AB - Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are among the most toxic compounds knownto man. Several PAHs are proven to be carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic. Due to their widedistribution in the environment and their toxicity, it is considered important to monitor the levels ofthese compounds in foodstuff. PAHs have been detected in many foods including plant-based suchas vegetable oils, cereal grains, herbs, spices, teas and supplements. As the awareness for thehealthy lifestyle has increased globally, the intake of medicinal herbs as tea and spices has alsogrown immensely. Therefore, even stronger emphasis must be made to monitor the toxic levels ofPAHs in herbs. The legislations of the maximum concentrations of certain contaminants in food ofthe Republic of Serbia included PAHs values in dry herbs only by the end of 2019 (Official GazetteRS, No. 81/2019) in comparison to European Commission Regulation dating from 2011. Therefore, herein we focused on analytical method development for PAHs determination in medicinal herbs.

AB - Urban lakes sediments unfortunately have received a large amount of wastewater containing various contaminants such as heavy metals (HMs). Heavy metals in urban lake sediments mainly originate from industrial discharge, heating sources, traffic emissions and waste from municipal activities. The human health and the whole ecosystems are threatened with potential harmful effects of following metal pollutants As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn, due to their persistence, non-degradability, inherent toxicity, and bioaccumulation1. Therefore, the analysis of lake sediments is a useful and important approach to characterize environmental pollution in aquatic ecosystems. Due to the diverse environmental conditions and sources of HMs, different pollution indices are used to assess the anthropogenic impact of PTEs in sediment samples2,3. In this study, ecological risk assessment of the urban shallow lake sediments in Central Serbia by HMs was analyzed by calculating single and multi- pollution indices and using multivariate techniques to reveal the associated adverse effects of the investigated contaminants.

AB - Modern lifestyle has increased our utilization of pollutants such as heavy metals, aromatic 17 compounds, and contaminants of rising concern involving pharmaceutical and personal products 18 and other materials that may have an important environmental impact. Especially, the ultimate re-19 sults of intense use of highly stable materials, such as heavy metals and chemical restudies are that 20 they turn into waste materials which, when discharged, accumulate in the environment water bod-21 ies. In this context, the present review presents application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in 22 electrochemiluminescent (ECL) sensing for water pollutant detection. MOF composites applied as 23 innovative luminophore or luminophore carriers, materials for electrode modification and enhance-24 ment of co-reaction in ECL sensors have enabled sensitive monitoring of some most common con-25 taminants of emerging concern such as heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, pharmaceuticals, 26 industrial chemicals and cyanotoxins. Moreover, we provide future trends and prospects associated 27 with ECL MOF-composites for environmental sensing.

AB - The removal of highly toxic gasses such as SO2 and H2S is important in various industrial and environmental applications. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising candidates for the capture of toxic gases owing to their favorable properties such as high selectivity, moisture stability, thermostability, acid gas resistance, high sorption capacity, and low-cost regenerability. In this study, we perform first principles density functional theory (DFT) and grand-canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations to investigate the capture of highly toxic gases, SO2 and H2S, by the recently designed ZTF and MAF-66 MOFs. Our results indicate that ZTF and MAF-66 show good adsorption performances for SO2 and H2S capture. The nature of the interactions between H2S or SO2 and the pore surface cavities was examined at the microscopic level. SO2 is adsorbed on the pore surface through two types of hydrogen bonds, either between O of SO2 with the closest H of the triazole 5-membred ring or between O of SO2 with the hydrogen of the amino group. For H2S inside the pores, the principal interactions between H2S and surface pores are due to a relatively strong hydrogen bonds established between the nitrogens of the organic part of MOFs and H2S. Also, we found that these interactions depend on the orientation of SO2/H2S inside the pores. Moreover, we have studied the influence of the presence of water and CO2 on H2S and SO2 capture by the ZTF MOF. The present GCMC simulations reveal that the addition of H2O molecules at low pressure leads to an enhancement of the H2S adsorption, in agreement with experimental findings. However, the presence of water molecules decreases the adsorption of SO2 irrespective of the pressure used. Besides, SO2 adsorption is increased in the presence of a small number of CO2 molecules, whereas the presence of carbon dioxide in ZTF pores has an unfavorable effect on the capture of H2S.

