AB  - Breaking news are usually disturbing. Natural disasters, wars, epidemics etc. are reported as breaking news. This paper reports a decreased danger of spreading of epidemics caused by the JN.1 variant, since analyses indicate that (a) infectivity of the new variant is decreased compared to most earlier variants, which is confirmed by the number of cases (7500 daily in USA). Moreover, JN.1 despite the great number of mutations has not been able to achieve the values of Gibbs energy of biosynthesis (and thus virus multiplication rate) of the Hu-1 wild type. The research shows that infectivity and pathogenicity of the JN.1 variant has not reached worrying size, which means that there is no reason to expect a worsening of the epidemiologic situation.
AB  - Ударне вести су обично узнемирујуће. О природним катастрофама, ратовима, епидемијама итд. се извештава као ударним вестима. У овом раду је приказана смањена опасност од ширења епидемија изазваних варијантом JN.1, јер анализе показују да је (а) инфективност нове варијанте смањена у односу на већину ранијих варијанти, што потврђује и број случајева (7500 дневно у САД). Штавише, JN.1 упркос великом броју мутација није успео да постигне вредности Гибсове енергије биосинтезе (а самим тим и стопе размножавања вируса) дивљег типа Hu.1. Истраживање показује да инфективност и патогеност варијанте JN.1 није достигла забрињавајућу величину, што значи да нема разлога за очекивање погоршање епидемиолошке ситуације.

AB  - Every microorganism represents a biothermodynamic system, characterized by an empirical formula and thermodynamic properties of biosynthesis. Gibbs energy of biosynthesis influences the multiplication rate of a microorganism. In case of a mixed culture (microbial consortia) biosynthesis processes of microbial species are competitive. This is why Gibbs energy of biosynthesis determines the growth in a mixed culture. This paper gives a mechanistic model that explains growth of microorganisms in mixed culture and ability to grow in microbial consortia. Detailed biosynthesis reactions were formulated for the first time for five microorganism species, which include metallic elements. Moreover, thermodynamic properties of live matter and biosynthesis were calculated for the first time for five microorganism species and macromolecules.

Facile Synthesis of Sn-Pd Catalysts With High Performances For Ethanol Electro-Oxidation In Alkaline Medium

AB  - Nanostructured materials present unique properties as electrocatalysts for various industrial needs such as electrochemical energy conversion and storage. Aiming to enhance the electrocatalytic properties of Pd towards the electrochemical oxidation of ethanol, we used the electrodeposited Sn dendrites as a sub-layer for Pd. We tested the resulting Sn-Pd electrocatalysts for ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR). It was obtained that different morphological characteristics of Sn contribute to and determine Pd electrochemical behavior in EOR. By varying the amount of Sn loading prepared in the potentiostatic regime and keeping constant Pd loading, a series of Sn-Pd electrocatalysts with various ratios of Sn and Pd were synthesized and among them, Sn0.6-Pd0.4 showed to be the most active and poisoning tolerant catalyst in EOR. It was pointed out that optimization of composition and morphology assures well synergy of Sn with Pd towards EOR and at the same time demonstrates the guide for the design of novel materials with specific properties. Therefore Sn-Pd catalysts have emerged as a suitable and promising anode material for direct alcohol fuel cells.

