AB - Electrodeposited Pd and Sb-Pd catalysts were tested for the ethanol oxidation reaction by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. Palladium-antimony deposit was synthesized on a glassy carbon substrate by a two-step process, comprising deposition of Sb followed by deposition of Pd. The Sb-Pd electrocatalyst with the Sn:Pd atomic ratio 0.2:0.8 was obtained. Compared with pure Pd, the incorporation of Sb results in the increase of activity and stability of bimetallic catalyst for the electrocatalytic ethanol oxidation reaction. Besides upon the end of the current-time transient, the investigated Sb-Pd catalyst was subjected to the potential cycling showing the ability to recover activity loss implying the surface composition stability. The enhanced performance of Sb-Pd is mainly ascribed to the bifunctional mechanism and electronic effect.
AB - Elektrohemijski nataloženi Pd i Sb-Pd katalizatori su ispitivani u reakciji oksidacije etanola cikličnom voltametrijom i hronoampeometrijskom metodom.

AB - Sn-Pd electrocatalysts convenient for a possible application in direct ethanol fuel cell were produced by two electrochemical deposition method. In the first step, Sn dendrites of various degree of ramification were electrodeposited by potentiostatically on cathodic potentials of –1200, –1400, –1600 and –1800 mV vs. Ag/AgCl. Electrodeposition of tin was performed from 20 g/l SnCl2 × 2H2O in 250 g/l NaOH electrolyte at the room temperature on Cu electrodes. In the second step, Pd was electrodeposited galvanostatically at a current density of –5 mA cm-2 on the electrodes with electrodeposited Sn dendrites. Electrodeposition of Pd was performed from 1 M NH4Cl and 0.01 M PdCl2 at the room temperature. The processes of electrochemical deposition of Sn and Pd were performed with amounts of the electricity of 400 and 267 mC, giving an atomic ratio synthesized the electrocatalysts of 60 at.% Sn‒40 at.% Pd. Morpological and elemental analysis of the Sn-Pd electrocatalysts was performed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), respectively. The particle size distribution (PSD) was used to estimate a size of Sn dendrites.

AB - Nanostructured materials present unique properties as electrocatalysts for various industrial needs such as electrochemical energy conversion and storage. Aiming to enhance the electrocatalytic properties of Pd towards the electrochemical oxidation of ethanol, we used the electrodeposited Sn dendrites as a sub-layer for Pd. We tested the resulting Sn-Pd electrocatalysts for ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR). It was obtained that different morphological characteristics of Sn contribute to and determine Pd electrochemical behavior in EOR. By varying the amount of Sn loading prepared in the potentiostatic regime and keeping constant Pd loading, a series of Sn-Pd electrocatalysts with various ratios of Sn and Pd were synthesized and among them, Sn0.6-Pd0.4 showed to be the most active and poisoning tolerant catalyst in EOR. It was pointed out that optimization of composition and morphology assures well synergy of Sn with Pd towards EOR and at the same time demonstrates the guide for the design of novel materials with specific properties. Therefore Sn-Pd catalysts have emerged as a suitable and promising anode material for direct alcohol fuel cells.

AB - Procesi nukleacije i rasta dendrita kalaja iz alkalnog hidroksidnog elektrolita su istraženi hronoamperometrijom i skenirajućom elektronskom mikroskopskom (SEM) analizom taloga potenciostatski elektrohemijski istaloženih na selektivnim katodnim potencijalima.
AB - The processes of nucleation and growth of tin dendrites from alkaline hydroxide electrolyte have been investigated by chronoamperometry and by the scanning electron microscopic (SEM) analysis of the deposits potentiostatically electrodeposited at the selected cathodic potentials. The Scharifker and Hills (SH) model based on three dimensional nucleation with diffusion controlled growth was used for a determination of a nucleation type. Irrespective of the applied cathodic potential, the obtained dimensionless dependencies were lower than the theoretical predictions for the progressive type of nucleation. On the other hand, morphology of Sn dendrites strongly depended on the applied cathodic potential, and either the needle-like or the fern-like dendrites were formed by the potentiostatic regime of electrodeposition. On the basis of the morphological analysis of Sn dendrites electrodeposited with various amounts of the electricity, it is concluded that nucleation of Sn from the examined electrolyte still follows the progressive type, and that the deviation of the theoretical predictions for this type can be attributed to use of complex electrolyte for Sn electrodeposition.

