AB - In this paper, 12-tungstenphosphoric acid (PWA) was synthesized in combination with FeCl3 at room temperature (25 oC). At such manner, Fe3+ ion exchange gave new 12-tungstenphosphoric salt of the transition metal iron (FePW12O40×nH2O; Fe-PWA). Thermal analysis determined the temperature of about 596 oC of the phase transition, i.e., the temperature at which the structure of the Kegin anion is disturbed. Therefore, it was chosen temperature above the breakdown of the Kegin anion of 650 oC, and which is required to obtain phosphate tungsten bronzes (PWB) doped with iron (Fe-PWB). The sample was kept in the oven for 10 minutes. Such obtained new Fe-PWB doped bronze was further investigated by the X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and Rietveld methods. The XRPD patterns of Fe-PWA and Fe-PWB were taken in the 3-90o 2θ angle range, and clearly reveal crystallographic and structural differences between these two phases. Determined unit-cell parameters of Fe-PWB obtained by the Rietveld method in the monoclinic crystallographic system are as following: a0 = 7.53(2) Å; b0 = 7.51(1) Å; c0 = 7.64(1) Å; β0 = 89.7(2)o; and V0 = 431(2) Å3. These unit-cell parameters were compared with PWB, as well as other previously doped bronzes (Li-PWB and Ca-PWB). It can be concluded that inserting of the Fe3+ ion into the PWB’s structure was undoubtedly proven, and have the most influence to the axis a0 (i.e., it significantly increased), angle β0 (i.e., it significantly decreased), and volume V0 (i.e., it significantly increased). On the other hand, influence to the axis c0 is quite smaller (i.e., it slightly decreased), whereas influence to the axis b0 is minor. Such behavior is also very different in comparison to the Li-PWB and Ca-PWB.

ionically exchanged with Fe3+ ions, which led to the formation of the FePWA salt (FePW12O40 x nH2O). FePWA was then subjected to thermal analysis (TGA/DTA), which determined the phase transition temperature ( i.e., when the Keggin anion collapses). The temperature of collapsing the Keggin anion is about 600 °C, at which phosphate tungsten bronzes doped with iron (FePWB) are obtained. Obtained FePWB was further characterized by XRPD and FTIR, which confirmed the formation of the desired structure. FePWA and FePWB were examined as an electrode material for aqueous rechargeable batteries due to the channels and cavities present in their structure. Experiments were done in aqueous solutions of 6 M LiNO3 by cyclic voltammetry. The differences in the redox processes of heteropoly acid salts and iron-doped bronze were discussed thoroughly and correlated with the XRPD and FTIR results. The catalytic activity is also investigated by Briggs-Rauscher method followed potentiometricaly.

Fe-PWA was then subjected to thermal analysis (TGA/DTA), determining the phase transition temperature of 576 °C from Fe-PWA to its corresponding phosphate tungsten bronze doped with iron, Fe-PWB. Using the X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning electron microscopy with an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) method, the obtained Fe-PWA and Fe-PWB were additionally characterized, and compared. Due to channels and cavities in their structures, Fe-PWA and Fe-PWB were next examined as electrode materials for aqueous rechargeable batteries. Electrochemical measurements were done in aqueous solutions of 6 M LiNO3 by cyclic voltammetry. Fe-PWA and Fe-PWB exhibit different redox processes, which are discussed thoroughly in this work. Electrochemical results are showing that within the Fe-PWA structure, more Li+ ions can be intercalated in the first discharge cycle, but consecutive cycling leads to a fast capacity fade. While the Fe-PWB redox process was stable during cycling, its specific capacity is limited by the material's poor electrical conductivity. Improvements in Fe-PWB conductivity must be addressed in future studies in order to boost material’s electrochemical performance.