AB - The term bottled water applies for water packaged in a health-correct packaging available in the market for
human consumption. Consumers still have insufficient knowledge of the importance of certain water
ingredients and their harmful or beneficial effect on the human organism. There is not enough expert
information about the harmfulness of certain ingredients in the water, even if many countries of the world have
adopted legal acts in which quality parameters of bottled water are standardized1. In such declared water,
physiological characteristics of water, redox status and the consequences of bad health effects are neglected
due to excessive consumption of waters with high mineral content. Due to the increased content of mineral
substances and high sodium intake, the allowed daily intake should be declared for water loaded with mineral
substances. The oxide-reduction potential of water, EROX, represents the mixed potential of all present redox
pairs and directly affects the behavior of water relative to the agents with it comes into contact. In this research,
we measured all parameters that define redox status: pH value, redox potential and rH2 factor in a wide range
of bottled waters available on the market of the Republic of Serbia. The substances that are declared as
potentially toxics2 were detected by HPLC-MS/MS. The results pointed to the necessity of a detailed
declaration of bottled water to decrease the possible consequences of bad effects on health due to excessive
consumption of water rich with minerals.

potentially toxics2 were detected by HPLC-MS/MS. The results pointed to the necessity of a detailed
declaration of bottled water to decrease the possible consequences of bad effects on health due to excessive
consumption of water rich with minerals.",

AB - Bipolar electrochemistry (BPE) is an unconventional method to address conducting and semiconducting
particles in a wireless manner1. Unique features of BPE when compared to conventional electrochemical setup
where electrochemical reactions take place at the surface of two different electrodes both connected to a
potentiostat, allow us to address bipolar electrode electrochemically in a wireless fashion because there is no
direct connection with the power supply (see Figure 1.). Herein, we used the concept of BPE for the
electrochemical remediation of cyanotoxins following the formed products by HPLC-MS/MS. Due to the high
toxicity of cyanotoxins presenting potential global health problem, highly efficient remediation methods have
been under development in recent years, with advanced oxidation processes focused on mineralization as major
target. Electrochemical remediation arose as an interesting alternative with few reported protocols to date.

AB - In the research phase of the geological status of the area of southeastern Banat, samples were collected from surface waters, wells, and lakes. The content of U, Ra, Rn is determined in water. The sampling network was adjusted to the hydrographic characteristics of the terrain, and a hydrogeochemical map has been made at a scale of 1:50 000. In addition to hydrogeochemical prospecting, samples of the soil river sediments were taken to determine the profile of the coast of the following lakes: Vračarevo, Šaransko, Bagersko and Veliko lake. The regional hydrogeochemical prospecting included the area of the Bela Crkva, which drained the sediments of Negotin and Kvartara. In this area and wider, in accordance with the results of regional investigation, semi-geological and semi-geochemical research was carried out to identify resources of mineral deposits as well as the sources for water supply of rural settlements. During research, samples of water from surface streams, sources, wells, lakes, water reservoirs, creek sediments and wall samples were collected and examined.

AB - The term bottled water refers to the water that is packaged in a health-correct packaging and that is available on the market for
human consumption. Consumers still have insufficient knowledge of the importance of certain ingredients and their harmful or
beneficial effects on the human body. Nowdays there are many legal acts in the world that regulate the quality of bottled water. In
order to assess the impact of packaging quality on the quality of bottled water, it is necessary to look at the regulation, both in the
field of water and in the field of packaging polymer. The information provided on the declaration is insufficient to see the quality of
the bottled water itself, and there is no indication of the potential toxic elements that can migrate from the packaging into the water.
Although PET is considered as inert material according certain components that are added to PET production can migrate in the
water, that must be regurarly controlled. Declarations of such products must follow the updating and monitoring of potentially toxic
parameters in accordance with European and world regulations. The impact of packaging, transport and storage on the change of
bottled water quality from the aspect of potentially toxic substances has been shown in many studies in the world, however, studies
of this type are rare in our country.

