AB - The present study reports the potential application of star-shaped poly(ε-caprolactones) with different number of arms as new drug delivery matrix. Linear and star-shaped PCL ibuprofen loaded microspheres were prepared using oil-in-water (o/w) solvent evaporation technique and characterized with FTIR, DSC, XRD and SEM analysis. High yield, encapsulation efficiency and drug loadings were obtained for all microspheres. FTIR analysis revealed the existence of interactions between polymer matrix and drug, while the DSC analysis suggested that drug was encapsulated in an amorphous form. SEM analysis confirmed that regular, spherical in shape star-shaped microspheres, with diameter between 80 and 90 μm, were obtained, while quite larger microspheres, 110 μm, were prepared from linear PCL. The advantage of using star-shaped PCL microspheres instead of linear PCL was seen from drug release profiles which demonstrated higher amount of drug released from star-shaped polymer matrix as a consequence of their branched, flexible structure. Microspheres prepared from the polymers with the most branched structure showed the highest amount of the released drug after 24 h. Finally, cytotoxicity tests, performed using normal human fibroblasts (MRC5), indicated the absence of cytotoxicity at lower concentrations of microspheres proving the great potential of star-shaped PCL systems in comparison to linear ones.

AB - In order to obtain polymers with preserved thermal properties and tunable biodegradability multiblock copolymers comprising blocks of biodegradable polyesters poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) were successfully synthesized through chain-extension reaction using hexamethylene diisocyanate. Two series of copolymers with different length of PCL block and varying ratio of PCL and PBS block through each series were synthesized. PCL-b-PBS copolymers were characterized by NMR, FTIR, WAXS, DSC, TG and DMA in solid state. Special attention was given to the investigation of the influence of composition and structure of multiblock copolymers on their biodegradability properties. Biodegradability of these multiblock copolymers was assessed through hydrolysis in alkaline medium and soil burial test. Each block in multiblock copolymers crystallized separately, with adverse influence of its presence on degree of crystallinity and, in much lesser extent, on melting temperature of the second phase. Multiblock copolymers showed high thermal stability, comparable to corresponding homopolymers. Mechanical strength, deduced from storage modulus in glassy and rubbery state, was a firm function of composition. Copolymers rich in PBS were more prone to degradation through simple hydrolysis in alkaline medium, while PCL-rich copolymers were more susceptible to degradation by soil microorganisms. Through the change in copolymer composition, degradability in different environments could be tailored without compromising materials’ thermal properties. Besides composition, molecular weight of copolymers had the major influence on degradability properties.

AB - Silanization of the natural and synthetic zeolites as well as their use as adsorbents for removing arsenic(III) oxyanions from wastewater are the topic of this paper. Two types of zeolite were used: natural zeolite-clinoptilolite from Zlatokop deposit, Vranjska Banja, Serbia, previously converted to H+-form and synthetic zeolite, mordenite. The modification was performed with solution (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES). The presence of APTES on the surface of zeolite was confirmed using TG/DSC and FTIR analysis. The results showed that natural aminosilane-modified zeolite has a higher adsorption capacity for arsenic(III) oxyanions compared to mordenite prepared in the same way. The kinetic data follow the Lagergren pseudo-second-order model. This model implies a chemical interaction between AsO33–- ions and functional groups on the silanized zeolite surface.

AB - In this work, for the first time, we proposed electrochemical behavior and development of analytical procedure for quantification of pesticide azamethiphos, using boron doped diamond (BDD) electrode. It was found that azamethiphos electrochemical behavior is irreversible oxidation at potential of around 1.70 V, in 1M nitric acid. Square wave voltammetric technique was most appropriate for azamethiphos quantification. Under optimized experimental conditions linear working range from 2 to 100 pM was estimated with detection limit of 1.38 pM. Negligible effect of possible interfering compound was observed. Obtained results clearly show that developed analytical methodology can be adequate replacement for the, up to date, used methods for detection of organophosphorous pesticide.

AB - Of the first laser application in the field of preservation and diagnostics of cultural heritage, many tasks in the field of physical processes have been ended to today, which include interaction and dimensioning powder structures, controlling the work environment in the process of cleaning objects, as well as the applications of holographic, tomographic, interferent and diffraction and diffraction methods Diagnosticing, memory, authentication, etc. Some of the problems will be considered in this paper, including the necessary software support. The methods of laser cleaning of plaster objects based on literature were analyzed, and in given cases assess was distribution by the dimensions of powder and aerosol particles (analytical). The data obtained are digitized with appropriate software and prepared for further software processing for the sake of the characteristic functions of the distribution. Obtaining distribution is required to assess the protection measures due to risk, which implies dimensions of particles harmful to the human health. This area is directly associated with methods to obtain powders through lasers and apply thin layers, where the optimal working regime of the applied laser is of interest.

This area is directly associated with methods to obtain powders through lasers and apply thin layers, where the optimal working regime of the applied laser is of interest., Od prvih primena lasera u području očuvanja i dijagnostike kulturne baštine, do danas je rešeno mnogo zadataka iz područja fizičkih procesa koji uključuju interakciju i dimenzionisanje praškastih struktura, kontrolisanje radne sredine u procesu čišćenja objekata, ali i primene holografskih, tomografskih, interferentnih i difrakcionih metoda za dijagnostikovanje, memorisanje, proveru autentičnosti i td.

AB - In the application of coherent radiation for diagnostics and cleaning materials from the contaminated layers from the facilities of relevance to cultural heritage, several types of lasers are used, some of which have several outputs. ND3 +: YAG LASER (one system) is used on the outputs: 1.06 μm, 532 nm and 355 nm. Selected samples of materials of different nature (ceramics, paper, plastic, metals) are exposed to the effects of the first three outputs in order to remove unwanted layers. The models represented objects for processes in which the desired layer from the trial sample type of graphite type, ballpoint pen, flomaster and marker is removed. In each presentation, the corresponding thermal imaging is recorded so that there is a possibility of checking the interaction of the selected beam with materials and checking temperature distribution through simulations of analytical and numerical methods with various packages (Numerics, COMSOL, ZEMAX, HLAD ..).

AB - The task of the laser application start with selection of adequate quantum generator, and the second step is the design of a chosen method. The wide cost range of the system development and simulation complexity in the designing process, result in the overall evaluation of conception efficiency. The chosen demandes and according algorithms as well as software packages, or own software solutions are presented in this paper. Design problems of laser systems in interferometers, some lidar-ecology applications, and the fire detection and monitoring accomplished by lidar systems, are analysed, too.
