AB - This study explores the significance of density functional theory (DFT) calculations with relativistic effects for two ethylenediaminetetraacetate (edta) type complexes: trans(O5)-[M(eddadp)]- (M = Rh3+, Co3+). Relativistic effects affect the electronic structure of a molecule and, thus, its chemical and spectroscopic properties. With the use of scalar relativistic corrections (SR-ZORA), as implemented in the ADF package, with the B3LYP functional, the TZP basis set and the COSMO solvation model, structural analyses show improved predictions for the geometries of both complexes. In the case of the Rh3+ complex, the differences in metal-ligand bond lengths with and without the relativistic effects were small. In the case of the Co3+ complex, the changes in metal-ligand bond lengths due to the relativistic effects were slightly more pronounced. Compared to experimental values, excitation energies are better when including relativistic corrections, especially for the Rh3+ complex. These results indicate the importance of relativistic DFT calculations for heavy element compounds.

AB - Only one (trans(O5)-Na[Rh(ED3AP)]∙3H2O) of possible two isomers was synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis, IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. Computational analysis of both isomers was performed with three levels of theory (B3LYP/TZV, BP86/TZV, OPBE/TZV), which gave consistent results. The more stable isomer by total energy and ligand field stabilization energy (LFSE) was trans(O5) which appeared in synthesis. The calculation of excited state energies complied with UV–Vis spectra, especially with OPBE functional. The results of excited state energy pointed out the differences among isomers in means of a splitting pattern of 1T2g excited state term. Both isomers have a strongly delocalized structure, according to the natural bonding orbital (NBO) analysis. NBO analysis shows that the trans(O5) isomer is more stable than trans(O5O6) for approx. 87 kJ/mol. Therefore, only the trans(O5) isomer is present in the reaction mixture.

AB - The growing need to protect the environment and reuse abandoned raw materials is increasingly used in the construction industry to make in addition to cementitious materials and geopolymer materials. Geopolymers are alkali-activated materials, in which the starting material is mainly some residual material such as: clay, fly ash, slag or red sludge [1,2]. There is growing need to create new binders which can replace portland cement and geopolymer materials are increasingly being used for this purpose. For geopolymerization reaction process high concentration basic solution with alkaline activators are adding and the process itself leads to modifications of the structures of the starting raw materials [1]. Due to growing needs to improve mechanical properties of geopolymer binders, different calcium sources can be added and one of them is brushite-dicalcium
phosphate dihydrate [3]. The aim of this paper is synthesis and characterization of Brushite-metakaolin-based geopolymer material samples, with different percentages of pure Brushite material added. Brushite, was obtained by solution precipitation reaction from appropriate acetate salts solution, by green chemistry process. Raw kaolinite clay from the Rudovci deposit (Serbia) was used as Al and Si source for geopolymer binder production. Kaolinite was thermally treated at 750°C for three hours, to produce metakaolin and remove residual organic matter. In order to investigate the influence of calcium phosphate compound on mechanical and microstructural
properties geopolymer material samples were synthesized using metakaolin mixed with activator solution prepared from sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide (6M) in relation 1,6 with addition of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, of pure brushite. Phase, structural, and microstructural characterisation were preformed in a mening of XRPD and SEM analysis. Difference between diffractograms of starting materials and Brushite-metakolin analogues indicates that geopolymerization process was successful in all samples. DRIFT technique was used to obtain characteristic vibrations of functional groups in obtained materials. The compressive strenghts of geopolymer binders containing brushite were in a range of 15-55 Mpa. The the highest hardness was achieved by a geopolymer with 10% of brushite.

AB - A new hexadentate chromium(III) complex, Na[Cr(1,3-pd3ap)]center dot 3H(2)O, containing an unsymmetrical edta-type ligand, the 1,3-propanediamine-N,N,N'-triacetate-N'-3-propionate ion (1,3-pd3ap), has been prepared, chromatographically separated and characterized. Only one [trans(O-5)] of the two possible geometrical isomers was isolated. In this isomer the two five-membered glycinate rings (R rings) occupy trans-axial sites, while the one glycinate ring and one beta-alaninate ring lie in the equatorial plane with the two diamine nitrogens (G rings). This result confirms the assignment made on the basis of Density Functional Theory (OFT), IR and UV-Vis spectral data analyses. The spectral data and electronic transition assignment, DFT-NBO, Ligand Field DFT and extensive strain analysis are discussed by a comparison with those of other [Cr(edta-type)](-) complexes of known configurations. The stoichiometry and stability of the complexes formed between the chromium(III) ion and 1,3-propanediamine-N,N,N'-triacetic-N'-propionic acid (H(4)1,3-pd3ap) were determined in aqueous solution by potentiometry at 25 degrees C and 0.1 M NaCl ionic strength. The existence of Cr(HnL), n = 0,1, 2 and 3 type complexes were verified. The formation of the Cr(OH)L complex was observed at higher pH values. The concentration distribution diagrams of the complexes were evaluated.