AB - We are reporting the electrochemical behavior of bimetallic Sn-Pd catalysts in ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR). Sn-Pd catalysts were prepared by two step electrodeposition technique whereby by regulating deposition conditions various forms of Sn dendrites and different atomic ratios of Sn:Pd were achieved. The electrocatalytic activity of Sn-Pd catalysts were evaluated for EOR in alkaline solution using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometric (CA) measurements. The highest activity and anti-poisoning ability exhibited Sn0.67-Pd0.33 catalyst due to the better utilization of Pd. At Sn0.67-Pd0.33 catalyst Sn better contribute Pd to oxidize chemisorbed species by providing adsorbed OH- species, thereby enabling well synergy of Sn with Pd

abstract = "We are reporting the electrochemical behavior of bimetallic Sn-Pd catalysts in ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR). At Sn0.67-Pd0.33 catalyst Sn better contribute Pd to oxidize chemisorbed species by providing adsorbed OH- species, thereby enabling well synergy of Sn with Pd, U ovom radu se bavimo ispitivanjem elektrohemijskog ponašanja Sn-Pd katalizatora u reakciji oksidacije etanola (ROE).

AB - The processes of nucleation and growth of tin dendrites from the alkaline hydroxide solution have been investigated. Nucleation of tin was examined by chronoamperometry at the cathodic potentials which belonged to various positions at the polarization curve. The morphology of potentiostatically electrodeposited tin dendrites with various amounts of the electricity was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) technique. Depending on the cathodic potential applied for Sn electrodeposition, the following forms of Sn dendrites were obtained: the needle-like, the spear-like and the fern-like dendrites of various degree of ramification. Combining Sharifker and Hills (SH) model for a determination of nucleation type and results of morphological analysis of Sn dendrites, it is concluded that nucleation of Sn from the alkaline hydroxide solution follows the progressive type of nucleation.

AB - Tin dendrites found wide application in various industries.1 They can be obtained by both non-electrochemical and electrochemical methods of synthesis. In this study, they were produced by a galvanostatic regime of electrolysis from alkaline hydroxide solution at a current density of –3 mA cm–2, 1.5 times larger than the limiting diffusion current density, with an amount of the electricity of 200 and 400 mC. In the dependence of an amount of the passed electricity, Sn dendrites of various morphology and crystal orientation were obtained: the fern-like dendrites predominantly oriented in (220), (440) crystal planes are obtained with 200 mC and the spear-like and the dendrites with prismatic branches showing the strong (200),(400) preferred orientationwere obtained with 400 mC.
The strong correlation between morphology and structure of Sn dendrites is established and it can be explained by analysis of chronopotentiometry response obtained at the given current density and by morphological and structural analyses of Sn dendrites obtained by a potentiostatic regime at cathodic potentials corresponding to values attained after the passed amount of the electricity of 200 and 400 mC. The chronopotentiometry response after spent 200 mC was dominantly in the (–1600 –1740) mV vs. Ag/AgCl range, and the fern-like dendrites with the strong (220), (440) preferred orientation were obtained in this potential range. After spent 400 mC, the chronopotentiometry response was about –1200 mV vs. Ag/AgCl, and the spear-like and the dendrites with prismatic branches with the strong (200),(400) preferred orientationwere obtained at this cathodic potential.

