Corroded medieval iron nail from the Studenica Monastery - Material analysis and laser cleaning

AB  - In this paper, the state of an archaeological artefact (iron nail) originating from the Studenica Monastery (Serbia) has been presented as well as the possibility of laser cleaning its corrosion layers. To determine the presence of cracks and other defects in the sample, the digital radiographic method was used. The composition of the artefact was analysed by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF) and energy-dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX). The corrosion products were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray Pho- toelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Raman Spectroscopy, and EDX microanalysis. The Nd:YAG laser was used for corrosion cleaning. The morphological modification of the surfaces cleaned by laser was analysed with optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The test results showed that the cleaning of thick corro- sion deposits with a laser is difficult and very expensive. Therefore, it is necessary to combine mechanical or chemical methods with lasers.

AB  - Женска огрлица, филигран са непожељном патином, чишћена је Nd:YAG  ласером. Током експеримента варирани су параметри ласера: таласна дужина, флуенца и број импулса, односно време озрачавања. Испитиван је утицај наведених фактора на ефикасност ласерског чишћења патине. Састав материјала огрлице је одређен XRF методом. Морфолошке промене на површини огрлице су испитиване оптичком микроскопијом. Резултати испитивања су показали да је најефикасније чишћење постигнуто када је примењена таласна дужина ласера од 1064 nm. Утврђено је да за наведени предмет и при примени оптималне таласне дужине, већи утицај на ефикасност ласерског чишћења има избор флуенце, а мањи утицај број ласерских импулса.
AB  - Women's necklace-filigree with patina, of unknown age, owned by a private collection was cleaned with a Nd:YAG laser. Laser parameters were varied during the experiment; wavelength, fluence and number of pulses, ie irradiation time. The influence of the mentioned factors on the efficiency of laser cleaning of the patina was investigated. The ablation results were examined by optical microscopy. The test results showed that the most efficient cleaning is with λ = 1064 nm. The choice of fluence has the greatest influence on the efficiency of laser cleaning, for the mentioned subject, and the influence of the number of laser pulses has a smaller influence.

AB  - Хеуристичке процене дају пресудни допринос у заштити културног наслеђа, због специфичности предмета истраживања, који, по правилу, захтева ограничено узорковање, као и недеструктивно деловање на материјал. За неопходну високу деликатност у интерпретацији експерименталних резултата, хеуристичка процена са својим кумулативним ефектима, који су посебно значајни у верификацији резултата, својеврсни је оператор неинструменталног моделовања процеса ласерског чишћења, којим се у задатој временској ограничености омогућава темпорална екстензија у домену евалуације. У овом раду, у фокусу је научно питање концептуализације хеуристичке процене у ласерском чишћењу папира, која, када се има у виду фрагилност материјала и изразита вулнерабилност, има посебно специфичан значај.

AB  - Temperature  distribution  induced  by  laser  radiation  is  a  very  important 
parameter for an efficient and safe application of lasers in different ceramic 
processing  techniques.  This  paper  presents  the  results  of  an  infrared 
thermography (IRT) application for monitoring temperature distribution on 
a ceramic surface during Nd: YAG laser irradiation with different fluences 
and 8ns pulse duration. FLIR, E40 and SC7200 IR cameras were used with 
the  aim  of  recording  the  maximum  temperature  in  the  irradiated  zones.  It 
was  expected  that  IRT  could  give  some  information  related  to  the  heat 
affected zone and possible damage to the base material; however, the results 
have  shown  that  IR  cameras,  even  those  with  high  performance  such  as 
SC7200,  cannot  record  the  maximum  temperature  value  at  the  moment  of 
laser  operation,  but  only  the  average  temperature  of  the  bulk  sample 
material  after  laser  pulses.  The  results  of  the  numerical  simulation  have 
confirmed the value of the thermographic measurements. The microstructure 
and  micromorphology  of  the  ceramic  surface  before  and  after  the  laser 
treatment  were  analysed  by  optical  and  scanning  electron  microscopy  as 
well  as  by  examining  the  roughness  of  the  irradiated  and  non-  irradiated 
surfaces,  while  the  micromechanical  changes  were  analysed  by  comparing 
the micro-hardness of the irradiated and non-exposed surfaces.

