Application aspects of joint anaphoresis/substrate anodization in production of biocompatible ceramic coatings

AB  - Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) occurs as a cataphoretic deposition – the coating is deposited on the cathode, and anaphoretic deposition – the coating is deposited on the anode. The primary purpose of EPD is to obtain compact and uniform organic/inorganic coatings of the desired thickness and adhesion on metal surfaces by applying an electric field to the particles of coating precursor. EPD basic principles for coatings deposition concerning fundamental explanations and considerations of practical parameters of the process are presented. Cataphoretic deposition has become popular because it can apply organic coatings to complex structures that are otherwise very difficult to coat. These coatings were found to improve the characteristics of the substrate, such as biocompatibility, appearance and resistance to the corrosion processes. The key EPD parameters are composition, pH value and viscosity of deposition medium, as well as zeta potential of the particles, electric field strength, etc. A  special survey is given to the process of anaphoretic deposition, which is relatively new, and its advantages over cataphoretic deposition are discussed. 
Through the process of joint anaphoresis/substrate anodization process, the sur face of the substrate is simultaneously anodized and modified by incorporation 
of the foreign particles into the anodic layer. The coatings of mixed compo sition of better adhesion and corrosion resistance with respect to cataphoretic ally-deposited coatings are obtained as result.
AB  - Електрофоретско таложење (ЕPD) може се јавити као катафоретско таложење – превлака се таложи на катоди, и анафоретскo таложење – превлака се таложи на аноди. Примарна сврха ЕPD је добијање компактних и уједначених органских/неорганских превлака жељене дебљине и адхезије на металне површине применом електричног поља на честице прекурсора превлаке. Приказани су основни принципи ЕPD за наношење превлака који се односе на основна објашњења и разматрања практичних параметара процеса. Катафоретско таложење постало је популарно јер може нанети органске превлаке на сложене структуре на које је иначе веома тешко нанети превлаку. Утврђено је да ове превлаке побољшавају карактеристике подлоге, као што су биокомпатибилност, изглед и отпорност на процесе корозије. Кључни ЕPD параметри су састав, pH вредност и вискозност медијума за таложење, као и зета потенцијал честица, јачина електричног поља, итд. Посебан осврт је усмерен на процес анафоретског таложења, који је релативно нов, и његовим предностима. Расправља се и о катафоретском таложењу. The influence of the voltage on formation and morphology of hydroxyapatite/titanium composite coatings

AB  - This study focused on investigating the effects of voltage and deposition time on the formation and morphology of hydroxyapatite/titanium oxide coatings, which were obtained using an in-situ synthesis process. The coatings were prepared under various voltage conditions and deposition times to analyze their characteristics. To evaluate the morphology of the coatings, optical microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) techniques were employed. Additionally, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was utilized to confirm the presence of hydroxyapatite coatings on the substrate. The results revealed that an increase in voltage led to a more uniform coating. The voltage parameter had a significant impact on the morphology of the initial hydroxyapatite powder, causing the agglomerates to disperse and resulting in smaller particle sizes within the coating. Furthermore, the FTIR analysis provided solid evidence of the presence of hydroxyapatite within the obtained coatings. These findings emphasize the importance of voltage control and deposition time in the in-situ synthesis process for achieving desirable hydroxyapatite/titanium oxide coatings. Understanding the influence of these parameters on coating formation and morphology can contribute to the development of improved techniques for biomedical applications, such as enhanced osseointegration in orthopedic and dental implants.

Study of the effects of active bromine species presence in electrolytic desulfurization of subbituminous coal

AB  - The removal of organic and inorganic sulfur from the Bogovina Basin subbituminous coal by electrochemical redox reactions was performed. The effect of presence of active bromine species on the desulfurization process was monitored. The desulfurization was performed in inorganic acidic solutions that contained different bromide concentrations and in pure acid solution. To 
determine the optimal conditions for the desulfurization process, polarization curves were 
recorded in three different electrolytes: 0.1 M H2SO4, 0.1 M H2SO4 + 0.01 M KBr, and 0.1 M 
H2SO4 + 0.1 M KBr using graphite and dimensionally stable anode (DSA) electrodes as the 
anode, while in all cases stainless steel S31603 electrode was used as cathode. By analyzing the 
results obtained from the polarization curves, 0.1 M H2SO4 and 0.1 M H2SO4 + 0.1 M KBr were 
chosen as the most suitable electrolytes. Also, it was found that the DSA anode showed better 
results in terms of energy efficiency of the process compared to the graphite anode and therefore
it was selected for the coal desulfurization process. It is considered that finely suspended coal 
particles in an electrolyte can behave according to bipolar electrochemistry. Coal was treated 
for 4 hours in two selected electrolytes. The suspension was sampled at different times up to 240 
min from the beginning of the process. Sulfur content in coal was determined by elemental 
analysis. The results showed that the sulfur content decreases faster in the case of the electrolyte 
containing KBr, i.e. that the desulfurization effect is significantly better than in the case of the 
system containing only H2SO4. It can be concluded that active bromine species accelerate the 
desulfurization process and thus improve energy efficiency.

