abstract = "The impact assessment of the air pollution on the quality of the environment shall be based on the concentration of pollutants in the air. The concentration of pollutants such as soot, sulfur dioxide and particulate matter are determined by continuous monitoring and proper selection of appropriate locations for sampling.
These concentrations are determined in accordance with current legislation and sampling points are selected in accordance with the morphological and hydrological characteristics of the terrain and the wind rose. Development of a strategy on the environmental quality assessment when it comes to air pollution, in addition to the concentration of pollutants is necessary to be thoroughly examined all the factors that affect air quality. Areas with several forms of contamination, from which a strategy of environmental assessment can be estimated, are rarely found in practise.
For these reasons, the selected area of Lazarevac (central Serbia) which is specific in terms of air quality was selected, since in this region the power generating and industrial plants are located. In addition to contamination from industry, this area is characterized by the pollution from soot during the heating season due to emissions from individual heating and domestic funances, but also by the pollution from traffic. Tests were carried out on an annual basis, in winter and summer period. Based on the statistical analysis of the results their impact on the environment was estimated.",