Laser cleaning of varnish from bog oak surface

AB  - The removal of varnish is a very challenging task in the conservation of wooden artifacts. The results of experiments performed to investigate the suitability of lasers for cleaning aged varnish from bog oak wood (ebony) are presented in this paper. Optimal laser parameters for safe and efficient varnish ablation were determined in order to preserve the integrity of the original wooden substrate during the cleaning process. The ablation threshold for varnish and wood damage threshold was examined using Nd:YAG laser (1064, 532 and 355 nm) emitting pulses of nanosecond (8 ns) duration. Results of induced varnish removal and other morphological alterations to the wood surface were investigated by optical microscopy and colorimetry.

The results of experiments performed to investigate the suitability of lasers for cleaning aged varnish from bog oak wood (ebony) are presented in this paper. Optimal laser parameters for safe and efficient varnish ablation were determined in order to preserve the integrity of the original wooden substrate during the cleaning process. The ablation threshold for varnish and wood damage threshold was examined using Nd:YAG laser (1064, 532 and 355 nm) emitting pulses of nanosecond (8 ns) duration. Results of induced varnish removal and other morphological alterations to the wood surface were investigated by optical microscopy and colorimetry.",

distribution on a ceramic surface during Nd: YAG laser irradiation. The laser operated in the Q-switch mode with λ= 
1064 nm. The duration of a pulse was τ = 8 ns. The repetition rate was f  l = 1-20 Hz. FLIR, E40 and SC7200 IR cameras 
were used. Recording  of the  maximum  temperature  in  the  irradiated  zones is very important  information  related  
to  the damage threshold of materials.  The tested sample is a piece of a ceramic tile. A large number of factors affect 
determination of the maximum temperature in the very fast processes as it is irradiation with laser pulse duration of 8 
ns.  One of them is the camera integration time. The experimental results have  shown  that  IR  cameras,  even  those  
with  high  performance  such  as SC7200,  cannot  record  the  maximum  temperature  value  at  the  moment  of laser  
operation,  but  only  the  average  temperature  of  the  bulk  sample material  after  laser  pulses.   The microstructure 
and  micromorphology  of  the  ceramic  surface  after  the  laser treatment  were  analyzed  by  optical  and  scanning  
electron  microscopy.

AB  - The  modern  military  industry  demands  the  most  innovative  and  high-quality  metals  and  alloys,  as  well  as 
processing technologies. Iron and its alloys are a common material used for different types of weapons and military 
equipment. Lasers have been widely used in the metal surface processing, but the changes that occur on laser treated metal 
surfaces have not yet been sufficiently investigated. A study of morphological and chemical changes on the metal surface 
induced by Nd:YAG laser treatment in ambient air is presented. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm, Gaussian spatial profile, 
FWHM  8 ns, energy up to 525 mJ, beam diameter of 1-10 mm and fluence up to 3.5 J/cm
2
) was used.  Micro-morphological 
analyses of sample surfaces before and after laser treatment process were performed by optical and SEM microscopies. 
EDX method was used for chemical analyses and Spectra colorimeter for investigation of induced color changes. The laser 
irradiation effects were studied as a function of two laser parameters, number of laser pulses and laser fluencies, around 
and over the damage threshold. The results show that there are significant differences depending on these laser parameters.