AB - A series of bimetallic Sn-Pd catalysts were prepared by a template-free two step electrodeposition method. According to this method, Sn was electrodeposited firstly in potentiostatic or galvanostatic regime on Cu electrodes in the form of dendrites, then Pd was galvanostatically electrodeposited in the second step on the electrode with the electrodeposited Sn dendrites. The produced Sn-Pd electrocatalysts were compared with an electrocatalyst obtained by Pd electrodeposition on a bare Cu electrode. The morphological and elemental analysis of Sn-Pd and Pd electrocatalysts was performed by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. The dendrites of various shapes and degree of branching were obtained by Sn deposition depending on electrodeposition regime, while Pd was electrodeposited in a form of compact Pd islands on both Sn dendrites and the Cu electrode. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was applied for the electrochemical examination of Sn-Pd and Pd catalysts towards the ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) in the alkaline solution. The electrocatalyst Sn0.6-Pd0.4 with an atomic ratio of 60 at.% Sn-40 at.% Pd showed higher oxidation efficiency and better tolerance towards intermediate species in EOR than the other examined electrocatalysts . It was shown that the lower fraction of Pd, relative to Sn, was crucial to achieving optimal synergy of Sn with Pd thus contributing to enhanced electrochemical behavior regarding EOR.

AB - Sn-Pd electrocatalysts with a constant atomic ratio of 60 at.% Sn‒40 at.% Pd suitable for
potential application in direct ethanol fuel cells were synthesized using a novel two-step electrodeposition method. First, Sn was electrodeposited in various forms of dendrites, from spear-like and needle-like to individual fern-like dendrites to a network of intertwined fern-like dendrites, by varying the cathodic potential and then performing electrodeposition of Pd at a constant current
density in the second step. A morphological and elemental analysis of Sn and Sn-Pd electrocatalysts was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques, while the size of Sn dendrites was analyzed using the particle size distribution (PSD) method. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry were applied in order to study the catalytic behavior of Sn-Pd electrocatalysts in the ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR), while CO stripping was used to estimate the antipoisoning capability of the electrocatalysts. The Sn surface morphology of the sub-layer was highly correlated with the electrocatalytic activity of the examined Sn-Pd electrocatalysts. The high activity it presented towards the EOR showed the suitability of the Sn-Pd electrocatalyst constructed from individual fern-like Sn dendrites as a sub-layer. Compared to Pd alone, this Sn-Pd catalyst showed more than 3 times higher activity and improved EOR kinetics. This enhancement in the catalytic activity of the Sn-Pd electrocatalysts is attributed to both the morphological characteristics of Sn as a sub-layer and the bifunctional effect.

abstract = "Sn-Pd electrocatalysts with a constant atomic ratio of 60 at.% Sn‒40 at.% Pd suitable for
potential application in direct ethanol fuel cells were synthesized using a novel two-step electrodeposition method.
This enhancement in the catalytic activity of the Sn-Pd electrocatalysts is attributed to both the morphological characteristics of Sn as a sub-layer and the bifunctional effect.",

AB - The influence of chronopotentiometry response on the morphology and structure of galvanostatically synthesized tin dendritic
particles has been investigated. Sn dendrites were electrodeposited at the current density 1.5 times larger than the limiting diffusion
current density (− 3 mA cm−
2) with various amounts of the electricity (200 and 400 mC), and the obtained morphology
and structure of the particles were characterized by SEM and XRD techniques, respectively. The strong effect of the amount
of spent electricity on the morphology and structure of the particles was observed, and it is explained by morphological and
structural analysis of Sn particles produced potentiostatically at various cathodic potentials selected to be in line with the
recorded chronopotentiometry response. The strong correlation among chronopotentiometry response, morphology, and
structure of the Sn dendrites was established. The spear-like and the dendrites with prismatic branches possessed the strong
(200),(400) preferred orientation, and they were obtained with a chronopotentiometry response of about − 1200 mV vs. Ag/
AgCl. The chronopotentiometry responses in the − 1210 ÷ − 1740 mV vs. Ag/AgCl range caused a formation of the fern-like
dendrites with the strong (220),(440) preferred orientation. Based on the obtained results, it follows that the chronopotentiometry
analysis represents good diagnostic criteria for obtaining Sn powder particles of desired morphology and structure.