AB  - A series of bimetallic Sn-Pd catalysts were prepared by a template-free two step electrodeposition method. According to this method, Sn was electrodeposited firstly in potentiostatic or galvanostatic regime on Cu electrodes in the form of dendrites, then Pd was galvanostatically electrodeposited in the second step on the electrode with the electrodeposited Sn dendrites. The produced Sn-Pd electrocatalysts were compared with an electrocatalyst obtained by Pd electrodeposition on a bare Cu electrode. The morphological and elemental analysis of Sn-Pd and Pd electrocatalysts was performed by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. The dendrites of various shapes and degree of branching were obtained by Sn deposition depending on electrodeposition regime, while Pd was electrodeposited in a form of compact Pd islands on both Sn dendrites and the Cu electrode. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was applied for the electrochemical examination of Sn-Pd and Pd catalysts towards the ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) in the alkaline solution. The electrocatalyst Sn0.6-Pd0.4 with an atomic ratio of 60 at.% Sn-40 at.% Pd showed higher oxidation efficiency and better tolerance towards intermediate species in EOR than the other examined electrocatalysts . It was shown that the lower fraction of Pd, relative to Sn, was crucial to achieving optimal synergy of Sn with Pd thus contributing to enhanced electrochemical behavior regarding EOR.
AB  - Серија на биметални катализатори со различни односи на Sn:Pd беа подготвени со методот
на двостепена електродепозиција без користење шаблонски протокол. Според овој метод, прво Sn во форма на дендрити беше нанесен електрохемиски во потенциостатски или галваностатски режим врз површината на Cu-електроди. Потоа, во вториот чекор, Pd беше галваностатски нанесен на електродата врз нанесените дендрити од Sn. Вака добиените Sn:Pd-електрокатализатори беа споредени со електрокатализатори добиени со нанесување на Pd на чиста Cu електрода. Морфолошката и елементарната анализа на Sn:Pd и Pd-електрокатализаторите беше направена со помош на скенирачка електронска микроскопија (SEM) и со примена на рендгенска спектроскопија со енергетска дисперзија (EDS). Дендритите со различни форми и различен степен на разгранување беа добиени со нанесување Sn во зависност од режимот на електродепозиција, додека Pd беше нанесен во форма на компактни острови врз дендритите од Pd и Sn на површината на Cu-електродата. Цикличната волтаметрија (CV) беше применета за електрохемиското испитување на Sn:Pd и Pd-катализаторите во од аспект на оксидацијата на етанолот во алкална средина. Eлектрокатализаторот Sn0.6-Pd0,4 со атомски однос од 60 % Sn и 40 % Pd покажа поголема 
ефикасност на оксидација и поголема толеранција во однос на интермедијарните супстрати 
отколку другите испитани електрокатализатори. Се покажа дека помал удел на Pd во однос на Sn е еден од клучните фактори за обезбедување оптимална синергија на Sn со Pd, при што на овој начин беше забележана зголемена електрохемиска активност односно оксидацијата на етанолот.

AB  - The main objective of this research is the development of catalytic materials based on a combination 
of metal-oxides with extremely low-loading of Pt for oxygen reduction reactions (ORR). Materials 
compared were La2O3 with 5 mass% loading of Pt (La2O3-Pt) and La2O3/MnO2 multioxide based

AB  - Electrochemical properties of pigment extracts from dark red corn grains was investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) on glassy carbon electrode (GC) in 0.1 M H2SO4. The shape of CV was typical for the oxidation of polyphenols. The antioxidant capacity of pigment from dark red corn grains was established from the charge under the anodic peaks. Quantitative determination of dark red corn pigments was performed by SWV. The linear polarization resistance (LPR) examinations were conduced in order to study the corrosion effect of polyphenolics on mild steel. Calculated corrosion inhibition efficiency ranged from 30% to 70%. Determination of the corrosion inhibition efficiency revealed that the red corn pigments have anti-corrosion effect on mild steels.

Dobijeni oblik CV je tipičan za oksidaciju polifenola. Antioksidativna kapacitivnost je utvrđena određivanjem naelektrisanja ispod anodnih pikova. AB  - The paper analyses the corrosion behaviour of both naturally and artificially aged AA2024 aluminium alloy in NaCl solution in the presence of the corrosion inhibitor benzotriazole (BTA). The differences between these two aging tempers in terms of resistance to general corrosion are explained as well as the differences in terms of pit formation and pit growth. Based on the values of the polarisation resistance and the corrosion current density, the general corrosion resistance of the alloy is determined in the absence and in the presence of BTA. The resistance to pit formation and pit growth is determined on the basis of the polarisation measurements results. Scanning electron microscopy confirmed the expected differences in the appearance and size of the pits formed in naturally aged and artificially aged alloy. In the presence of the corrosion inhibitor BTA, for both aging tempers of the alloy, the corrosion resistance is significantly higher compared to the resistance in the solution without the inhibitor. The value of the polarisation resistance for both aging tempers increases over time. However, at the same time, the value of the constant phase element increases as well. An explanation for this phenomenon is provided. The calculated average value of the thickness of the adsorbed inhibitor layer on the surface of the aluminium alloy is in accordance with the inhibitor protective ability for both aging tempers.