AB  - Titanium and its alloys are widely used in medical devices, orthopedic implants, dental implants, and device components of aerospace industries. It is attractive for having superior room and elevated temperature mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance and low weight. However, titanium and its alloys are not fully applicable replacement in biomedical application. Suitable surface modification of titanium is needed in order to obtain Ti with improved properties. This paper deals with the optimization of the in-situ anodizing/anaphoretic electrodeposition process of hydrothermally synthesized hydroxyapatite (HAp) on Ti substrate for subsequent obtaining of HAp/TiO2 composite coatings without multi-stage pre-treatment and post-treatment of titanium and oxidized titanium surface. Coatings were prepared at constant voltage of 60 V and deposition time of 1 min. The morphology of coatings was investigated using optical microscope and field emission scanning electron microscope. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy measurements were also performed. The coating with optimal properties was obtained by deposition from suspension containing 1.0 M NaOH.

AB  - The main objective of this research is a systematic development of advanced micro/nanostructured materials based on most used metal-oxides for ORR and metal-oxide with extremely low-loading of Pt for comparison. Hybrid composites that were compared are: MnO2, La2O3, LMO and LMO-Pt. The influence of reduced amount of noble metal, as well as single oxide activity toward ORR was analyzed. The complete electrochemical performances of the hybirde materials have been done by means of CV, LSV and EIS.

AB  - The main objective of this research is the development of catalytic materials based on a combination 
of metal-oxides with extremely low-loading of Pt for oxygen reduction reactions (ORR). Materials 
compared were La2O3 with 5 mass% loading of Pt (La2O3-Pt) and La2O3/MnO2 multioxide based 
material with 5 mass% loading of Pt (LMO-Pt). The electrochemical characterization of the catalytic 
materials has been done using cyclic voltametry (CV), linear sweap voltammetry (LSV) and 
galvanostatic electrochemical impedanse spectroscopy (GEIS). It was proven that both synthesized 
catalytic materials were ORR-active. The ORR behavior indicated that La2O3-Pt electrode is 
significantly less active than LMO-Pt. The GEIS results showed that the ORR is complex 
electrochemical reaction, being electrochemically and diffusion controlled. Diffusion is of mixed 
character due to transport of O2 molecule and chemical reaction of oxygen reduction reaction. O2
diffusion is the dominant process for LMO-Pt catalytic materials, while chemical reaction is 
dominant process for La2O3-Pt electrolytic material.

Synthesis of the new lost foam refractory coatings based on talc

AB  - This paper is focused on the preparation procedures, using a talc-based filler, to improve the rheologic properties of the lost foam refractory coatings. Talc, with grain size of 40 .m, was mechanically activated in a vibration mill over the following times: 10, 20 and 30 min. Depending on the time required for the mechanical activation, the change in the filler grain size and shape was analysed along their effects on the talc-filled lost foam coating dispersion ability and stability. In order to characterize the filler, the following methods were used: X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and optic microscopy. The coating composition was tuned by choosing the suitable grain size and shape factor of the activated filler. In addition, different coating components (additives, solvent) were applied to alter the coating generation procedure. It was shown that the application of this type of the lost foam refractory coatings - water-based coatings - have a positive influence on quality of the aluminium alloy castings, which contributes to reducing the cost of cleaning and processing of the castings. Also, alcohol-based refractory coatings with talc-based activated fillers were tested and used to have the castings produced in the sand moulds.
AB  - Истраживање је фокусирано на поступке припреме пуниоца на бази талка у циљу побољшања реолошких својстава “lost foam” ватросталних премаза. Талк величине зрна од 40 m механички је активиран у вибрационом млину у временима од 10, 20 и 30 min.  У зависности од времена механичке активације, анализирана је промена величине и облика зрна пуниоца заједно са њиховим утицајем на дисперзност и стабилност суспензије премаза. За карактеризацију пуниоца коришћене су следеће методе: рендгенска дифракциона анализа, скенинг електронска и оптичка микорскопија. Испитиван је утицај састава премаза избором подесне величине и облика зрна активираног пуниоца на квалитет премаза. Осим тога, примењене су различите компоненте премаза и измењен је поступак израде премаза. Показано је да је примена ове врсте “lost foam” ватросталних премаза на воденој основи имала позитиван утицај на квалитет одливака од легура алуминијума. Такође, тестирани су ватростални премази на бази алкохола са активираним пуниоцем на бази талка који су коришћени за ливење одливака у калупе од песка.

