog snopa koje sklanjaju depozit, a ne stupaju u interakciju sa osnovnim materijalom.