AB  - The results of experimental studies of the properties of composite materials based on Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) matrix filled with electrolytic copper powder, having very high dendritic structure, are presented in this manuscript. Copper powder volume fractions used as filler in all prepared composites were varied in the range of 0.4-7.2 vol. %. The samples were prepared by hot moulding injection at 140°C. Influence of morphology on the conductivity and percolation threshold of the composites was examined and characterization included: Electrical conductivity measurements using Impedance Spectroscopy (IS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Presence of three dimensional conductive pathways was confirmed. The obtained percolation threshold was 2.72 vol.%, which is about three times lower than the one stated in the literature for similar composites. This property is ascribed to different morphology of filler used in investigation.

AB  - The problems of environment and evaluation of natural capital belong to the phenomenology of externalities, and the requirements of environmental economics are ever more oriented towards the elaboration of the ecological-economic category of the externalization of internal expenses, wherefrom reasons for the introduction of ecological-economic instruments, before all payments for pollutions, ensue. Demystification of the negative conviction relating ecological payments as taxes is very important, since it must be shown that ecological payments correct, mitigate or remove externalities. Environmental protection is a complex system and it consists in a set of rules, measures and instruments that are applied for the surveillance of pollution sources, and shaping of instruments for environmental protection is a complex process intended for the accomplishment of established ecological goals. Among all instruments available for bridging the gap of internalization and exerting a significant effect on polluters to diminish their emissions of pollution, the ecological and economic ones are most important. The results of our investigation have demonstrated that it is necessary to reshape the current set of instruments regarding protection of vital functions of nature and an efficient environmental protection, and one of the key cognitions is that the scientific and professional public must not be excluded from the appraisals of creating and redesigning the instruments of environmental protection. These assertions have their foundation in the premise that the significance of elements of the social dimension in sustainable development is to a great extent determined by the level of environmental degradation and reduction in capacity of renewable sources. The paper, approach and data processing of the conducted research offer a new model and new elements of methodology for establishing the state and quality of the environment, whereby social-economic criteria of research (a socio-economic laboratory) are introduced into the fundamental analysis of the condition of crucial media of the environment, but also into shaping a more efficacious instrument set of protection. In such a way, a substantial contribution is given to the affirmation of a holistic and inter-disciplinary approach in the investigation and understanding the phenomenon of contemporary environmental reality, especially the central media of the environment (water, air, soil).

Chemical corrosion of metals and alloys

AB  - In this paper, phenomena of chemical corrosion of metals and alloys in electrolyte solutions are analyzed. It is shown that iron, chromium and other metals and alloys dissolve much faster than is the corrosion rate determined by electrochemical methods. This means that the chemical dissolution takes place simultaneously with the electrochemical dissolution. The chemical dissolution does not depend on electrode potential. Under some conditions, chemical dissolution of metals is the dominant process of dissolution. Several mechanisms of chemical corrosion are described. Also, the consequences of chemical dissolution of various metals and alloys are discussed, as well as the hydrogen evolution during the chemical dissolution. The process of hydrogen evolution during the chemical corrosion is not subjected to the laws of electrochemical kinetics.
AB  - U ovom preglednom radu analizirana je hemijska korozija metala i legura u rastvorima elektrolita. Pokazano je da se gvožđe, hrom i neki drugi metali i legure rastvaraju mnogo brže nego što je njihova brzina korozije određena elektrohemijskim metodama. To znači da se istovremeno sa elektrohemijskim rastvaranjem odvija i hemijsko rastvaranje, koje ne zavisi od potencijala. U nekim uslovima hemijsko rastvaranje metala je dominantan proces rastvaranja. Opisano je više mehanizama hemijske korozije. Takođe, razmatrane su posledice hemijskog rastvaranja različitih metala i legura, kao i pojava izdvajanja vodonika pri hemijskom rastvaranju. Proces izdvajanja vodonika pri hemijskoj koroziji ne podleže zakonitostima elektrohemijske kinetike.

