AB - Crude bio-glycerin is a by-product in the production of biodiesel. An economically efficient valorization of crude bio-glycerin usually significantly defines the profitability of the biodiesel plant. A strong technological development in recent years has provided an additional option for economically viable use of glycerin through conversion of a crude bio-glycerin, in first step into a technical glycerin, and then further by use of new catalytic processes into various 'green chemicals', such as epichlorohydrin, propylene-glycol, bio-methanol, acrolein, acrylic acid, etc. Many of those newly-developed technologies are already in use on an industrial scale. This trend had caused a growth in demand of bio-glycerin, which gradually has led to a rise of bio-glycerin's market value and contributed to an overall growth in profitability of biodiesel industry. This paper has the aim to assess: global availability of the emerging technologies intended for valorization of bio-glycerin via production of commercially attractive 'green chemicals', local and regional availability of bio-glycerin for an economically justifiable production of 'green chemicals', and local and regional potential for marketing of the most viable 'green chemicals'. All market assessments and expected challenges that are stated in this paper took into account a reality that development of the biodiesel industry is still largely influenced by government subsidies and mandates, and also by a price of crude oil.

AB - Modeling of carbon dioxide emissions from motor vehicles is based on the consumption of motor
fuels and normalization of the emission of pollutant derived by combustion of unit volume of fuel, that is, the emission factors. Specifics of Serbian transportation sector and its objective status, together with the development projections, led to the introduction of additional parameter that corrects these emission factors. The model is designed to provide the results in CO2 emission inventories for the period between 2001 and 2025. The model results show a significant annual increase of CO2 emissions in Serbia in the total observed period, from 5.55 Mt to 10.04 Mt, or an annual growth rate of 2.6%. A similar trend was observed in all the neighboring countries.
normiranju emisije ugljen-dioksida dobijenih sagorevanjem jedinične zapremine motornog goriva, to jest emisionih faktora.

AB - This study is based on the application of mathematical methods of statistical analysis that can be used to predict the development of motor fuel consumption in the Republic of Serbia. It is based on the linear dependence of consumption growth of motor fuel from the development of gross domestic product per capita, which is then corrected by introducing five additional influencing parameters. The model results indicate that the total consumption of motor fuels in Serbia from 2010 to 2025 will be increased by 26.5%. Individual consumption of motor fuels shows different market tendencies. Diesel fuel consumption expects to continue intensive growth to 2025, even though slightly slower than the achievements in the last decade. The current trend of declining demand for gasoline will be stopped from 2015-2016, then followed by slow growth of demand by 2025. Consumption of liquefied petroleum gasses (LPG) will enter the phase of saturation in 2015.

abstract = "This study is based on the application of mathematical methods of statistical analysis that can be used to predict the development of motor fuel consumption in the Republic of Serbia. Consumption of liquefied petroleum gasses (LPG) will enter the phase of saturation in 2015., Ovaj rad se bazira na primeni metoda matematičke statističke analize koji mogu da posluže za predviđanje razvoja potrošnje motornih goriva u Republici Srbiji. AB - The traditional fossil fuels have several key shortcomings, limited reserves of crude oil and the fact that the process of fossilization takes millions of years, there are also problems related to environmental protection. Substitution with alternative fuels would improve sustainable development, the environment would be less pollutants and lessen international pressure occurred as result of reduced stocks of crude oil. As a potential member of the EU, Serbia will have to apply the EU directives adopted on the issue of substitution of traditional fuels by renewable. However, the real situation of the socio‐economic indicators in Serbia shows
that the adopted dynamic of substitution will not be fully met, at least until 2025. The assessment in this paper is that the volume of the substitution of traditional fossil fuels with renewable fuels in Serbia will be about 2.5% by 2015, 5% by 2020 and about 10% by 2025. Which would mean consumption about 50 kt, 118 kt and 277 kt of renewable fuels in 2015, 2020 and 2025, respectively. When it takes into account the LPG as alternative fuel, the total consumption of all alternative fuels will amount to 495 Kt, 566 Kt and 727 Kt, in 2015, 2020 and 2025, respectively.