AB  - Nd:YAG laser was used for cleaning surfaces of cultural heritage iron artefacts covered with
corrosion products. The corrosion products were removed without damaging the base material.
Three different electrochemical techniques were used for the determination of the corrosion rate of
mechanically prepared iron, laser-cleaned iron and laser-cleaned iron with Paraloid B44 coating.
The morphology of the tested surfaces was analysed by SEM. The linear polarization resistance
technique, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and linear sweep voltammetry have shown
that the corrosion rate of the laser-cleaned iron is approximately 50 % higher than the corrosion
rate of the mechanically prepared iron. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy has shown that
the pore resistance of the Paraloid coating on the laser-cleaned iron sample decreases at the
beginning of the test and remains approximately constant after this period. At the beginning of the
test, the charge transfer resistance value is constant and then decreases rapidly i.e. the corrosion
rate of the iron in the Paraloid coating pores increases with time. During the linear sweep
voltammetry test of the iron sample with Paraloid coating, it was noticed that the anodic
polarisation curve shows an unusual shape at the potentials more positive than - 0.5 V
AB  - U ovom radu, Nd:YAG laser je korišćen za čišćenje površina artefakata od gvožđa koji su bili prekriveni korozionim produktima. Korozioni produkti su uklonjeni bez oštećivanja osnovnog materijala. Za određivanje brzine korozije mehanički čišćene površine, laserski čišćene površine i laserski čišćene površine na koju je nakon čišćenja nanesen zaštitni sloj Paraloid B44, korišćene su tri različite elektrohemijske metode. Morfologija čišćenih površina je ispitivana SEM mikroskopijom. Metoda linearne polarizacione otpornosti, elektrohemijska impedansna spektroskopija i voltametrija sa linearnom promenom potencijala pokazale su da je brzina korozije laserski čišćene površine uzorka od gvožđa za oko 50% veća od brzine korozije mehanički čišćene površine. Laser cleaning of corrosion, efficient and environmentally friendly method

AB  - In recent years, lasers have been used more and more in different areas of human life, science, industry, medicine, military, agriculture, and show business, protection of environmental and culturalheritage objects, in the arts and so on. Laser technology has some advantages in many areas over classical methods. This paper presents the results of laser application for cleaning corrosion of metal objects, cooper and brass. The first sample was oxidised cooper plate and the second ashtray made of brass. Nd: YAG laser was used as a source of radiation to clean surface corrosion deposits. Removal of layers from the surface occurs through the process of laser ablation. Three wavelengths were used with different fluences. The cleaning results, i.e. the morphological and chemical changes were investigated by optical microscopy, XRF analysis and colorimetry. The obtained results show that lasers are efficient corrosion cleaning and environmentally friendly method.

Three different electrochemical techniques were used for the determination of the corrosion rate of mechanically prepared iron, laser-cleaned iron and laser-cleaned iron with Paraloid B44 coating. The morphology of the tested surfaces was analysed by SEM. The linear polarization resistance technique, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and linear sweep voltammetry have shown that the corrosion rate of the laser-cleaned iron is approximately 50 % higher than the corrosion rate of the mechanically prepared iron. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy has shown that the pore resistance of the Paraloid coating on the laser-cleaned iron sample decreases at the beginning of the test and remains approximately constant after this period. At the beginning of the test, the charge transfer resistance value is constant and then decreases rapidly i.e. the corrosion rate of the iron in the Paraloid coating pores increases with time. During the linear sweep voltammetry test of the iron sample with Paraloid coating, it was noticed that the anodic polarisation curve shows an unusual shape at the potentials more positive than - 0.5 V.",

U radu su prikazani rezultati laserskog čišćenja boje na bakarnoj površini i zaštitnog sloja na štampanoj pločici. Kontrola procesa laserskog čišćenja u realnom vremenu je vršena pomoću infracrvene kamere. Mikromorfološke promene čišćene površine su ispitivani optičkom mikroskopijom.

AB  - The investigations of the turbulence in the flow are one of the most expensive, thus the improvement of existing ones and the research related to the new methods are in continual development. The multidisciplinary approach led to the application of the infrared thermography in the turbulent boundary layer observations with the endpoint goal of energy and cost savings in its early stages. This work presents the use of the industrial type infrared thermography for identification of the turbulent zones in the free convective flow, so far the less investigated problem related to convection heat transfer. It was shown that the transient spot temperature difference, measured on the complex geometry of the real-scale coal ventilation mill, of the Thermal plant “Kostolac B”, by an infrared camera, is a good parameter for identification of the most influenced positions by turbulence. The defined fields with maximal transient temperature difference are in accordance with theory and values calculated by numerical simulations for clean geometry, confirming the assumptions. The described method is also convenient for use in cases when the other methods are not applicable because of the complex geometry, unapproachable, or for the other similar reasons. The results from this work would support the more precise measurements with the research type infrared camera, the other methods for measurements.