AB - Phosphate-tungsten bronzes (PWBs) constantly attract a lot of attention owing to their interesting chemical, mechanical, and optical properties. Furthermore, tungsten bronzes as inert inorganic solids, exhibit interesting and useful electronic properties when rare-earth ions are incorporated into their structure. Cerium doped phosphate-tungsten bronze (Ce-PWB) is obtained in the process of phase transformations of CePW12O40×6H2O (Ce-PWA) salt. The brown crystals of Ce-PWB are formed after heating of Ce-PWA in a furnace, in a temperature range from room temperature to 650 °C. In the present paper the luminescence properties of undoped PWB and Ce-PWB are analyzed and compared. Regarding the characterized luminescence properties of PWB and Ce-PWB, only PWB matrix showed luminescence, while dopant Ce3+ had no significant influence on the change of the emission spectra with characteristic spectra for this ion. The obtained CIE chromaticity diagrams showed that both samples emit in the deep blue region, suggesting their possible use as a blue emitting source for white light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

AB - The interaction of lasers with material has been current for many years with many solutions, which have become commercial and where it is not brought to the fore that it is a laser source. It is drowned in elion solutions and compares the effects of plasma beams, water, neutrons, microwaves. Basic theoretical and practical evaluated models are developed. In modeling, models are further developed, often immediately switching to numerics and depending on the energy /power, repetitions of the working laser station, approximations could be chosen. In the paper, on the basis of experimental exposures to beams, a series of assumptions will be formed about the forecast and tailoring of the properties of the old material with possible new ones, caused by modifications with various techniques. Special consideration will also be given to cases where the effects of recoil are not neglected and this approach is also shown, as well as coupling with acoustic phenomena. The properties of materials will be covered with new spectroscopic data, or the comparability or seeing of materials from various angles of view, where matching / non-matching with the theoretical approach, in itself, gives a new view of materials. On the other hand, parallel processes are sought, which are present during the interaction, but due to the appearance of non- linear effects at higher intensities, there is a change in the place of various thresholds for their occurrence (as stimulating processes, induced, which appear in addition to spontaneous ones). As lasing itself appears as part of the interaction of stimulated light /radiation with the material, the question of the coefficients of the useful effect of the laser and the thresholds of lasing is also observed. Parallel interferometry / holography / tomography with laser attribute is also set up. We performed our simulations for some of the interaction / scattering processes and experimental exposures to different types of lasers.

AB - The Briggs-Rauscher (BR) reaction is an oscillating reaction in which the oxidation of malonic acid (CH2(COOH)2) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and potassium iodate (KIO3) is catalyzed with a metal ion (usually Mn2+) in acidic aqueous solution. The BR reaction is very sensitive to the addition of different types of analytes. Every change in oscillatory dynamics, caused by analyte addition, can be used for the appraisal of analyte concentration, as well as its potential antiradical or catalytic activity. The cerium doped phosphate tungsten bronze (Ce-PWB) was obtained by thermal treatment and characterized by TGA, DSC, FTIR, and XRPD technics. In this work, the behavior of Ce-PWB and its influence on BR oscillatory dynamics was examined. The results revealed that an increase in the mass of added Ce-PWB has slightly shortened the oscillation time duration with the minimal change in the form of the basic BR oscillogram, suggesting the catalytic effect of this bronze in oscillatory reaction

AB - Recently, two different effects of phosphate tungsten (PWB) and phosphate molybdenum (PMoB) bronzes (obtained by thermal treatment), on oscillatory Briggs-Rauscher (BR) dynamic have been found [1]. Although both are insoluble in BR solution [2], the addition of different masses of PWB linearly decreases the BR oscillation time, while the addition of different masses of PMoB had no effects on the BR reaction. Furthermore, PWB has an identical role as metal catalyst Mn2+ in
BR reaction and for obtained behavior is probably responsible the different mechanisms of heterogeneous catalysis of these bronzes in oscillatory reaction. Therefore, a deeper investigation was done in order to find the major structural characteristic of these two bronzes by using the XRPD method. What is so different for these two bronzes, causing dissimilar effects in BR
reaction, is it “just” catalytic activity of central cation or there is something more? The XRPD method confirmed very different structures of PWB and PMoB as monoclinic and orthorhombic, respectively [3,4]. This work tries to connect the structural properties of PWB and PMoB with BR oscillatory reaction responses, expanding the usage of oscillatory reaction in material science and catalysis, in general.

