AB - Polyurethane (PU) nanocomposite materials, offer very desirable advantages over pure PU materials,as the nanocomposites have enhanced thermal, surface, mechanical and biological properties. The main goal of this study was to develop a new kind of novel nanocomposites consisting of crosslinked PUs (based on poly(dimetylsiloxane) and hyperbranched polyester) and ferrite nanoparticles (based on copper and zinc) for possible application as coatings on biomedical devices and implants. A series of PU/ferrite nanocomposites was prepared by in situ polymerization in solution. Characterization of prepared nanocomposites nanocomposites was conducted by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Copper and zinc releases were investigated by microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometry (MP-AES). Characteristics of the prepared nanocomposites when in contact with a biological environment were examined through testing their biocompatibility, and adhesion of fibroblast cells. The presence of the nanoferrite nanoparticles influenced on surface and biological properties of PU nanocomposites. The prepared PU nanocomposites with noncytotoxic chemistry could be used as promising materials for vascular implants development.

AB - In the present study, statistical correlation analysis and multivariate statistical techniques (PCA/FA) were employed to investigate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sediments, such as illite-montmorillonite (IM) and calcite (Ct), from two sedimentary environments of the Tertiary Krepoljin brown coal basin in Serbia. The coal and sediment layers were formed in fresh-water bogs during the Lower Miocene period. The total amount of extractable PAHs was determined by gas chromatography with a triple quad mass detector (GC-MS-MS), and it ranged from 449 to 10585 μg l−1 in all sediments. Eight of the total 16 PAHs, which ranged from 175.17 to 658.42 μg l−1, include benzo[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, benzo[a]pyrene, dibenzo[a,h]anthracene, benzo[g,h,i]perylene, and indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene, which are regarded as potentially carcinogenic, indicating a higher possibility of adverse ecological effects. Medium molecular-weight (MMW) PAHs were found to be predominant in all sediments. PAH concentrations are affected by several factors, such as carbon content, H/C mole ratio, and (less significant) O/C mole ratio. The non-existence of a correlation between the N/C ratio and other parameters indicates unspecific changes which accompany the original organic matter. The lower-sulfur Ct sediment samples were found to have a higher PAH content than higher sulfur IM samples, leading to the conclusion that the PAH content of sediments may be related to the depositional environment.
Осум од вкупно 16 PAHs рангирани од 175,17 до 658,42 μg l−1 содржат бензо[a]антрацен, хризен, бензо[b]флуорантен, бензо[k]флуорантен, бензо[a]пирен, дибензо[a,h] антрацен, бензо[g,h,i]перилен и индено[1,2,3-cd]пирен; Сите тие се сметаат за потенцијално канцерогени, укажувајќи на поголема веројатност за настанување несакани еколошки ефекти.

AB - The aim of this study was to investigate, analyze,
and compare applied techniques suitable for achieving
efficient removal of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs)
(malathion and fenitrothion) from aqueous solutions and
analyze the degradation products and processes. Pesticide
degradation efficiency (%) was monitored by highperformance
liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipped
with a photodiode array detector (DAD), while mineralization
degree was determined by total organic carbon analysis
(TOC). Daphnia magna was used for screening the environmental
safety aspects of the degradation methods, i.e.,
for assessing the toxicity of solutions obtained after degradation.
Additionally, a surface river water was utilized to
examine the likely influence of organic matter on the
pesticides’ degradation. Pesticide degradation products
were identified using gas chromatography with a triple
quadrupole mass detector (GC-MS/MS) as well as
ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with
a linear ion trap, Orbitrap mass spectrometer (UHPLCLTQ
Orbitrap MS), and a simple pesticide degradation
mechanism is proposed. Removal of pesticides from water
using chlorine dioxide was successful, resulting in high
degradation efficiency (98% for malathion and 81% for
fenitrothion). Partial mineralization was achieved, and
Daphnia magna mortality decreased in the waters containing
degradation products (compared with the parent pesticides),
indicating that the solutions formed were less toxic
than the parent pesticides. Lower degradation rates (80%
formalathion and 72% for fenitrothion) in Sava Riverwater
were measured, indicating the influence of the organic
matter contained in this naturally occurring surface water.
The results prove that chlorine dioxide could be used as an
agent for successful removal of these OPPs from water.