AB  - Ласерске технике су постале незамењиве у решавању најразличитијих конзерваторских проблема. Последњих тридесетак година користе се у процесу дијагностике стања, у процесу уклањања непожељних слојева, као и у санацији оштећења на предметима културног наслеђа.
Традиционалне методе чишћења у великом броју случајева имају делимичног успеха. Ласерско чишћење показује одређене предности као што су: велику селективност, прецизност, ефикасност и поузданост у примени код различитих врста материјала. Постоје и одређени ризици по предмете чишћења, те су истраживања оптимизације процеса у центру великог броја истраживања.
Суштина техничког решења је подизање степена безбедности ласерског чишћења артефаката непроцењиве вредности интеграцијом инфрацрвене термографије за континуални мониторинг расподеле температуре на површини објекта за време озрачавања ласером. Извршен је велики број експеримената, у примени ове технике када се чишћење врши Nd:YAG ласером, а добијени резултати показују да се применом инфрацрвене термографије могу елиминисати оштећења на основном материјалу, што је од посебног значаја код артефаката сложеног састава.
AB  - Laser techniques have become irreplaceable in solving a wide variety of conservation problems. For the last thirty years, lasers have been used in the diagnostic process, in the process of 
removing undesirable layers, as well as in repairing damages of cultural heritage objects. Because of the complexity of artifacts, traditional cleaning methods in many cases have partial success. Laser cleaning shows certain advantages such as: high selectivity, precision, efficiency and reliability in application in different types of materials. There are also certain risks for cleaning objects, and the studies of process optimization are the subject of a number researches. The essence of the technical solution is to raise the safety level of laser cleaning artifacts of priceless value by integrating infrared thermography for continuous monitoring of the temperature distribution on the surface of the object during laser irradiation. A large number of experiments with thermography monitoring during the Nd: YAG laser cleaning have been performed.The results show that the infrared thermography can eliminate damages to the base material, which is of particular importance in the complex artifacts.

Интегрисана, мултидисциплинарна методологија анализе корозионих и других оштећења археолошких металних артефаката у циљу израде њихових реплика

AB  - Метална оруђа и алати као археолошки налази, у случају великих корозионих оштећења и неконзистентности предмета до границе немогућности примене класичних конзерваторско-рестаураторских метода, реконструишу се за потребе археолошких института, историјских музеја и музеја науке и технике, методом израде реплика. У случајевима великих корозионих оштећења неопходно је успоставити методологију која ће максимално искористити материјал који је на располагању и пружити валидну информацију о изгледу оруђа и алата из одређене историјске епохе. Од изузетног је значаја да се реконструкција оруђа и алата изврши на исправан начин, у оквиру Протокола који обухвата више корака дефинисаних предложеном интегрисаном методологијом:
1. Дефинисање стања археолошког гвозденог артефакта применом недеструктивних метода:· Ултразвук, Радиографија, XRD метода и метода јонске хроматографије (IC метода);
2. Дефинисање облика и врста корозионих и других оштећења на некородиралом металном језгру;
3. Утврђивање корозионе стабилности метала артефакта током времена проведеног у земљишту и након археолошког ископавања, на основу састава корозионих продуката и њиховог масеног удела;
4. Утврђивање степена очуваности археолошког артефакта путем утврђивања доминантне фазе корозионих продуката;
5. Утврђивање могућности конзервације-рестаурације археолошког предмета;
6. Израда реплике као поступка очување предмета културне баштине, у немогућности примене поступака конзервације-рестаурације археолошког предмета. 
Наведени протокол формулисан је након испитивања више археолошких металних предмета, а методологија је представљена на примеру испитивања гвозденог артефакта – ножа који потиче из Римског периода (IV век), а пронађен је на локалитету Дуге њиве, Богатићи код Шапца у Србији.
Гвоздени артефакт се налазио у релативно лошем стању, те је свака манипулација могла да доведе до потпуног урушавања целовитости предмета и губљења значајних информација. У наведеном случају, помоћу ултразвучне и радиографске методе одређена је количина преосталог некородиралог гвозденог језгра као и врста и облик присутних оштећења. Методом дифракције X-зрака (XRD метода) одређен је састав корозионих продуката узетих са површине гвозденог артефакта.
Утврђено је да су корозиони продукти ниског степена кристалиничности. У корозионим продуктима доминантна фаза је био гетит α-FeOOH и магнетит, Fe3O4. Присуство тих фаза објашњава очуваност металног језгра-гвожђа током дугог периода времена и његову стабилност после ископавања. Поред гетита и магнетита у корозионим продуктима је идентификован у мањој количини и лепидокрокит, γ-FeOOH и фазе које потичу од околне земље, стена итд., као што је SiO2. Ниска кристаличност корозионих продуката указује на могуће присуство веома финих честица гетита и фероксита (аморфног гвожђе окси-хидроксида, који се често назива мисавит), δ- FeOOH и који се не може идентификовати помоћу XRD методе. Фазе које садрже хлоридне јоне нису идентификоване XRD методом у корозионим продуктима. Такође, методом јонске хроматографије детектован је веома низак садржај хлоридних јона у корозионим продуктима. То индиректно указује на чињеницу да хлоридни јони нису били присутни у значајнијој мери у земљишту у близини археолошког артефакта, а такође објашњава корозиону стабилност артефакта током периода након његовог ископавања.