AB - The calcium phosphate tungsten bronze (Ca-PWB) has been synthesized and characterized (TGA, DSC, XRPD, FTIR, SEM). The influence of solid insoluble materials Ca-PWB, as well as lithium doped (Li-PWB) and cation free phosphate tungsten (PWB) bronzes on the oscillatory Briggs-Rauscher (BR) reaction dynamics, is compared. The results show that doping with Li and Ca reduces sensitivity of the BR reaction towards bronzes addition. These findings suggest the usage of the BR reaction as an innovative method for testing of different properties of bronze material. The behavior of PWB in the BR reaction is significantly changed with divalent cation (Ca2+) doping. The reasons for the different bronzes behavior were found in their calculated unit cell volumes. Namely, the compressed Ca-PWB unit cell volume indicates the difficult availability of the active site for heterogeneous catalysis. Hence, the linear correlation (slope) of the BR oscillogram’s length (τosc) vs. mass of bronze in BR reaction might be considered as a new parameter for the evaluation of the bronzes catalytic activity.

AB - Dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze has been successfully synthesized and characterized
(TGA, DSC, FTIR). For the preparation of dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze (Dy-PWB), as a starting material is used 12-tungstophosporic heteropoly acid H3PW12O40×29H2O (PWA), which was first transformed into H3PW12O40×6H2O (6-PWA) by heating of PWA at 80 °C in a kiln. Aqueous solution H3PW12O40×6H2O is then commingled with aqueous solution of DyCl3×6H2O, slightly heated in order to start the crystallization process and left during the night to finish the crystallization. The obtained salt DyPW12O40×nH2O is then heated in furnace, from room temperature to 600 °C, whereby the yellow crystals of dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze are formed. The structure and its phase transformations were characterized by thermal analysis (TGA and DSC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectra (FTIR). In this paper, the dysprosium phosphate tungsten bronze has been synthesized and characterized for the first time in order to obtain more information about its structure, chemical features and potential practical application. The potential practical application of Dy-PWB is in its installation in batteries and fuel cells, as catalyst for the reduction of oxygen in acidic electrolytes. Due to the specific yellow color and its thermal stability, Dy-PWB could also be used as a pigment.

AB - The primary objectives of this study is mineralogical characterization of two sludge samples with different initial content of iron derived by hydro-cyclone overflow generated during the processing of iron ore in the Omarska mine. Also, a comparative study of the mineral composition and its connection with some properties important for the sludge flocculation process was done. Studied sludge samples are composed of major goethite and quartz; less clay minerals; and minor magnetite, hematite, clinochlore and todorokite. They have quite similar qualitative, but different semi-quantitative compositions. There are similar particle size distributions between the samples, and highest contents of about 50% belongs to the finest classes of <6 m. Among size classes within the samples, almost identical iron contents are present; indicating to their similar mineral compositions, which make this system very complex for further separation processes. Sludge II has higher natural settling rate, due to its higher density and mineral composition. With addition of the flocculant, settling rates increases significantly with the increase of the liquid component in both of the samples. The effect of flocculant on the settling rate is different between samples, and depends on their mineral composition. The time of settling does not play a role in selectivity, to the ratio of the mass of floating and sinking parts, and iron content does not change with time. The content of iron partially increases by flocculation; therefore, this method should be considered as an appropriate one. Zeta potential values for sludge are mostly between those for goethite and quartz, indicating their particle mixture and intricately association.

AB - Modifying commercial Li-ion batteries to become more environmentally friendly is of a growing concern. This paper provides an
examination of a potential replacement for commercial cathode material using a naturally occurring purpurin in aqueous solutions of
lithium and sodium salts. The purpurin is extracted from the Madder plant (Rubia tinctorum) and characterized through XRPD, FTIR,
and SEM methods. The intercalation and de-intercalation capacities obtained for the purpurin as a cathode material in the aqueous
solution of LiNO3 are approximately 40 mAh g−1. Compared to the capacity of ∼35 mAh g−1 obtained for commercially used
transition metal oxides in an aqueous solution of Li salt, results presented make the purpurin a promising material for the “green”
development of Li-ion batteries. Although the initial purpurin capacity in NaNO3 solution is almost doubled (∼73 mA h g−1)
compared to that of Li-salt, it is unstable and fades during cycling. The possible explanation of the electrochemical behavior of
purpurin as the cathode material in aqueous solutions of Li and Na salts is discussed in detail.

