AB - The explored area of Banat, located in NE Serbia, with its geological and geothermal characteristics, represents an area with extraordinary ecological potential. The geological structure of Banat is represented by various complexes of Neogene and Quaternary deposits. The Neogene sediments are mostly composed of sandstone, shale, marlstone, sand and gravel. Mesozoic igneous complex is represented by dacites, andesites and basalts. During Quaternary a relatively thick succession of genetically different types of sediments was deposited. Pleistocene and Holocene aeolian sand and loess and fluvial sandy-clayey alevrites, clays, sands and gravel cover the large area. Thickness and lithological composition of crust and lithosphere, as well as character, types and age of tectonic movements and magmatism decisively influence the content of radioactive elements (uranium, thorium and potassium) in the rocks. Nevertheless, the geothermal characteristics of a particular area are influenced in a significant extent by seismicity and hydrogeological properties. The small thickness of the crust and lithosphere, as a result of various geodynamic movements, during the lower and middle Miocene, classify the Pannonian Basin, and therefore the Banat area, among the most promising geothermal areas in Europe. The favorable geothermal characteristics of Banat also show high average values of geothermal gradient and terrestrial heat flux.

AB - Lakes and reservoirs, except groundwater and surface water, are in use for water supplying. In most cases, the reservoir was considered as a physical object from the hydroconstrucional and hydrogeological aspects and the ecological and biological aspects was ignored. Reservoirs are objects that were created by anthropogenic activities in the basin. They have their own singularity and their developmental stages. In the last-the evolution phase reservoir is affected by eutrophication, whose intensity depends on the amount of nutrients from the basin. Natural and anthropogenic influences give them more characteristic of unstable aquatic systems, dominated by the processes of eutrophication. With regard to development of eutrophication in reservoirs with water suppling as the main purpose, becomes actual again after frequent blooms, significant amounts of cyanotoxins and consumer complaints about sensory properties of drinking water. The aim of this study was to identify the causes that lead to the degradation of the water quality in the reservoir, and the factors that they have a long term effect on its trophicity. The establishment of sanitary protection zones are the key factors for the maintenance of water quality in reservoirs.

AB - In accordance to geological-structural characteristics of the terrain, in the phase of regional researches of uranium, different methods of geochemical prospection were applied. By hydrogeochemical prospection areas of natural radionuclides influence on living environment of rural settlements were defined. The locations were selected in which contents of U, 226Ra and 222Rn were increased in underground and ground water. The locations were selected in different geological environments: - Area of Vršac mountains which is built of crystalline schists with traces of granite. In them using Monte Carlo method geochemical radiation burden and cancer incidence were calculated per 100000 inhabitants. - In the area of tertiary sediments of Zaplanjski and Barbeški basins, anomalous concentrations of U, 226Ra and 222Rn were detected in springs, wells and surface flows. The determined secondary scattering halos of uranium, radium and radon in underground and surface water define radio ecological halos of rural settlements at selected locations. Research results contribute to the identification of geopathogenic zones of natural radionuclides influence on human population in living environment. The prospected area within regional researches includes the area of over 1000 km2. Several thousand samples were collected in which: contents of U, Ra and Rn, anioniccationic composition, content of gases and microelements, pH, Eh, Ep, mineralization, firmness, were determined in the purpose of monitoring natural radionuclides distribution and their deposition at favorable geochemical barriers. In accordance to World Health Organization criteria (WHO) for radionuclides concentrations in drinking water in radio ecological halos, water check points were isolated in which U,226Ra and 222Rn contents exceed allowed concentrations, which is shown in: tables, diagrams and hydrogeochemical maps (1:50000).