Методом дифракције X-зрака (XRD метода) одређен је састав корозионих продуката узетих са површине гвозденог артефакта.
Утврђено је да су корозиони продукти ниског степена кристалиничности. У корозионим продуктима доминантна фаза је био гетит α-FeOOH и магнетит, Fe3O4. Присуство тих фаза објашњава очуваност металног језгра-гвожђа током дугог периода времена и његову стабилност после ископавања. Поред гетита и магнетита у корозионим продуктима је идентификован у мањој количини и лепидокрокит, γ-FeOOH и фазе које потичу од околне земље, стена итд., као што је SiO2. Ниска кристаличност корозионих продуката указује на могуће присуство веома финих честица гетита и фероксита (аморфног гвожђе окси-хидроксида, који се често назива мисавит), δ- FeOOH и који се не може идентификовати помоћу XRD методе. Фазе које садрже хлоридне јоне нису идентификоване XRD методом у корозионим продуктима. Такође, методом јонске хроматографије детектован је веома низак садржај хлоридних јона у корозионим продуктима. То индиректно указује на чињеницу да хлоридни јони нису били присутни у значајнијој мери у земљишту у близини археолошког артефакта, а такође објашњава корозиону стабилност артефакта током периода након његовог ископавања.",

AB  - The main aim of this paper is to present the results of the morphological and chemical changes on the surface of a ceramic sample irradiated by the Nd:YAG laser. The tested sample is a part of an aqueduct tile, originating from the archaeological site of Yazd, Iran. The laser irradiation effects were studied as a function of the number of laser pulses and laser fluences around and over the damage threshold. The obtained modifications were investigated because these are essential in laser cleaning of aqueduct ceramics. The Nd: YAG laser with a wavelength, lambda, of 1064 nm and full width at half maximum (FWHM) pulse, tau, of 150 ps has been used for the surface treatment. The ceramic surface morphology modifications, induced by laser, were characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM), while the composition was examined by energy-dispersive (EDX) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy. The results show that there are significant differences depending on the applied laser fluences and whether the surface is glazed or not.

AB  - A large number of metals and alloys are widely used in the defense industry, not only in weaponry and defense equipment, but also for communications equipment and infrastructure. These materials are often exposed to extreme condition: high or low temperatures, humidity, chemical agents, wear and so on. They have to have the ability to withstand corrosion, temperature extremes and wear. Different types of weapons and equipment require adequate maintenance and cleaning. As an efficient cleaning method, lasers are widely used in many areas for different type of materials. This paper presents the results of the laser cleaning effects on tarnished brass plate. Nd:YAG and Er:Glass lasers were used to clean the tarnish layer from surface. Effects on the laser irradiated zones were investigated by optical and SEM microscopy and EDX analysis. Also surface's profile roughness and surface hardness were measured. Some parameters for successfully and safely cleaning of brass surface without degrading the surrounding material were determined.

