AB - This paper is focused on the preparation procedures, using a talc-based filler, to improve the rheologic properties of the lost foam refractory coatings. Talc, with grain size of 40 .m, was mechanically activated in a vibration mill over the following times: 10, 20 and 30 min. Depending on the time required for the mechanical activation, the change in the filler grain size and shape was analysed along their effects on the talc-filled lost foam coating dispersion ability and stability. In order to characterize the filler, the following methods were used: X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and optic microscopy. The coating composition was tuned by choosing the suitable grain size and shape factor of the activated filler. In addition, different coating components (additives, solvent) were applied to alter the coating generation procedure. It was shown that the application of this type of the lost foam refractory coatings - water-based coatings - have a positive influence on quality of the aluminium alloy castings, which contributes to reducing the cost of cleaning and processing of the castings. Also, alcohol-based refractory coatings with talc-based activated fillers were tested and used to have the castings produced in the sand moulds.

AB - Supstituisani estri 1,4-dihidropiridina (1,4-DHP) nastaju u reakciji etil-acetoacetata i odgovarajućih supstituisanih aldehida u prisustvu amonijaka.
AB - The substituted esters of 1,4-dihydropyirdines (1,4-DHP) are formed in the reaction of ethyl acetoacetate and corresponding substituted aldehydes in the presence of ammonia. Amides form from esters of substituted 1,4-DHP by aminolysis employing primary amines. A series of amides of the mentioned compounds was synthesized with the aim to analyze their chemical properties and antioxidative activity. The amine used in the present research was 2-aminothiazole. The antioxidative activity was determined by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical) and ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) methods; melting points and IR were measured and elemental analysis was performed.

AB - Esomeprazole is the most effective of the proton-pump inhibitors for the acid-related diseases and at first was examined for the electroanalytical purposes. The drug standard and as a content of injection powder was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and quantitatively determined using square wave voltammetry (SWV) via its electrooxidation at Au electrode in 0.05 M NaHCO3. SWV showed a linear dependency of the anodic peak currents vs. esomeprazole standard concentrations in the range from 3.0 to 500 μg mL−1 with the values of limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ): 1.4 and 4.6 μg mL−1, respectively. Using the constructed and validated calibration curve, the values of unknown esomeprazole concentrations in injection powder and in human serum spiked with standard were determined. Before the electrochemical oxidation, it was shown by atomic force microscopy (AFM) that the small esomeprazole islands formed inside holes were visible and their diameter was about 200 nm attributed to physico-chemical characteristics of esomeprazole. After the electrochemical oxidation, the morphology of esomeprazole standard on Au surface was completely changed and composed of spherical particles in a diameter between 200 and 600 nm. With esomeprazole suspended in human serum, the process of crystallization partly occurred in the form of spherical grains with the average size of these grains was about 4 μm. The analysis at the macro level done by the optical microscopy (OM) confirmed this opinion. The study of esomeprazole degradation showed that at Au electrode, after 3 h of cycling, a neglectable amount of the esomeprazole was changed. Using IrOx electrode under directed stress conditions, its almost complete degradation was realized after 3 h confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis showed that 95% of esomeprazole was mineralized. The HPLC and Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) study revealed the formation of 4-hydroxy omeprazole sulphide, 4-hydroxy omeprazole sulphone, esomeprazole sulphone and methylated esomeprazole.

The HPLC and Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) study revealed the formation of 4-hydroxy omeprazole sulphide, 4-hydroxy omeprazole sulphone, esomeprazole sulphone and methylated esomeprazole.",