AB - The economic activity of plastics production and processing is officially classified into two branches of the industry – Production of Chemicals and Chemical Products (namely, the production of polymers, elastomers, synthetic and acrylic resins) and Production of Rubber and Plastic Products (namely, the production of plastic products). The distinct infrastructural nature of this industrial field is more significant to the Serbian economy than its nominal contribution even though the latter should not be underestimated since its annual turnover is over € 1 billion. A more detailed diagnostic assessment of the status accorded to plastics production and processing has not been done for almost two decades and therefore there is no knowledge about the present potential of this industrial field. It is very difficult to obtain information on the place and type of technology used for the production of some goods, the type and quantities of raw materials used, how much competition exists in the same or related production sectors, the nature and amount of import and export, etc. A comparative analysis of domestic and global market trends is missing and so is an expert forecast about the production and technological progress. It is easy to justify why this information is relevant to national and international players in the plastics business since the lack of a sophisticated database often limits the efficiency of commercialization of our own goods and services as well as the development activities. The previously stated details inspired The Association of Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Rubber and Non-metal Industry within Serbian Chamber of Commerce and The Association of Chemists and Chemical Engineers of Serbia to embark on a joint publication venture – preparing and printing a MONOGRAPH entitled: “PLASTICS PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING IN SERBIA” The MONOGRAPH contains texts providing a wealth of useful information to the branch, which are arranged into the following sections: (1) Production and processing of plastics worldwide and in the EU-27, with predictions of supply, demand, fields of application and technological progress, (2) Production and processing of plastics in the neighboring regions (Central, Southeast and Eastern Europe), with medium-term projections of demand growth, (3) The main directions of innovative activity by application sectors of plastic products (4) History and analysis of the current situation in the Serbian industry of plastics production and processing (5) Reached level of domestic demand with respect to more important polymers and groups of plastic products, (6) Production statistics and foreign trade of Serbia with respect to individual polymers and groups of plastic products (7) Factors determining the future of domestic production and consumption of polymers and plastic products with medium-term projections of demand growth. The second part of the MONOGRAPH includes a comprehensive Catalogue of plastics producers and processors in Serbia (hereinafter: the CATALOGUE) which lists, in a concise and clear manner, all relevant information on 185 enterprises which are engaged in plastics production and/or processing. The main criterion the authors used when selecting the enterprises listed in the CATALOGUE was the annual processed polymer volume of over 100 tpy. However, a few exceptions were made with intent to present the processors which have slightly lower volumes of processing but are of particular importance on the market in terms of whether they produce articles no one else produces or more sophisticated technical plastics. The listing of enterprises included in the CATALOGUE provides the basic data for establishing direct contact (address, phone, fax, e-mail, web address, name and surname of the owner and/or manager) and the latest available data on the number of employed persons. With every plastics processor the present processing technologies are noted down in addition to all important items from the production assortment. Alongside every participant the basic raw materials used in production and processing are noted down. In the case of polymer producers, production capacity is dimensioned and in the case of plastics processors, the annual volumes of processed polymers are noted down (in terms of average levels over the last years). Reached level of quality and other production and business functions management is noted down for the majority of participants together with ISO and other world recognised certificates which the enterprise has been awarded. Apart from the representation of enterprises, some further information, estimated as possibly significant or at least interesting for the future CATALOGUE users, was added. The comprehensiveness of laid out data was, quite expectedly, dependent on the readiness of enterprises to share them with the authors. All the above-mentioned information is turned into individual presentations of enterprises arranged alphabetically together with texts in Serbian and English side by side with an aim of creating a useful database for foreign users as well. Listing all the advantages of having such a comprehensive material to persons in any type of contact with the plastics industry is deemed unnecessary. Let us only mention the benefits of the data provided by the CATALOGUE which is, in a way, the key part of the MONOGRAPH. First and foremost, it helps domestic plastics manufacturers gain some insight into what other processors in the country are doing. Therefore, they are able to choose new production programmes more easily because they do not opt for something already covered by domestic supply and at the very least, they are provided with a solid foundation for analyzing the output market of some new development programme. The producers of raw materials and equipment can more easily identify a potential client among domestic plastics manufacturers. Trade companies, buyers of plastic end products or semi-finished plastic products will find the goods they demand or want to obtain more easily. State institutions get a better insight into a reached stage in the development of this production field in Serbia and its long-term growth potential. They are provided with the foundation for promoting the possibilities of Serbian plastics producers and processors abroad and for acting as intermediaries in bringing foreign partners that wish to cooperate with our factories. Foreign partners, already present on the Serbian market and some new ones, who are possibly interested, will get better insight into the domestic supply so that they can better place their products on our market as well as undertake common production and business ventures designed for meeting the demands of the domestic market and/or for export. We are convinced that the MONOGRAPH with the CATALOGUE meets the current demands of Serbia that the domestic industry of plastics production and processing should be properly prepared for the upcoming European integration process. On behalf of the co-editors we express our deep sense of gratitude to the authors of the thematic texts of the MONOGRAPH and to the team that gathered all necessary data, processed and prepared the CATALOGUE for printing and also to all enterprises and institutions that contributed to the release of this publication.