AB  - У раду су приказани резултати испитивања микроморфолошких и хемијских промена на површини глазиране керамике, озрачене CO2 ласером. Испитивани узорак је део керамичке плочице. Ефекти ласерског деловања су испитивани у зависности од броја ласерских импулса и ласерске флуенце око и изнад прага пштећења. Добијене промене су испитиване јер су веома значајне у ласерској обради керамике. CO2 ласер са таласном дужином λ= 10.6 μm и трајањем импулса τ=100 ps, је коришћен за обраду површине. Морфолошке промене површине керамике изазване деловањем ласером су испитане скенирајућим електронсим микроскопом (СЕМ), а хемијски састав испитан је EDX и X-ray флуоресцентном спектроскопијом (XRF). Резултати показују да постоје значајне разлике у зависности од примењених ласерских флуенци и броја импулса.

LIBS and XRF were used for the morphological and chemical analysis of laser radiation impact on the examined materials. Also surface's profile roughness and surface hardness were measured. Some parameters for successfully and safely cleaning of brass surface without degrading the surrounding material were determined.

AB  - A great number of textile objects with metallic embroidery are kept in Ethnographic Museums all over the world. Corrosion is a process that occurs under the external chemical, mechanical and biological influences. The museum conservators invest significant efforts to provide the necessary conditions for preventive protection. The classic methods of cleaning old textile objects with metallic threads often do not yield the expected results and the use of laser in the conservation of these objects plays an important role.
Laser cleaning is an effective cleaning technique of metal corrosion layers since it provides a high degree of control. That allows fragile objects with a considerable amount of surface details. The most complicated implementation of laser is in cleaning the objects with multi-component composition such as, for example, metal and textile combination. Although there are certain published results, this domain has not been sufficiently researched because every object is a problem that requires study and comprehensive research before cleaning is attempted. 
This paper shows the results of research conducted with the aim of determining optimum parameters in the process of cleaning the product of corrosion on a woman's costume part, apron, from southern Serbia (study collection of the Ethnographic museum in Belgrade). Laser cleaning was made by using the Nd:Yag laser with three wavelengths 1064 and 532 nm, and energies between 2-200mJ. The obtained results were studied with a USB optical microscope, electron microscope SEM, with EDX analysis.
AB  - Етнографски музеји широм света, у својим депоима, чувају велики број текстилних предмета са металним везом. Корозија представља оштећење материјала које може да се јавља под спољним механичким, хемијским и биолошким утицајем. Конзерватори у музеју су уложили велике напоре да обезбеде неопходне услове превентивне заштите. Класичне методе чишћења старих текстилних предмета са металним нитима често пута не дају очекиване резултате и примена ласера у заштити и конзервацији предмета културне баштине последњих година има велику улогу.
Ласерско чишћење је веома ефикасна техника чишћења корозионих слојева обзиром да омогућава висок степен контроле параметара, што обезбеђује безбедно и ефикасно чишћење објеката који су осетљиви. Најкомпликованија је примена ласера у чишћењу експоната који имају вишекомпонентни састав, као што су, на пример, комбинација метала и текстила. Иако постоје одређени резултати који су публиковани, ова област је недовољно истражена, јер је сваки предмет проблем који тражи студиозно и свеобухватно истраживање пре него што се приступи чишћењу.
У овом раду је приказан део резултата истраживања спроведених с циљем да се одреде оптимални параметри у процесу чишћења корозионих продуката на делу женске одеће-сукња са југа Србије (из научне збирке Етнографског музеја у Београду). Ласерско чишћење је реализовано помоћу Nd:YAG ласера, са три таласне дужине: 1064  и 532 nm и енергијама између 2-200mJ. Добијени резултати су испитивани дигиталним, оптичким микроскопом, електронским микроскопом и EDX анализом.

Historic building's holistic and sustainable deep energy refurbishment via BPS, energy efficiency and renewable energy - A case study

AB  - This paper recognizes the synergetic relationship and inextricable linkage between conservation and sustainability. Heritage preservation maximizes the use of existing materials and infrastructure, reduces waste, and preserves the historic character of older towns and cities. This paper also presents technical advances in BPS/BES (Building Performance Simulation/Building Energy Simulation), and in co-simulation for energy efficiency optimization, RES integrated historic building's greening and historic neighborhoods, settlements, as well as whole cities urban re-planning. Further, the paper presents initial results of the Aviation Museum in Belgrade preliminary energy refurbishment study focusing results obtained via BPS and co-simulation. Foreseen is the deep energy refurbishment aimed to reach the “total building performance optimization” encompassing multifunctional optimization of building's skin – glazing replacement with the semi-transparent PV glazing and day-lighting control with reference to the artifact preservation, as well as the IEQ (Indoor Environment Quality) control analysis. This study shows that the RES integrated refurbishment can result in the Museum's Zero CO2 emission and even in the sustainable Energy + status (producing more than using electricity). Finally, needs for most current ICT knowledge use and refurbishment technologies development, as well as integrated design, including particularly relevant benchmarking and rating system development are outlined.