AB - The multistage synthesis of the multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) modified with polyamidoamine dendrimers, A1/and A2/MWCNT, capable of cation removal, is presented in this work, as well as novel adsorbents based on these precursor materials and modified with goethite nano-deposit, alpha-FeOOH, A1/ and A2/MWCNT-alpha-FeO(OH) adsorbents used for As(V) removal. In a batch test, the influence of pH, contact time, initial ion concentration and temperature on adsorption efficiency were studied. Adsorption data modelling by the Langmuir isotherm, revealed good adsorption capacities (in mg g(-1)) of 18.8 for As(V) and 60.1 and 44.2 for Pb2+ and Cd2+ on A2/MWCNT, respectively. Also, 27.6 and 29.8 mg g(-1) of As(V) on A1/ and A2/MWCNT-alpha-FeO(OH), respectively, were removed. Thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic processes. Results of the study of influences of competitive ions: bicarbonate, sulfate, phosphate, silicate, chromate, fluoride and natural organic matter (NOM), i.e., humic acid (HA), showed the highest effect of phosphate on the decrease of arsenate adsorption. Time-dependent adsorption was best described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Weber-Morris model which predicted intra-particle diffusion as a rate-controlling step. Also, activation energy (E-a/kJ mol(-1)): 8.85 for Cd2+, 9.25 for Pb2+ and 7.98 for As(V), were obtained from kinetic data.

AB - Fourteen mono- and bis-carbohydrazone ligands have been synthesized and characterized. Antioxidant activity of the substances was investigated together with possible (E)/(Z) isomerization, and explained on the most active antioxidant compound 4 in various dimethyl sulphoxide-water mixtures. The addition of water to the system was involved in the formation of hydrated molecules which was confirmed in NMR after the addition of D2O. The ligands were tested in vitro against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi, and their activity was discussed in relation to the structure of investigated carbohydrazone.

AB - Handkea utriformis (HU), H. excipuliformis (HE) and Vascellum pratense (VP) mature fruiting bodies methanol extracts were tested for biological activities and active compounds. The extracts showed prominent radical scavenging, reducing, antioxidative and chelating abilities. Scavenging ability was correlated with phenolic (ABTS assay) or phenolic and/or sugar/beta-glucan content (DPPH). Antioxidative and Fe3+-reducing ability of VP extract was the highest, and was best correlated with flavonoid content. The same extract exhibited the best angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory activity. HU and HE showed selectivity toward tumor cell lines in cytotoxicity analysis. The extracts exhibited various antimicrobial activity, the best being against Listeria monocytogenes (HE, MIC-0.625 mg/mL); fatty acid content was particularly high in HU (37.25 mg/g), with linoleic acid making up more than 57% in all samples. Phenolics were present in considerable amount, as well as beta-glucans (HU, 16.67%). Although these mushrooms are inedible after autolysis process, they were still a good source of biologically active products.

AB - One-step simple temperature-controlled microwave synthesis was applied to prepare nanocrystalline RuO2 dispersion from aqueous RuCl3. RuO2 dispersion was subjected to dynamic light scattering in order to analyze the synthesized particles, whereas structural and morphological properties of the solid phase are investigated by AFM, SEM, EDAX and XRD techniques. The ordered unusual shape of ca. 100-nm native particles, as well as highlyordered prismatic agglomerate sheets are observed. Capacitive properties of RuO2 was investigated by cyclic
voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in 1 M H2SO4 and standard three-electrode cell, with ink-type working electrode on glassy carbon substrate A specific capacitances as high as 750 F/g were obtained, which negligibly depend on sweep rate in 5–500 mV/s range. These findings are quite unusual for this kind of material consisted of rather large particles, and makes it excellent candidate for both low and high power applications. The capacitive response appears stable during prolonged charge/discharge cycling.

AB - This study describes the investigation of degradation products of donepezil (DP) using a stability-indicating RP-HPLC method for determination of donepezil, which is a centrally acting reversible acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor. In order to investigate the stability of the drug and formed degradation products, a forced degradation study of the drug sample and finished product under different forced degradation conditions was conducted. Donepezil hydrochloride and donepezil tablets were subjected to stress degradation conditions recommended by the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH). Donepezil hydrochloride solutions were subjected to acid and alkali hydrolysis, chemical oxidation and thermal degradation. Significant degradation was observed under alkali hydrolysis and oxidative degradation conditions. Additional degradation products were observed under the conditions of oxidative degradation. The degradation products observed during forced degradation studies were monitored using the developed high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. The parent method was modified in order to obtain LC-MS compatible method, which was used to identify the degradation products from forced degradation samples using high resolution mass spectrometry. The mass spectrum provided the precise mass from which the molecular formula of the drug substance and formed degradation products was derived, and proved the specificity of the method unambiguously.

