AB - For investigation of artistic components, generaly, there are many developed methods, but a lot of them still are not fully reliable or standardized. One of the available method for such investigation is radiographic testing, when the thickness of testing components does not represents a problem, whatever if the great or small thickness exists. Here is tested an artefact in the shape of desk lamp. The chemical composition of the body is analysed by using XRF spectrography while the radiographic transparent testing is applied through the whole body of the lamp.
The body of this desk lamp is produced by casting, using the precise casting method, while other decorative ornaments were shaped by hammering. The fastening of those components is provided by brazing or mechanically. The plastic deformation is designated as method for shaping of thin elements – here leaves. The radiographic testing has revealed the existence of some indications only at leaves produced by hammering. The indications usualy mean discontinuity in material homogenity. Registration of indications and their locations are necessary steps in every further approach for removing such discontinuities. Chossing the repair method always is particular problem, however in entire technique, especially in sensitive artistic component(s). Every action in repairing or restauration may led to more or less visible traces. Unadequate actions may permanently change the appearance or usage of treated artefact.

AB - The paper presents a brief overview of contemporary ELION techniques with stress on their use for material modification and dozimetry. In the attempt to avoid some common misjudges of irradiation effects, special attention is paid to exact definition of irradiation geometry and careful adjustment of dose rates, which en able a proper elaboration of experimental results. In particular, effects of γ -rays irradiation on properties of commercial optical fibres, splitters, connectors, and fibre joints are examined, which enables monitoring of irradiation effects in complex configurations made of materials with different radiation hardness (resistance). It has been established that γ -rays irradiation of the investigated elements influences, in different ways, the transmission of laser beam signals of various wavelengths, under different modulation regimes. After irradiation, the signal attenuation is noticeably larger, both in optical connectors and optical splitter, than be fore it, and the effect in creases in time. The effects are more pronounced at the 99 % than at the 1 % Y-splitter out put at both measured wave lengths, and are more pronounced at 1310 nm than at 1550 nm.

AB - Laser applications in processes of monitoring, protection, restoration and cleaning of the objects of cultural heritage still attract attention, inspite of relatively long tradition. Although numerous mutual problems are resolved, each precious object of cultural heritage is unique and needs specific characterization before exact laser operation. Contemporary generation of laser scanners along with competitive techniques accelerated the processes of data collecting and storing in the form of 3D digital models, irreplaceable in modern informative space.