AB  - This paper presents the results of the morphological and chemical changes on the surface of an Iranian ceramics sample irradiated by a Transversely Excited Atmospheric (TEA) CO2 and an Nd:YAG laser. The sample originates from the archeological site of Yazd (Iran) and is assumed to have been a part of an aqueduct. The effect of laser parameters (energy density (fluency), number of pulses and wavelength) on the induced changes was studied. The tests were performed in order to establish the mechanism of the interaction with the fluence above the damage threshold. This is an essential parameter in the use of lasers for cleaning as well as for eliminating surface defects such as cracks, by melting superficial layers and thus strengthening the objects in question. Another objective was to obtain as much as possible information about the material composition necessary for the conservation and restoration of this ceramics. A TEA CO2 (10.6 μm wavelength, pulse duration 100 ns (Full Width at Half Maximum – FWHM)) laser and an Nd:YAG laser (wavelength 1064 nm and 532 nm, FWHM ¼ 150 ps) have been used for the surface treatment. Laser fluences were in the range of 1–20 J/cm2. The ceramics surface morphology modifications, induced by pulsed lasers, were characterized by a scanning electron microscope (SEM),while the composition was examined by energy-dispersive (EDX) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy. The results show that there are significant differences depending on the laser applied and whether the surface is glazed or not.

AB  - This paper presents the results of the laser cleaning effects on textile samples with corroded metallic threads. In many museum collections, there are textile exhibits like uniforms, national costumes, flags and home textile, embroidered with metallic threads. Corrosion of metal threads is one of the most common problems that damage embroidered items. In the practice, the application of conventional cleaning methods rarely gives the expected results, and the implementation of laser technology was the next step for corrosion products cleaning. The Nd:YAG laser was used to clean the corrosion of embroidered items from a museum study collection. The effects on the laser irradiated zones were investigated by optical and SEM microscopy and the EDX analysis. The laser irradiation process parameters of the metal threads corrosion
AB  - U radu su prikazani rezultati čišćenja korozije na tekstilnim eksponatima sa metalnim nitima pomoću lasera. U mnogim muzejskim zbirkama nalaze se eksponati kao što su uniforme, narodne nošnje, zastave i kućni tekstil, ukrašeni vezom metalnim nitima. Korozija metalnih niti je jedan od najvećih problema, koji oštećuje vezene eksponate. U praksi, veoma često, klasične metode ne daju očekivane rezultate i primena lasera je sledeći korak čišćenja korozionih produkata. Nd- YAG laser je korišćen za čišćenje korozije vezenih eksponata iz muzejske, studijske zbirke. Efekti u zonama ozračenim laserom su ispitivani optičkim mikroskopom, SEMom i EDX analizom. Određeni su izabrani parametri za uspešno i bezbedno čišćenje korozije na metalnim nitima.
AB  - В этой статье приведены результаты очистки коррозии на экспонатах из текстиля с металлическими нитями с помощью лазера. Во многих музейных коллекциях представлены экспонаты, такие как формы, народные костюмы, флаги и домашний текстиль, вышитые металлической нитью. Коррозия металлических нитей является одной из самых больших проблем, которая повреждает вышитые экспонаты. На практике, очень часто, классические методы не дают ожидаемых результатов и применение лазера является следующим шагом
очистки следов коррозии. Nd-YAG лазер используется для очистки коррозии вышитых экспонатов из музейных исследовательских коллекций. Эффекты в областях облученных лазером были исследованы с помощью оптического микроскопа, SEM и EDX анализом. Некоторые параметры определяются и выбираются так, чтобы успешно и безопасно очистить металлические нити от коррозии.
AB  - Dans ce papier on a présenté les résultats du nettoyage de corrosion chez les objets exposés en textile aux fils métalliques réalisé au moyen du laser. Dans plusieurs collections de musée on trouve les objets tels que uniformes, costumes nationaux, drapeaux et textile de maison qui sont ornés de broderie faite en fils de métal. La corrosion des fils en métal est un des plus grands problèmes car elle endommage les objets exposés brodés. En pratique les méthodes classiques ne donnent pas souvent les résultats espérés et l’utilisation du laser est le pas suivant dans le nettoyage des produits de 
corrosion. Le laser Nd-YAG a été utilisé pour le nettoyage de corrosion sur les objets brodés appartenant à la collection d’étude de musée. Dans les zones irradiées par laser les effets ont été étudiés au moyen du microscope optique et en utilisant les analyses SEM et EDX. On a déterminé les paramètres choisis pour le nettoyage en sécurité et avec succès de la corrosion chez les fils en métal.