were studied and compared after chlorine dioxide treatment. Degradation efficiency was determined

degradation of bentazone was proposed based on the degradation products that were
identified. Decrease in D. magna mortality, high degradation efficiency and partial bentazone mineralization
were achieved by waters containing bentazone degradation products, which indicate
the formation of less toxic compounds than the parent bentazone and effective removal of bentazone
from the waters. Bentazone degraded into four main degradation products. Humic acid from
Sava River water influenced bentazone degradation, resulting in a lower degradation efficiency in
this matrix (about 10% lower than in distilled water). Chlorine dioxide treatment of water to
degrade bentazone is efficient and offers a novel approach in the development of new technology
for removal of this herbicide from contaminated water.

AB - The degradation of two sulfonylurea herbicides, nicosulfuron and thifensulfuron methyl in water by chlorine dioxide, was studied for the first time in this paper. In order to examine the optimal parameters for degradation of both herbicides, degradation was investigated under light or dark conditions with different amount of chlorine dioxide, different degradation periods, and at different pH values. Degradation efficiency of herbicides was monitored using high-performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection (HPLC-DAD). The degradation products were analyzed by gas chromatography with triple quadrupole mass detector (GC-QQQ). Three products were identified after degradation of nicosulfuron and two products after degradation of thifensulfuron methyl. Total organic analysis (TOC) gave insight into some differences in degradation mechanisms and degrees of mineralization after degradation of the herbicides using chlorine dioxide. A simple mechanism of herbicide degradation was proposed. Acute toxicity tests were performed on the products produced after degradation with chlorine dioxide, and the results showed that the degradation products were less toxic than the parent compounds. The findings of the present study are very useful for the treatment of wastewaters contaminated with herbicides.

AB - Novel poly(urethane-ester-siloxane) networks, based on hydroxypropyl terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), 4,4'-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate, and hyperbranched polyesters (HBPs) of the second and third pseudogenerations, were synthesized by two-step polymerization. The effects of the PDMS content and pseudogeneration number of HBPs on the structural, thermomechanical, thermal, and surface properties of polyurethanes were investigated. Thermomechanical and thermal properties of polyurethanes and FTIR, SAXS, and SEM results indicated good microphase separated structure. SAXS data suggested that the difference in the HBP pseudogeneration number affects only the global properties of the structure and is much less pronounced than the dependence on the PDMS content, while local properties depend only on the PDMS content. Surface characterization of samples indicated the slightly amphiphilic nature of polyurethanes. The results revealed that the synthesized polyurethanes have good thermal, thermomechanical, and surface properties, which can be tuned and adjusted for coating application by changing the PDMS content or type of the HBP.

AB - Two series of polyurethane films based on hyperbranched polyester of the second pseudo-generation (Boltorn®), 4,4'-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate and two different siloxane prepolymers, α,ω-dihydroxy-(ethylene oxide-poly(dimethylsiloxane)-ethylene oxide)(EO-PDMS-EO) and α,ω-dihydroxypropyl-poly(dimethylsiloxane) (HP-PDMS), were prepared by two-step polymerization in solution. The influence of the type and content of soft segment on the morphology, thermomechanical and surface properties of the synthesized polyurethanes was studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and water absorption measurements. It was found that these techniques confirmed existence of microphase separated morphology. Synthesized polyurethanes exhibited two glass transition temperatures and one second relaxation process. The results showed that polyurethanes based on HP-PDMS had higher surface roughness, better microphase separation and waterproof performances. Samples synthesized with lower PDMS content had less hydrophobic surface, but higher crosslinking density and better thermomechanical properties.
AB - U ovom radu pripremane su dve serije poliuretanskih filmova na bazi hiperrazgranatog poliestra druge pseudo generacije (Boltron), 4,4¢-metilendifenildiizocijanata i dva različita iloksanska pretpolimera kao što su a, ω-dihidroksi- (etilenoksid-poli(dimetilsiloksan)-etilenoksid)(EO-PDMS-EO) i a,ω-dihidroksipro-pilpoli(dimetilsiloksan)(HP-PDMS), dvostepenom polimerizacijom u rastvoru. Uticaj vrste i sadržaja mekog segmenta na morfologiju, termomehanička i površinska svojstva sintetisanih poliuretana je proučavan pomoću mikroskopije atomske sila (AFM), rasipanja X-zraka pod malim uglovima (SAXS), skenirajuće elektronske mikroskopije (SEM), dinamičko mehaničke termičke analize (DMTA) i merenja količine apsorbovane vode.