AB - In this work, the electrooxidation ability of nine pyridones was evaluated using cyclic
(CV) and square-wave voltammetry (SWV) in Britton–Robinson (BR) aqueous buffer solutions on a
glassy carbon electrode (GC). The dependence of electrochemical activity on pyridone structure was
elucidated by means of experimentally obtained spectra and quantum chemical calculations. Firstly, it
was shown that electrochemical activity is determined by the –OH group as a substituent in position
6 of the pyridone ring. By coupling the experimentally obtained UV-Vis spectra and DFT calculations,
the most stable forms, both protonated and deprotonated, were defined. The calculated values are
consistent with the electrochemical behavior observed, indicating that the deprotonated anionic form
was the most electrochemically active. Moreover, the impact of the substituent in position 3 of the
pyridone scaffold was discussed

AB - Tin dendrites were synthesized via electrochemical route from the alkaline electrolyte applying both
potentiostatic and galvanostatic regimes of the electrodeposition. Various both cathodic potentials
and amounts of the passed electricity were used for Sn electrodeposition in the potentiostatic regime. Morphology and structure of synthesized tin dendritic particles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques, respectively. Depending on the applied cathodic potential, morphology of tin dendrites changed from the needle-like and the spear-like to very ramified dendrites of various shape. The branchy Sn dendrites were of two dimensional (2D) shape constructed from stalk and branches developed from it (primary (P) branches), classifying them into 2D(P) type according to Wranglen`s definition of a dendrite. The XRD analysis of produced tin particles showed that the needle-like and the spear-like dendrites represented monocrystals (200) orientation, while Sn crystallites in the potenciostatically obtained 2D(P) dendrites were predominately oriented in (440) plane. Morphology of tin particles was also correlated with polarization characteristics for this system, confirming belonging tin to the group of the normal metals, characterized by the high values of the exchange current density and overpotential for hydrogen evolution reaction, and by the low melting point.

AB - The formation of tin dendritic nanostructures by electrolysis from the alkaline electrolyte
has been investigated. Morphology and structure of Sn dendrites produced applying both potentiostatic and galvanostatic regimes of the electrolysis are characterized by SEM and XRD, respectively. Depending on the applied cathodic potentials, three types of Sn dendrites were obtained: (a) needle like and spear-like, (b) fern-like, and (c) stem-like dendrites. The very branchy dendrites with branches of the prismatic shape obtained by the galvanostatic regime of electrolysis represented a
novel type of Sn dendrites, not previously reported in the literature. To explain the formation of
various dendritic forms, correlation with the polarization characteristics for this electrodeposition
system is considered. The needle-like and the spear-like dendrites represented monocrystals of
(200),(400) preferred orientation, the fern-like dendrites exhibited the predominant (220),(440) preferred
orientation, while in the stem-like particles Sn crystallites were oriented to a greater extent in
the (440) crystal plane than in other planes. The galvanostatically synthesized Sn particles possessed the strong (200),(400) preferred orientation. The strong influence of parameters and regimes of
electrodeposition on structural characteristics of Sn dendrites is explained by the fundamental laws
of electrocrystallization taking into consideration the concept of slow-growing and fast-growing
crystal planes.

AB - Duloxetine hydrochloride (DUL) is effective in treating depression, and was examined for electroanalytical purposes. The DUL
standard was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and determined using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) via its electrooxidation
at the Au electrode in 0.05 M NaHCO3. DPV showed a linear dependency of the anodic peak currents vs DUL standard
concentrations in the range from 0.1 to 3.33 μg ml−1 with the values of the limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification
(LOQ): 0.133 and 0.667 μg ml−1, respectively. Using the constructed and validated calibration curve, the values of unknown DUL
concentrations in both Taita® tablets and in human serum spiked with the standard were determined. The number of protons and
electrons transferred was calculated and possible reaction mechanisms taking place on the surface of both electrodes were
proposed. The Au electrode exhibited a better sensitivity and a wider range of current vs concentration linear dependency for DUL
quantitative determination than the GC electrode. The study of DUL degradation showed that at the Au and GC electrodes, after
4.5 h of potential cycling, degradation occurs, giving formaldehyde as a product, which was confirmed by high performance liquid
chromatography (HPLC)