AB - The term bottled water means water packed in a health-correct packaging and available
in the market for human consumption. Consumers still have insufficient knowledge of
importance of the certain ingredients and their harmful or beneficial effect on the human
organism. There is not enough expert information about the harmfulness of certain
ingredients in the water, but many countries in the world have adopted legal regulations
in which quality parameters of bottled water are standardized (EEC, WHO1, EPA,
IBWA, FDA). The race for profit and the lack of necessary quantities of bottled waters
moved declarations in to the second plan. The declaration on bottled waters should
describe also the physiological characteristics, since the consumption of high-mineral
water may lead to adverse effects on the health of consumers, primarily children. In such
declared water, missing physiological characteristics of water, redox statuses, and
possible consequences on the health, are neglected due to excessive consumption of
waters with high mineral content. Due to the increased content of mineral substances
and high sodium intake, the allowed daily intake should be declared for water loaded
with mineral substances. Redox status of water represents a health factor and it is
completely defined by the pH value, redox potential and rH2 factor, parameters which
were the subject of this study in this work. The oxide-reduction potential of water, EROX,
represents the mixed potential of all present redox pairs and directly affects the behavior
of water relative to the agents to which comes into contact2. The results pointed to the
necessity of a fuller declaration of bottled water, because in that case bottled water
gained in importance and would decrease the consequences of the possible bad effects
on health due to excessive consumption of water rich with minerals. Test results
demonstrated that our market has a wide range of bottled waters, and that the health
aspect can be estimated through the oxidation-reduction properties.

AB - Bipolar electrochemistry (BPE) is an unconventional method to address conducting and
semiconducting particles in a wireless manner. Unique features of BPE when compared
to conventional electrochemical setup where electrochemical reactions take place at the
surface of two different electrodes both connected to a potentiostat, allow us to address
bipolar electrode electrochemically in a wireless fashion because there is no direct
connection with the power supply (see Figure 1.). Herein, we used the concept of BPE
as a straightforward way for the site selective deposition of materials on bipolar
electrodes. Furthermore, we use these materials for the electrochemical remediation of
cyanotoxins, a potential global health problem, exploiting the versatility of bipolar
electrochemistry. Due to the high toxicity of cyanotoxins, highly efficient remediation
methods have been under development in recent years, with advanced oxidation

abstract = "Bipolar electrochemistry (BPE) is an unconventional method to address conducting and
semiconducting particles in a wireless manner.
Due to the high toxicity of cyanotoxins, highly efficient remediation
methods have been under development in recent years, with advanced oxidation
processes focused on mineralization as major target. Electrochemical remediation arose

AB - Energy is the main driver of economic growth and it is of vital significance for the modern socieity survival. Future economic growth is dependent of the long-term availability of energy from the sustainable and ecologicaly accepted sources. Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a new approach to the wastewater treatment with the simulntanious energy production. MFC is an electrochemical device that uses bacteria to generate electricity from biodegradation of organic substrates. Bacteria obtain the energy required for metabolism by electron transfer from an electron donor, such as glucose or acetate, to an electron acceptor, such as oxygen. The application of a microbial fuel cell for the treatment of wastewater has many advantages: the process is clean, safe noise-free, the emissions are low, and the efficiency is high with direct energy production. The subject of this review paper is a detailed development of microbial fuel cells, working principle, types of used microorganisms, as well as potential application.
Prednosti korišćenja mikrobne gorinve ćelije u prečišćavanju otpadnih voda su sledeće: čist postupak, bezbedan i bez buke, niske emisije i visoka efikasnost uz direktnu proizvodnju energije.