AB - The oxidative ability of donepezil, a frequently prescribed drug for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease is reported for the first time at a gold electrode. It was oxidized by cyclic voltammetry and determined by square wave voltammetry in phosphate buffer electrolyte. Electrochemical degradation of donepezil was carried out by long term potential cycling. The identification and characterization of the major product, isolated by preparative high performance liquid chromatography, was performed by high resolution mass spectrometry and 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Donepezil hydroxy derivative was identified as the major electrochemical oxidation product from donepezil.

AB - Ultraviolet absorption spectra of three isomeric pyridinecarboxylic acids (picolinic, nicotinic, and isonicotinic acids) were measured in 18 various solvents, in the wavelength range from 200 to 400 nm. In order to analyze the solvent effect on the obtained absorption maxima, the ultraviolet absorption frequencies of the electronic transitions in the carbonyl group of the examined acids were correlated using a total solvatochromic equation in the forms nu(max) = nu(0) + s pi(*) + a alpha + b beta and nu(max) = nu(0) + s pi(*) + b beta, where nu(max) is the absorption frequency (1/nu(max)), pi(*) is a measure of the solvent polarity, alpha represents a scale of the solvent hydrogen bond donor acidity, and beta represents a scale of the solvent hydrogen bond acceptor basicity. Correlation of the spectroscopic data was carried out by means of multiple linear regression analysis. The effects of two different solvent types on the ultraviolet absorption maxima of the examined acids were compared and discussed.

AB - The ultraviolet absorption spectra of the carboxyl group of three isomeric pyridine carboxylic acids N-oxides (picolinic acid N-oxide, nicotinic acid N-oxide and isonicotinic acid N-oxide) were determined in fourteen solvents in the wavelength range from 200 to 400 nm. The position of the absorption maxima (λmax) of the examined acids showed that the ultraviolet absorption maximum wavelengths of picolinic acid N-oxide are the shortest, and those of isonicotinic acid N-oxide acid are the longest. In order to analyze the solvent effect on the obtained absorption spectra, the ultraviolet absorption frequencies of the electronic transitions in the carboxylic group of the examined acids were correlated using a total solvatochromic equation of the form Vmax = V0 + + Sπ*+ aα+ bβ, where Vmax is the absorption frequency (1/λmax), π*is a measure of the solvent polarity, β represents the scale of solvent hydrogen bond acceptor basicities and α represents the scale of solvent hydrogen bond donor acidities. The correlation of the spectroscopic data was carried out by means of multiple linear regression analysis. The solvent effects on the ultraviolet absorption maximums of the examined acids were discussed.

AB - The determination of clopidogrel, an antiplatelet agent, was performed at a gold electrode in pH 3.7 acetate buffer using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). Each voltammogram was characterized by the well defined peak at approximately 1.0 V. The current of anodic stripping peak exhibited a linear dependence on the clopidogrel concentration in the range from 317.89 to 935.16 μg cm-3. The obtained linearity was applied to determine clopidogrel in the tablet form of the pharmaceutical preparation (Plavix®). The results were compared to the UV spectrophotometric and HPLC methods. .

AB - In this paper, results of the investigation of the polymer materials for evaporate patterns and their application in the new casting method (EPC process) are presented. The basic characteristic of EPC process is that patterns and gating of moulds, made of polymers, stay in the cast till the liquid metal inflow. In contact with liquid metal, intensely, in relatively short time, polymer pattern is been decomposing and evaporating , accompanied by castings crystallization. In order to achieve qualitative and profitable castings production by the EPC process it is necessary to reach the balance in the system: evaporable polymer pattern-liquid metal-refractory coat-sandy cast in the phase of metal inflow, decomposition and evaporation of polymer pattern, formation and soldification of castings. Results of this investigation of this process relate on application of puffed polystyrene of various densities (kg/m3): 18, 20, 25. Application of lower density polymer (20 kg/m3) gave positive results on structure and properties of silumina castings obtained using this casting method.