AB - The waste sludge generated during processing of iron ore in the Omarska mine (The Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is fine-grained (<15μm), containing relatively high concentrations of iron, and quartz as its major impurity. The flocculation behaviour of the primary natural raw “quartz” sample from Omarska mine was studied in the present paper. This sample is composed of major quartz which dominates over minor contents of clay minerals and feldspars, and contain 92.9% of SiO2. Particle size distribution analysis confirm that it is present as fine and ultra-fine particles. The zeta potential of quartz depends on pH value. Settling experiments were performed by using three different dispersants (Na-hexamethaphosphate, Na-pyrophosphate and Na-silicate), and anionic polyacrylamide as flocculants. The best results were achieved with Na-hexametaphosphate (1000 g/t) and anionic polyacrylamide A 100. The effect of a flocculant on the settling rate depends on solid concentration. Settling rates increase significantly with the increase of the liquid component in both cases (natural settling and hindered settling by addition of a flocculant).

AB - The Briggs-Rauscher (BR) reaction is an oscillating reaction in which the oxidation of malonic acid (CH2(COOH)2) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and potassium iodate (KIO3) is catalyzed with a metal ion (usually manganese ion (Mn2+)) in an acid solution (HClO4). It is well known that the BR reaction represents a chemical system that is extremely sensitive to the addition of different types of analytes. Every change in oscillatory dynamics, caused by analyte addition, can be used for the assessment of analyte concentration, as well as its potential antiradical activities. The basic idea of this work is to use the oscillatory reaction, as an unusual and novel system for distinguishing different types of insoluble materials such as bronzes, specifically phosphate tungsten bronze (PWB) and phosphate molybdenum bronze (PMoB). Regarding the results obtained, the increasing mass of PWB leads to a significant decrease of BR oscillatory time, while the addition of PMoB has not affected the BR reaction dynamics. The obtained different behavior of PWB and PMoB introduced the BR reaction as a systemdetector for these two types of bronzes. In order to investigate the mechanism of bronzes action in BR oscillatory reaction, the pH and electric conductivity measurements, as well as inductively coupled plasma and the cyclic voltammetry measurements were done. This work extends the practical aspect of the BR reaction for the examination of solid materials. Furthermore, the obtained results open a new section of oscillatory reaction usage in material science and catalysis in general.

AB - In present paper, studied were the dispersion-flocculation behaviour of the primary natural raw „clay samples” from Omarska mine (Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina). Namely, our previous results showed that during the processing of iron ore in the Omarska mine, large quantities of fine sized (<15μm) waste sludge, with relatively high Fe concentrations, were generated. Sludge samples are composed of major goethite and quartz, less clay minerals, and minor magnetite and todorokite. Selective flocculation is one of the methods that can be applied for the separation of fine class iron minerals from impurities and depends on the individual components of the sludge and their behaviour. This paper presents part of the research of the individual components of the sludge. The „clay samples” are composed of major quartz and clay minerals, which dominate over minor contents of feldspars, amphiboles, goethite and hematite. The clay minerals were identified as mostly illite-sericite which prevails over kaolinite, and with chlorites which appears only sporadically. The dispersion-flocculation behaviour was studied by settling and flocculation experiments and Zeta potential measurements. A three different dispersants (sodium-hexametaphosphate, sodium-pyrophosphate and sodium-silicate), and anionic and non-ionic polyacrylamide (PAM) flocculants were used. It was established that the best results were achieved with sodium-hexametaphosphate (1000 g/t) and anionic A100 PAM.

AB - Briggs-Rauscher (BR) oscillatory reaction is a chemical system very sensitive to different analyte addition. Changes in oscillatory dynamics, by analyte addition, could be successfully used for the determination of analyte concentration, as well as for its antioxidative/antiradical activity assessment. In this work, the BR reaction is used as a system detector for distinguishing solid unsolvable materials, such as phosphate tungsten bronze (PWB) and phosphate molybdenum bronze (PMoB), obtained by thermal treatment. The addition of different masses of PWB in BR reaction decreases its oscillation time, while the addition of different masses of PMoB had no effects on the BR oscillation time. Additionally, the BR oscillation time is the linear function of added PWB mass. The mechanism of bronzes action is investigated by using pH and electric conductivity measurements, as well as inductively coupled plasma and the cyclic voltammetry measurements, and it can be ascribed to PWB better catalytic activity then PMoB, under BR reaction condition. This work extends the practical aspect of the BR reaction for testing solid (insoluble) materials, and opening the possibility of using oscillatory reactions in material science and catalysis, in general.