AB - The explored area of Banat, located in NE Serbia, with its geological and geothermal characteristics, represents an area with extraordinary ecological potential. The geological structure of Banat is represented by various complexes of Neogene and Quaternary deposits. The Neogene sediments are mostly composed of sandstone, shale, marlstone, sand and gravel. Mesozoic igneous complex is represented by dacites, andesites and basalts. During Quaternary a relatively thick succession of genetically different types of sediments was deposited. Pleistocene and Holocene aeolian sand and loess and fluvial sandy-clayey alevrites, clays, sands and gravel cover the large area. Thickness and lithological composition of crust and lithosphere, as well as character, types and age of tectonic movements and magmatism decisively influence the content of radioactive elements (uranium, thorium and potassium) in the rocks. Nevertheless, the geothermal characteristics of a particular area are influenced in a significant extent by seismicity and hydrogeological properties. The small thickness of the crust and lithosphere, as a result of various geodynamic movements, during the lower and middle Miocene, classify the Pannonian Basin, and therefore the Banat area, among the most promising geothermal areas in Europe. The favorable geothermal characteristics of Banat also show high average values of geothermal gradient and terrestrial heat flux.

AB - Geochemical map of western and souther part of Serbia covers an area of about 30 000 km2 and also basins of rivers Ibar, Western Morava, Kolubara, Drina and Grand Morava. Representative samples from relevant profiles were collected according to WEGS (Western European Geochemical association). Samples were collected at the A-horizon at a depth of 15-20 cm from the ground surface; OB-overbank sediments at the depth of 80-100 cm and S-modern stream sediment. Geochemical mapping of lithological members was performed at 66 locations. The contents of natural radionuclides238 U,232 Th and40 K were analyzed. The results are shown on maps at a scale of 1: 1000000. Preserved geochemical record in the coastal profile of river flows will contribute to the assessment of anthropogenic impacts in the environment of rural settlements, particularly in the identification of geopathogenic zones of influence of natural radionuclides on human health. Research results have been shown on geochemical maps, diagrams and tables.

AB - In terms of development of agriculture, industry and tourism, in the spatial planning the level of exploration of mineral resources and environmental protection in rural areas is of great importance. The area of Vranje tertiary basin, located in the western part of the Serbian-Macedonian massif was selected. It spreads on both sides of the South Morava river, from Vladicin Han at the North, via Vranje and Ristovac to Bujanovac at the South. The total length of the basin is about 30 km and the width varies from 10 to 17 km. The area located west of the Vranje basin belongs to the granodiorite massif of Bujanovac and on the east to grandiorite and quartz diorite massif of Surdulica, in which the wolfram ore, occurrences and deposits of lead zinc, copper, iron, phosphorites and in the basin radioactive anomalies are registered. Geological and structural characteristics of the terrain are of the important for the planning of industrial facilities, further geochemical composition is essential for the planning and agriculture development. For the tourism development, from the point of use for therapeutic purposes, balneological characteristics of the hot water are of the important. The research results will be presented on geochemical maps, tables and charts, with special emphasis on Vranjska spa and its importance in the development of health tourism in the region.

cijanotoksina, metode njihove detekcije i metode uklanjanja.

AB - We report here the development of coreactant-based electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) as a surface-confined microscopy to image single cells and their membrane proteins. Labeling the entire cell membrane allows one to demonstrate that, by contrast with fluorescence, ECL emission is only detected from fluorophores located in the immediate vicinity of the electrode surface (i.e., 1–2 μm). Then, to present the potential diagnostic applications of our approach, we selected carbon nanotubes (CNT)-based inkjet-printed disposable electrodes for the direct ECL imaging of a labeled plasma receptor overexpressed on tumor cells. The ECL fluorophore was linked to an antibody and enabled to localize the ECL generation on the cancer cell membrane in close proximity to the electrode surface. Such a result is intrinsically associated with the unique ECL mechanism and is rationalized by considering the limited lifetimes of the electrogenerated coreactant radicals. The electrochemical stimulus used for luminescence generation does not suffer from background signals, such as the typical autofluorescence of biological samples. The presented surface-confined ECL microscopy should find promising applications in ultrasensitive single cell imaging assays.