AB - The main task of the work is to construct the polymeric membrane that could be used for the waste gases treatment. For this purpose, membrane must have high permeability for the carbon dioxide and low permeability of the other gases commonly present in waste gases (hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and methane). The constructed membranes were of a dense type, based on a solubility/diffusivity mechanism. In this paper, feasibility of the application of poly(ethyleneoxid)-copoly(phtalamide) was tested. In order to enchase the permeability of carbon dioxide, four different zeolites were added, and in order to improve mechanical stability two different additives were tested. Three zeolites were with the 3-dimensional pores (ZSM5; Faujasite Linde type A) and one was with the 1-dimensional pores (Linde type L). As an additive, n-tetradecyldimethylamonium bromide - n-C14TMABr was tested. The aim of an additive was to provide good wetting of a highly electrically charged zeolite particle by the hydrophobic polymer chains. The other examined additive was dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) which should improve the solubility of carbon dioxide due to its alkali properties. The best results in carbon dioxide/hydrogen selectivity and permeability were obtained with the membrane constructed with PEBAX 1657 and surface treated zeolite.

AB - Submicron carbon spherical particles were obtained by polycondensation of resorcinol and formaldehyde in a solution and subsequent ultrasonic spray pyrolysis of the prepared sol. Microscopic characterization indicates the regular spherical shape of the obtained particles and sphere diameters in 200-700 nm range. The carbon spheres are amorphous as confirmed by electron diffraction, EELS, XRD and HREM characterization. Activation procedure was performed with H2O in a nitrogen flow for 15 and 30 min at 800 degrees C. The activation procedure preserved the initial spherical shapes of the particles while the particle porosity and specific surface area were increased. The amount of surface oxygen functionalities was also increased by activation procedure as indicated by FTIR analysis.

AB - Mesoporous titania with well-crystallized anatase phase was synthesized by nonhydrolytic sol-gel process combined with solvothermal treatment. Titanium-isopropoxide, titanium-tetrachloride, and carbon-tetrachloride were used for synthesis under nitrogen atmosphere in a glove box. The obtained mixture was heated in an autoclave at 140 degrees C for 3 h and 30 h. XRD analysis showed that dry gels contained anatase phase with low crystallinity, while powders obtained by calcination of dry gels at 500 degrees C for 3 h consisted of pure anatase with high crystallinity. SEM analysis of dried gels and powders shows agglomerates of spherical particles of the size similar to 300 nm. The TEM micrographs confirmed the nanoscale size of the titania powders, with the primary particle size of about 20 nm. Titania powders exhibit maximum pore diameter of 13.2 nm and 9.5 nm for gelation time 3 h and 30 h, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of such synthesized titania is superior to that of commercial photocatalyst Degussa P-25.

AB - Contamination of groundwater by methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), that is detected in wastewater of petrochemical industry, is an increasing problem to water supply companies. The subjects of this research were the methods of photolytic, photocatalytic and microbiological degradation of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) dissolved in wastewaters. The effects of concentrated solar radiation simulated with sodium lamp (SONT UV 400) have been investigated in laboratory experiments. Our result indicated that bacteria Pseudomonas strain CY, isolated from the kerosene, and added alone, was able to gradually degrade MTBE and to decrease its concentration for 93.6% in 12 h. However, the percentage of photolytic degradation decrease in only 4 h was 99.2%. By adding Pseudomonas strain CY after 4 h of light treatment, the degradation was enhanced to 99.55% in additional 5 h. The photocatalytic process was performed in slurry-catalyst reactor with different concentrations of TiO2 catalyst: 5, 0.5 and 0.25 g/L. The MTBE degradation producing carbon dioxide reached 91% in only 150 min, when 5 g/L of catalyst was used.