AB  - Supstituisani estri 1,4-dihidropiridina (1,4-DHP) nastaju u reakciji etil-acetoacetata i odgovarajućih supstituisanih aldehida u prisustvu amonijaka. Nastali estri sa primarnim aminima formiraju amide. Serija amida nastalih od navednih jedinjenja je sintetisana sa namerom da se ispitaju njihove karakteristike i antioksidativna aktivnost. U ovde prikazanom istraživanju za aminolizu upotrebljen je 2-aminotiazol. Antioksidativna aktivnost je ispitivana DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil-radikal) i ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-etilbenzotiazolin-6-sulfonska kiselina)) metodama, a pored toga određene su tačke topljenje, snimljeni IR spektri i izvršena je elementalna analiza.
AB  - The substituted esters of 1,4-dihydropyirdines (1,4-DHP) are formed in the reaction of ethyl acetoacetate and corresponding substituted aldehydes in the presence of ammonia. Amides form from esters of substituted 1,4-DHP by aminolysis employing primary amines. A series of amides of the mentioned compounds was synthesized with the aim to analyze their chemical properties and antioxidative activity. The amine used in the present research was 2-aminothiazole. The antioxidative activity was determined by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical) and ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) methods; melting points and IR were measured and elemental analysis was performed.

AB  - Izvršena je sinteza četiri 1,3-dihidro-3-[4-supstituisanih-(fenilmetil)imino]-2H-indol-2-ona i to: 1,3-dihidro-3-[(fenilmetil)imino]-2H-indol-2-ona, 1,3-dihidro-3-[4-brom-(fenilmetil)imino]-2H-indol-2-ona, 1,3-dihidro-3-[4-hidroksi-(fenilmetil) imino]-2H-indol-2-ona, 1,3-dihidro-3-[4-metoksi-(fenilmetil)imino]-2H-indol-2-ona, kao i jedinjenja slične strukture, 1,3-dihidro-3-[(2-feniletil)imino]-2H-indol-2-ona. Urađena je karakterizacija sintetisanih jedinjenja primenom FTIR spektroskopije, određivanjem temperature topljenja i elementalnom analizom, nakon čega je izvršeno ispitivanje antioksidativne aktivnosti svih pet jedinjenja. Antioksidativna aktivnost je određena primenom DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikril-hidrazil radikal) metode, u cilju određivanja najefikasinijeg jedinjenja od značaja za dalje istraživanje.
AB  - The synthesis of 1,3-dihydro-3-[4-substituted-(phenylmethyl)imino]-2H-indole-2-ones: 1,3-dihydro-3-[(phenylmethyl)imino]-2H-indol-2-one, 1,3-dihydro-3-[4-bromo-(phenylmethyl)imino]-2H-indol-2-one, 1,3-dihydro-3-[4-hydroxy-phenyl-methyl)imino]-2H-indol-2-one, 1,3-dihydro-3-[4-methoxy-(phenylmethyl)imino]-2H-indol-2-one, as well as of the compound of similar structure, 1,3-dihydro-3-[(2-phenylethyl)imino]-2H-indol-2-one, was performed. The characterization of the obtained five compounds was carried out using FTIR, melting points and elemental analysis. Their antioxydative activity was then tested by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical) method and the results were compared in order to determine the most efficient compound, significant for further research.

A novel approach for the study of the kinetics of sol-gel synthesis of titanium dioxide nanoparticles as catalyst support

AB  - Owing to a wide range of application in kinetics (photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, etc.), it is of high importance to define in details corelation between structure and synthesis of TiO2 particles. The aim is to elucidate the kinetics of TiO2 solid phase formation by sol-gel approach as newly-structured suitable carrier of batteries/fuel cells electrocatalytic materials. TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized from TiCl3 precursor under different conditions (concentration, pH) in an aqueous medium. Formation of a new solid phase was continuously monitored by a dynamic conductometric measurements induced by high frequency impedance sinusoidal voltage perturbations of a conductometric cell. The particle size distributions of the obtained TiO2 sols were characterized by the dynamic light scattering method, while the microstructure data were obtained by the scanning electron microscopy. The typical change of high frequency impedance during TiO2 synthesis is presented in Figure 1. It was found that the process proceeds through at least five phases (I–V, Figure 1, seen as high frequency impedance decrease) of different rates and durability, which depend on synthesis conditions.