abstract = "Two series of polyurethane films based on hyperbranched polyester of the second pseudo-generation (Boltorn®), 4,4'-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate and two different siloxane prepolymers, α,ω-dihydroxy-(ethylene oxide-poly(dimethylsiloxane)-ethylene oxide)(EO-PDMS-EO) and α,ω-dihydroxypropyl-poly(dimethylsiloxane) (HP-PDMS), were prepared by two-step polymerization in solution. Samples synthesized with lower PDMS content had less hydrophobic surface, but higher crosslinking density and better thermomechanical properties., U ovom radu pripremane su dve serije poliuretanskih filmova na bazi hiperrazgranatog poliestra druge pseudo generacije (Boltron), 4,4¢-metilendifenildiizocijanata i dva različita iloksanska pretpolimera kao što su a, ω-dihidroksi- (etilenoksid-poli(dimetilsiloksan)-etilenoksid)(EO-PDMS-EO) i a,ω-dihidroksipro-pilpoli(dimetilsiloksan)(HP-PDMS), dvostepenom polimerizacijom u rastvoru. AB - A series of novel polyurethane crosslinked structures (PUs) was prepared from α,ω-dihydroxy-(ethylene oxide-poly(dimethylsiloxane)-ethylene oxide) (EO-PDMS-EO), 4,4'-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate and Boltorn ® hyperbranched polyester of the third pseudo generation. The hydroxyfunctional hyperbranched aliphatic polyester with 26 end groups was used as a crosslinking agent. In order to improve the compatibility of all the reactants during the synthesis, the PU samples were prepared by two-stage, step-growth polymerization in solution. The content of the soft EO-PDMS-EO segments was varied in the range from 15 to 40 wt. %. The influence of the EO-PDMS-EO content on the swelling behavior, crosslink density, hardness, and the thermal and surface properties of the synthesized PUs was investigated. The structure of the synthesized polyurethanes was confirmed by the presence of specific bands in the Fourier transform infrared spectra. Swelling studies were performed to determine the crosslink density and polyurethane networks with lower EO-PDMS-EO contents had higher crosslink densities. The glass transition temperature of the synthesized PUs, determined by differential scanning calorimetry, slightly increased from 50 to 58°C on decreasing the EO-PDMS-EO content because of the higher crosslink density of the samples. Increasing the EO-PDMS-EO content led to better thermal stability, as was evidenced by the onset temperature of weight loss. The surface of the polyurethane networks became more hydrophobic with increasing EO-PDMS-EO content. The surface morphology of synthesized polyurethanes was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy.

AB - Novel polyurethanes (PUs) were synthesized using hydroxy-terminated hyperbranched polyester (BH-20) and 4,4'-methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) as hard segments and hydroxy-terminated ethylene oxide-poly(dimethylsiloxane)-ethylene oxide triblock copolymer (PDMS-EO) as soft segment, with soft segment content ranging from 30 to 60 wt %. The PUs were synthesized by two-step solution polymerization method. The influence of the soft segment content on the structure, swelling behavior and thermal properties of PUs was investigated. According to the results obtained by swelling measurements, the increase of the hard segment content resulted in the increase of the crosslinking density of synthesized samples. DSC results showed that the glass transition temperatures increase from 36 to 65A degrees C with increasing hard segment content. It was demonstrated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) that thermal stability of investigated PUs increases with increase of the soft PDMS-EO content. This was concluded from the temperatures corresponding to the 10 wt % loss, which represents the beginning of thermal degradation of samples.