Коррозия металлических нитей является одной из самых больших проблем, которая повреждает вышитые экспонаты. На практике, очень часто, классические методы не дают ожидаемых результатов и применение лазера является следующим шагом
очистки следов коррозии. Nd-YAG лазер используется для очистки коррозии вышитых экспонатов из музейных исследовательских коллекций. Эффекты в областях облученных лазером были исследованы с помощью оптического микроскопа, SEM и EDX анализом. Некоторые параметры определяются и выбираются так, чтобы успешно и безопасно очистить металлические нити от коррозии., Dans ce papier on a présenté les résultats du nettoyage de corrosion chez les objets exposés en textile aux fils métalliques réalisé au moyen du laser. Dans plusieurs collections de musée on trouve les objets tels que uniformes, costumes nationaux, drapeaux et textile de maison qui sont ornés de broderie faite en fils de métal. La corrosion des fils en métal est un des plus grands problèmes car elle endommage les objets exposés brodés. En pratique les méthodes classiques ne donnent pas souvent les résultats espérés et l’utilisation du laser est le pas suivant dans le nettoyage des produits de 
corrosion. Le laser Nd-YAG a été utilisé pour le nettoyage de corrosion sur les objets brodés appartenant à la collection d’étude de musée. Dans les zones irradiées par laser les effets ont été étudiés au moyen du microscope optique et en utilisant les analyses SEM et EDX. On a déterminé les paramètres choisis pour le nettoyage en sécurité et avec succès de la corrosion chez les fils en métal.",

AB  - Klаsične metode čišćenjа starih tekstilnih predmeta sа metаlnim nitimа često puta ne dаje
očekivаne rezultаte. Primenа lаserа u zaštiti i konzervaciji predmetа kulturne bаštine poslednjih
godinа ima veliku ulogu. Nаjkomplikovаnijа je primenа lаserа u čišćenju eksponаtа koji imаju
višekomponentni sаstаv, kаo što su, kombinаcije metаl-tekstil. U rаdu se razmatra problem koji se
pojavio u fundusu tekstila Etnografskog muzeja u Beogradu. Prikаzаni su rezultаti ispitivаnjа
efekаtа lаserskog čišćenjа na eksperimentalnim uzorcima etnografskog tekstila sа metаlnim
nitimа. korišćenjem Nd:Yag lаsera. Ispitivаnje efekаtа čišćenja je vršeno optičkom i skenirаjućom
elektonskom mikroskopijom i EDX аnаlizom. Određeni su pаrаmetri zа uspešno i bezbedno
čišćenje korozionih produkаtа nа metаlnim nitimа, nа izabranim eksponatima.

produce the expected results. The use of lasers in the protection and conservation of cultural
heritage items in recent years has an important role. The most complicated is the use of lasers in
cleaning items that have a multicomponent structure, such as, combination of metal and fabric.
This paper discusses the problem that appeared in the holdings of textiles Ethnographic Museum
in Belgrade. We presents the results of the effects of Nd:Yag laser cleaning of ethnographic textile
experimental samples with metallic threads. Cleaning effects was investigated by an optical and
scanning electronic microscopy (OM and SEM) and EDX analysis. Parameters for successful and
safe cleaning of corrosion products on the metal threads were determined for some exponats.