AB - Ticagrelor hydrochloride (TCG) is effective in platelet inhibition and useful for preventing cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or ischaemic stroke. The drug standard was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and quantitatively determined using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) via its electrooxidation at Au electrode in 0.05 M NaHCO3. DPV showed a linear dependency of the anodic peak currents vs. TCG standard concentrations in the range from 3 x 10-7 mol l-1 to 10-5 mol l-1 with the values of the limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification: 0.288 μmol l-1 and 0.96 μmol l-1, respectively. Using the constructed and validated calibration curve, the values of unknown ticagrelor concentrations in Ticagrex® tablets and in human serum spiked with the standard were determined. Mechanistic study suggests that the oxidation proceeds at sulfur atom by removal of one electron as the rate determining step. In the next, fast step, formed radical cation loose another electron and sulfoxide is formed (with water molecule as nucleophile). The study of TCG degradation showed that at the Au, after 4.5 h of potential cycling, degradation occurs, which was confirmed by UV spectroscopy.

AB - Electrochemical properties of pigment extracts from dark red corn grains was investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) on glassy carbon electrode (GC) in 0.1 M H2SO4. The shape of CV was typical for the oxidation of polyphenols. The antioxidant capacity of pigment from dark red corn grains was established from the charge under the anodic peaks. Quantitative determination of dark red corn pigments was performed by SWV. The linear polarization resistance (LPR) examinations were conduced in order to study the corrosion effect of polyphenolics on mild steel. Calculated corrosion inhibition efficiency ranged from 30% to 70%. Determination of the corrosion inhibition efficiency revealed that the red corn pigments have anti-corrosion effect on mild steels.

AB - The electrochemical characterization of sertraline at gold electrode was examined by cyclic voltammetry measurements (CV) in pH 8.4 bicarbonate buffer. Then Au electrode was evaluated for the quantitative determination of sertraline using square wave voltammetry (SWV). To enhance the sensitivity during the drug determination, (2-hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin
(HPβCD) and β-cyclodextrin (βCD) inclusion complexes were employed. Using the proposed SWV technique, the anodic current peak was linear within a concentration range of 0.1–0.5 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.0 × 10–8 M and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 6.7 × 10–8 M. In the case of inclusion complex of the sertraline with HPβCD, a good linearity range of 0.1–0.9 μM was obtained with a LOD of 2.6 × 10–8 M and a LOQ of 8.8 × 10–8 M. The gold electrode
revealed the same linearity range for inclusion complex of the sertraline with βCD with a LOD and a LOQ being 2.6 × 10–8 and 8.6 × 10–8 M, respectively. Comparing the regression equations, it can be concluded that the sensitivity in the presence of inclusion complex can be up to 5 times higher. The applicability of the developed method was confirmed by the analysis of this drug in pharmaceutical formulation and in human serum spiked with sertraline standard. The comparison to HPLC method was successfully performed.

The comparison to HPLC method was successfully performed.",

AB - The electrochemical characterization of sertraline standard at gold electrode was at first performed by cyclic voltammetry measurements (CV) in pH 8.4 bicarbonate buffer. Then Au electrode was evaluated for the quantitative determination of sertraline using square wave voltammetry (SWV). Namely, (2-hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) sertraline inclusion complexe was employed to enhance the electrode sensitivity of the drug determination. Using the proposed SWV technique, the anodic current peak of sertraline oxidation was linear within a concentration range of 0.1–0.5 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.0  10-8 M and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 6.7  10-8 M. In the case of inclusion complex of the sertraline with HPβCD, a good linearity range of 0.1–0.9 μM was obtained with a LOD of 2.6  10-8 M and a LOQ of 8.8  10-8 μM. Comparing the regression equations, it can be concluded that the sensitivity in the presence of inclusion complex can be up to 5 times higher.