AB - This paper presents a methodology for assessing the impact of exhaust gases from vehicles on
the environment of Serbia for the period 2001-2020. The methodology is based on an estimate of
consumption of petroleum products (motor gasoline, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas) using a
mathematical model that takes into account several parameters, such as: economic growth for
developing countries, the price of crude oil, specific fuel consumption for different types of
vehicles, and the use of alternative fuels, etc. The proposed model was tested for the period
2001-2009 where is obtained correlation factor of 0.92. Based on proposed model the fuel
consumption was calculated for the period 2010-2020. Assessment of pollutant emissions from
vehicles for that period was based on data on the average emission of pollutants from exhaust
gases per unit of fuel used. It was considered those polluting materials covered by the European
emission standards: carbon monoxide, volatile hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and particulate
materials. Based on estimates of pollutant emissions from vehicles in Serbia for the period 2001-
2020, can be said that emission is over the standards that provide by the EU regulations, which
points to the need for solving this problem should give full attention.
naftnih derivata (motorni benzini, dizel gorivo i teþni naftni gas) pomoüu matematiþkog modela
obuhvaüene Evropskim emisionim standardima: ugljen monoksid, isparljivi ugljovodonici, azotni
oksidi i þestiþne materije.

AB - Development of petrochemical industry in Serbia has started in the early 70s of the last century. By disintegration of Yugoslavia the dimension of 'domestic' market for petrochemicals was first drastically reduced, what was followed by new 'strikes' in a row (UN sanctions, NATO bombing campaign and unprofessional implementation of the privatization process) so that the Serbian petrochemical industry found itself in great problems. Nowadays, a number of factories that had manufactured petrochemicals are in the bankruptcy with process plants out of function, and some plants for the production of petrochemical derivatives are sold abroad or even cut and finished as scrap. Factories that have survived are struggling with huge problems, and this applies particularly to those that produce the high-volume base petrochemicals. The paper analyzes the internal and external factors that led to the current critical situation in which there is Serbian petrochemistry, and proposed some measures that could contribute to the recovery of this very important industrial sector. Particular emphasis is placed on revitalization of existing manufacturing facilities and construction of new plants for the production of higher-order derivatives, which are products easier and more economical to sell. Investments to achieve these development goals, in contrast to widespread opinion, need not be high.

AB - Natural gas is a primary energy resource with the indicated highest annual growth of global demand and consumption in all recent forecasts. The chemical industry is a leading non-seasonal consumer of natural gas, mainly because it utilizes natural gas both for energy and as a feedstock. Specifically, these major and established gas consumers in chemical industry enjoy worldwide a recognized status of "privileged clients" of gas industry and as such have been granted the most favorable commercial terms. Unfortunately, that is not the case in Serbia. This paper emphasizes the economic logic and rationale of demands of major industrial users regarding harmonization of gas prices with EU standards.