AB - The quality of surface waters is a very important problem incorporated in the environment protection. Water reservoir “Grliste” was formed with the aim of water supplies of Zajecar and surrounding villages in Eastern Serbia. In this paper, the measured values of nutrient concentrations, were analysed in the water reservoir and its tributaries Lenovacka and Lasovacka river. The influence of anthropogenic factors of degradation on the water reservoir, during the exploitation was analysed. Sampling was performed in according to seasonal changes, and results were analyzed for the period (May - October). Defined by the law of areas sanitary protection, the basis for the purpose of prevention of the degradation (organic and other pollutants) of the water reservoir was formed. Special attention is given to the structural characteristics of the geological terrain, mineral occurrences and mines in the hydro accumulation basin. The research results will be shown with tables, charts and maps.

AB - Based on the results of geological-geophysical surveys and structural drillings, the promising area was allocated, in terms of geothermal energy, which is important for the development of tourism (spas), industrial and agricultural facilities in rural villages in Vojvodina. The exploration area includes the Southern edge of the Pannonian Basin. Small thickness of the earth's crust-lithosphere places the Pannonian basin (respectively the region of Vojvodina), among the most promising geothermal areas in Europe. The use of renewable energy sources - geothermal energy is of the importantance, regarding to the reduction in reserve of fossil fuels and the impact of emissions on the global warming. In spatial planning research results were applied in the development of geothermal energy Vojvodina tourism (spas), industrial buildings and its use in rural areas. Among the main factors which are affecting the formal assessment of the potential for geothermal energy are low competitive prices of fossil fuels, inadequate legislation and a lack of finance. This paper presents the main aspects of geothermal energy utilization in Vojvodina.

AB - Areas of anomalous concentrations of natural radionuclides and other toxic elements in water has been defined by hydro-geochemical regional prospecting in the frame of nuclear and other mineral resources researches. Geochemical tests were performed in the tertiary basin of area "Vranjska banja", in accordance with metallogenetic and geological-structural and morphological characteristics. During the regional prospecting, water samples were collected, on the hydrographic network, from surface streams, springs, wells and drills. Contents of uranium and parameters such as pH value, Eh, and Ep, were determined in all water samples. In addition, contents of 238U, 226Ra and 222Rn, microelements, the anion-cation composition, O2, H2S, CO2 gases, mineralization and hardness, were determined in the recently collected samples due to radioactive anomalies checking and evaluation. Increased concentrations of macroelements, especially contents of: Br, I, F, and Zn, natural radionuclides 238U, 226Ra and 222Rn, were recorded in water samples. Research results are presented in tables, diagrams and maps. According to hydrogrochmical test results as well as other geochemical and geophysical investigations it is possible to define radiological areas with significant impacts of natural radionuclides in environment of rural South Serbia.

AB - Selected locations of increased content of natural soil radionuclides are located in promising zone of internal Dinarides. The main characteristic of this zone is containing a numerous bauxite deposits, which appear in Eastern Bosnia (Vlasenica bauxites), Western Serbia (Tara mountain, Poćuta, Mačkat), Southern Serbia (Grebnički bauxite) and in Macedonia and Greece. Deposits are rare and can be large. For research of nuclear and other deposits of mineral resources of Southern Serbia, Rn concentrations in soil in a field dominated by trachyte (upper column), granodiorite (Bujanovac), tuffs (Žbevac) and others, were measured. In the zones of anomalous concentrations of U, Th and K were formed gas scattering halos Rn in the soil, whose value were more than 42 Em in bauxites and in Gornja Stubla trachytes over 200 Em. In accordance with the lithological characteristics of the area, at some locations, Rn concentrations in houses were measured, in order to identify radon risk zones in rural communities. In certain residential buildings of "Gornja Stubla", measured Rn concentrations ranged up to 9000 Bq/L. According to the International Commission on Radiological Protection, the allowed concentration of Rn in the old houses ranged up to 400 Bq/L, and in new houses up to 200 Bq/L. Geo-ecological zones of natural radionuclides influence on the environment of rural settlements, can be determined, using atmogeochemical, geochemical and geophysical researches. Research results are presented with tables, diagrams and atmogeochemical maps of selected locations.