AB - Biochemistry coupled with electrochemical approach is employed in a fast, relatively simple, yet highly precise detection of a plant extract antioxidant properties. Antioxidant capacity of dark red corn grains was investigated electrochemically using cyclic voltammetry (CV) on glassy carbon electrode (GC). The linear polarization resistance (LPR) measurements were performed for examining the corrosion inhibitive behavior of polyphenolics on mild steel. The consistent positive correlation (r=0.99) was established between total phenolic and flavonoid contents obtained by CV measurements and spectrophotometric antioxidant assay (DPPH test). Both analyses confirm the high antioxidant activity of tested pigments. Determination of the corrosion inhibition efficiency revealed that the red corn pigments have anti-corrosion effect on mild steels.

AB - Thin-film Pd catalysts with low metal loadings (55 and 110 µg cm-2) were obtained by electrodeposition from a surfactant-free green electrolyte on glassy carbon (GC) electrode. Pd/GC catalysts were modified by addition of various amounts of Bi via irreversible adsorption. The catalysts were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and then studied in methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) and ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) in alkaline solution.Electrochemical tests shown that the modification of the appropriate amount of Bi on Pd/GC catalyst enhance activity toward MOR and EOR up to about 2-3 times compared to unmodified catalysts. Besides surface Bi coverage (ƟBi) of 0.6 increase durability and provides more poisoning tolerant Pd/GC electrode in both studied reactions. The improvement of electrochemical performances of Bi modified Pd/GC catalysts is attributed to the third body effect and the bifunctional mechanism.

AB - The Ag, Pd and AgPd alloys of different morphologies and compositions were electrodeposited onto Au
and glassy carbon (GC) disc electrodes from the solution containing 0.001 M PdCl2 þ 0.04 M AgCl þ 0.1 M
HCl þ 12 M LiCl under the conditions of non-stationary (RPM ¼ 0, samples AgPd1 and AgPd2) and
convective diffusion (RPM ¼ 1000, sample AgPd3). Electrodeposited alloy layers were characterized by
the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray
photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) was investigated on all coatings in
0.1 M NaOH solution saturated with oxygen. The j-E curves for the ORR were recorded by two proced-
ures: (1) samples were cycled with 5 mV s
 1
from open circuit potential (OCP) to 0.8 V for Ag and AgPd
alloys (or 0.6 V for pure Pd) and back; (2) samples were cycled with 5 mV s
 1
from open circuit po-
tential to 0.45 V (formation of Ag2O, in the case of Pd formation of PdO and PdO2), from 0.45 V to 0.60 V
and back to the OCP. Significant catalytic activity for the Ag and AgPd alloys was detected after cycling
electrodes in the potential region of Ag2O formation and reduction. Increase of the catalytic activity for
AgPd alloys was, for the first time in the literature, ascribed to the presence of a certain amount of Ag2O
which could not be completely reduced during the reverse sweep from 0.45 V to 0.6 V. Catalytic activity
of AgPd alloys was found to be closely related to the amount of non-reduced Ag2O (most probably in the
form of Ag-hydroxide). In the absence of such treatment, the catalytic activity for the ORR on electro-
deposited Ag and AgPd alloy coatings was not detected.

AB - NI-Sn alloy coating was deposited galvanostatically at j= -100 mA cm-2 from the bath containing 0.1M Sn2+ and 0.1 M Ni2+ ions in the pyrophosphate-glycine solution. The coating sample was investigated for ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) in alkaline solution using cyclic voltammetry. Chronoamperometric measurements were used to determine the electrocatalyst stability. The presence of Sn can contribute to the oxidation of the EOR products that poisons the Ni surface sites. Also the presence of Sn atoms within the Ni structure, modifies the electronic density of states of Ni, thus preventing strong binding of poisoning species. This work represents a recommendation in developing cost-effective electrocatalyst with high activity and stability for EOR in DEFCs.