Determination of the weld metal corrosion rate using electrochemical techniques

AB  - To determine corrosion rate of the base metal and weld metal were applied electrochemical techniques: linear polarization resistance, linear sweep voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The samples were obtained by arc welding steel boiler plate using coated basic electrode. Factory electrode and electrodes, which are produced in the laboratory thinly and thick coated basic electrodes, were used for welding. It was found that the corrosion rate of the weld metal was greater than the corrosion rate of the base metal. The corrosion rate of weld metal obtained by thinly coated electrodes is less than the corrosion rate of weld metal obtained by thick coated basic and factory-coated electrodes. The corrosion rates, determined by different electrochemical techniques are in agreement.
AB  - Za određivanje brzine korozije osnovnog metala i metala šava u zavarenom spoju primenjene su elektrohemijske tehnike: linearna polarizaciona otpornost, voltametrija sa linearnom promenom potencijala i elektrohemijska impedansna spektroskopija. Uzorci za ispitivanje dobijeni su elektrolučnim zavarivanjem čeličnog kotlovskog lima, uz upotrebu obloženih bazičnih elektroda. Pri zavarivanju je korišćena fabrička elektroda i elektrode koje su proizvedene u laboratorijskim uslovima (tanko obložena i debelo obložena bazična elektroda). Utvrđeno je da je brzina korozije metala šava veća od brzine korozije osnovnog metala. Brzina korozije metala šava dobijenog pomoću tanko obložene elektrode je manja od brzine korozje metala šava dobijenog pomoću debelo obložene i fabričke elektrode. Vrednosti za brzinu korozije, određene različitim elektrohemijskim tehnikama, su u saglasnosti.

AB  - In this work, the mechanisms of hydrogen evolution on the metal chromium in a solution of 0.1 M Na2SO4 + H2SO4, pH 1 to pH 7 were analysed. In the pH  LT  3 range, hydrogen is evolved according to three different mechanisms, depending on the experimental conditions: electrochemical evolution of H2 by reaction of H+ ions according to the Volmer-Heyrovsky mechanism, on the bare chromium surface, during chemical dissolution of chromium by the Kolotyrkin mechanism, which does not depend on the electrode potential, and electrochemical hydrogen evolution by the Volmer-Heyrovsky mechanism, but on the passive chromium. At pH values greater than 3, the fourth mechanism of hydrogen evolution is observed, that is electrochemical reaction of water molecules on the surface of oxide covered chromium surface.
AB  - U ovom radu analizirani su mehanizmi izdvajanja vodonika na metalnom hromu u rastvoru 0,1 M Na2SO4 + H2SO4, pH 1 do pH 7. U oblasti pH  LT  3 vodonik se izdvaja u zavisnosti od eksperimentalnih uslova po tri različita mehanizma: elektrohemijskim izdvajanjem H2 reagovanjem H+ jona po mehanizmu Folmer-Hejrovski na čistoj površini hroma, pri hemijskom rastvaranju hroma po mehanizmu Kolotirkina, a koje ne zavisi od elektrodnog potencijala i elektrohemijskim izdvajanjem vodonika po mehanizmu Folmer-Hejrovski, ali na pasivnom hromu. AB  - The influence of temperature on electrochemical and chemical dissolution of chromium was studied in the acidic sulphuric solutions. The hydrogen evolution reaction, as well as the anodic dissolution and chemical dissolution of chromium from activated surfaces in sulphuric acid solutions pH 1 follow the Arrhenius law, with the apparent activation energies of 35 kJ mol-1, 58 kJ mol-1 and 62 kJ mol-1, respectively. The higher activation energy of the chemical dissolution of chromium leads to the signifycantly noticeable chemical corrosion on elevated temperatures in comparison with the electrochemical corrosion.
AB  - Ispitivan je uticaj temperature na elektrohemijsko i hemijsko rastvaranje hroma u kiselim rastvorima sulfata. Reakcije izdvajanja vodonika, anodnog rastvaranja i hemijskog rastvaranja hroma sa aktivirane površine hroma u rastvoru sumporne kiseline pH 1 slede Arenijusovu zavisnost sa prividnom energijom aktivacije 35 kJ mol-1, 58 kJ mol-1 i 62 kJ mol-1, respektivno. Velika energija aktivacije hemijskog rastvaranja hroma dovodi na povišenim temperaturama do znatno izraženije hemijske korozije u odnosu na elektrohemijsku koroziju.