AB - Electrogenerated chemiluminiscence (ECL) is a process which emits luminiscent signals byconverting electrochemical energy into radiative energy. It offers very sensitive detection ofsub-picomolar concentrations with an extremely large dynamic range, greater than six ordersof magnitude and almost zero background signal. The direct optical readout can be performedjust with a photomultiplier tube (PMT) or inexpensive CCD cameras and therefore, easilycombined with other technologies such as microfluidics and capillary electrophoresis to obtaincomplete detection systems. ECL detection is widely used in commercialized systems with anincreasing trend. The present thesis is aimed at studying the fundamental ECL process and atdeveloping new ECL systems for original bioanalytical applications.Chapter one is dedicated to the general principles of ECL. Two different pathways to generateECL, annihilation and co-reactant ECL, are explained in details. The most used ECLluminophores, based on ruthenium complexes, and co-reactants are also presented. In the lastpart of this chapter, the principal applications of ECL are briefly described. In the second chapter, the study of ECL mechanisms used in bead-based immunoassays andtheir influence on ECL emission were investigated. Spectroelectrochemistry and ECL imagingwas combined to observe the ECL generation from a single micro-bead, functionalized withruthenium complex with two efficient co-reactants, by mapping the ECL reactivity in space. This new imaging approach provides insights into the ECL mechanistic route operating in sucha commercialized bead-based bioassays and its extremely high sensitivity.Chapter 3 addresses the electrochemical properties of nanoelectrode ensembles and arrays(NEEs) with recent advances in bioelectroanalytical applications. The electrochemicalcharacteristic that makes the NEEs very useful in the development of chemical nanosensors isthe dramatic lowering of capacitive currents (that are the largest component of the noise, ormore properly the background signal of voltammetric measurements) allowing very sensitivedetection of analytes of interest. Exploiting both gold NEEs as a sensor platform and generationof ECL at low oxidation potentials, a new sensitive and specific ECL immunosensor fordiagnosis of celiac disease (CD) will be presented. In the last chapter, principles of bipolar electrochemistry (BE) will be presented. This concepthas been recently used to control the motion of autonomous microswimmers, breaking thesymmetry on the surface of this conductive objects in a wireless manner. The strategy to triggerthe motion relies on the generation and release of bubbles and was used for translation, rotationand levitation and it will be described in details. AB - Among luminescence techniques, electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) provides a unique level of manipulation of the luminescent process by controlling the electrochemical trigger. Despite its attractiveness, ECL is by essence a 2D process where light emission is strictly confined to the electrode surface. To overcome this intrinsic limitation, we added a new spatial dimension to the ECL process by generating 3D ECL at the level of millions of micro-emitters dispersed in solution. Each single object is addressed remotely by bipolar electrochemistry and they generate collectively the luminescence in the bulk. Therefore, the entire volume of the solution produces light. To illustrate the generality of this concept, we extended it to a suspension of multi-walled carbon nanotubes where each one acts as an individual ECL nano-emitter. This approach enables a change of paradigm by switching from a surface-limited process to 3D electrogenerated light emission.

AB - Ellagic acid is a biologically active polyphenol found in numerous fruits and vegetables. However, not many papers dealing with the electrochemical properties and protolytic equilibria of ellagic acid have been published so far. The electro-oxidation mechanism of ellagic acid was studied in methanol aqueous media (1:1, v/v) within the pH range of 1.5-9.0, t = 25 +/- A 1 A degrees C, using cyclic voltammetry on a glassy carbon electrode, and by semiempirical calculations. Results show that oxidation of ellagic acid is a pH-dependent, two-step quasireversible process. The slope of peak 1 indicates the exchange of the same number of electrons and protons within the whole studied pH range; the slope of peak 2 changes with the increase of pH, and three different regions are visible. As protolytic equilibria studies revealed that ellagic acid acts as a diprotic acid in the studied conditions (acidity constants were potentiometrically determined as pK (a1) = 5.42 +/- A 0.01 and pK (a2) = 6.76 +/- A 0.01), it is obvious that the electro-oxidation occurs at the hydroxyl group subjected to dissociation. The three different regions are therefore recognized as regions with different dominating species: unionized molecule (H(4)A), monoanion (H(3)A(-)), and dianion (H(2)A(2-)). UV/Vis spectral changes confirmed the proposed equilibria. Heat of formation and electron densities calculated at semiempirical level were used to propose the hydrogen and electron abstraction sites. According to the obtained results, a new mechanism of ellagic acid electro-oxidation is proposed.