AB - In present paper there were studied the dispersion-flocculation behaviour of the primary natural raw clay samples from Omarska mine (Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina). During the processing of iron ore in the Omarska mine, large quantities of fine sized (<15µm) waste sludge, with relatively high Fe concentrations, were generated. Our previous results showed that sludge samples are composed of major goethite and quartz, less clay minerals, and minor magnetite and todorokite. Selective flocculation is one of the methods that can be applied for the separation of fine class iron minerals from impurities, and depends on the individual components of the sludge and their behaviour. In order to precisely determine the present mineral phases and their chemical compositions, it was performed XRPD, FTIR and SEM-EDS analysis. The “clay samples” are composed of major quartz and clay minerals which dominate over minor contents of feldspars, amphiboles, goethite and hematite. The clay minerals were identified as mostly illite-sericite which prevails over kaolinite, and with chlorites which appears only sporadically. The dispersion-flocculation behaviour was investigated by settling and flocculation experiments and Zeta potential measurements. A three different dispersants (sodium-hexametaphosphate, sodium-pyrophosphate and sodium-silicate), and anionic and non-ionic polyacrylamide (PAM) flocculants were used. The best results were achieved with sodium-hexametaphosphate (1000g/t) and anionic PAM.

AB  - Studied sludge samples are composed of major goethite and quartz; less clay minerals;
and minor magnetite, hematite, clinochlore and todorokite. They have quite similar qualitative,
but different semi-quantitative compositions. There are similar particle size distributions between
the samples, and the highest contents of ~50% belongs to the finest classes of <6 m. Among size classes within the samples, almost identical iron contents are present; indicating their similar mineral compositions, which make these systems very complex for further separation processes. Sludge II has a higher natural settling rate, due to its higher density and mineral composition. With addition of the flocculant, settling rates increase significantly with the increase of the liquid component in both of the samples.

AB - The Briggs-Rauscher (BR) oscillatory reaction is the oxidation of malonic acid in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and iodate in the acidic environment, which is catalyzed by ions of manganese. This reaction is very sensitive to the presence of additives. In this paper, the BR reaction has been used to investigate the phosphate tungsten bronze as well as calcium doped tungsten bronze, obtained by thermal treatment. The addition (0.01-0.08 g) of phosphate tungsten bronze and calcium doped phosphate tungsten bronze has a different effect on the dynamics of the Briggs-Rauscher reaction. In the case of the addition of phosphate tungsten bronze in the Briggs-Rauscher reaction, the linear dependence of the length of the oscillatory period on the mass of the added bronze was obtained, while in the case of addition of calcium doped phosphate tungsten bronze, the oscillatory period does not significantly change with an increase of added mass. The mechanism of calcium doped and undoped phosphate tungsten bronze action in BR reaction is probably adsorptive, and it will be the subject of future work.

AB - This paper presents the results of the study of the particle size distribution of the limonite sludge that occurs as a hydro-cyclone overflow in the Omarska iron mine. The primary role of the precise
characterization of grains of mineral raw material is in obtaining quantitative data about their particle size and analysis of the distribution of mineral grains by volume, which is a necessary step in controlling the processes of the iron ore beneficiation. Since the overflow of the hydro-cyclone size class is -25 μm, in this paper the following methods of sub-sieve analysis are used: sedimentation method-Beaker decantation; pipetting method by Andreasen-Borner; and Warman cyclosizer. Different methods were used in order to analyze the compliance of the results, as well as comparison of them, because expensive and rapid instrumental methods are often unavailable in practice. Also, the content of iron in the sludge varies, so the correlation of iron content with granulometric particle distribution was analyzed. These analyzes were carried out on two samples of sludge with different average iron content (29.43% and 41.19%). On both samples the iron content was determined per size class. The results showed a largest iron content in the smallest classes (-9+6 microns). These results indicate the necessity of applying some of the methods for selectively separating fine particles (such as selective flocculation, for example) in a further process of preparation.

abstract = "This paper presents the results of the study of the particle size distribution of the limonite sludge that occurs as a hydro-cyclone overflow in the Omarska iron mine.
These results indicate the necessity of applying some of the methods for selectively separating fine particles (such as selective flocculation, for example) in a further process of preparation.",

AB - In present paper there were studied characteristics of the primary natural raw material samples from Omarska mine (Bosnia and Herzegovina). These materials are labeled as: “limonite ore”, “quartz” and “clay”, and they are main components which occur in the processing of iron ore in Omarska mine. In order to precisely determine the present mineral phases and their chemical compositions, it was performed XRPD, FTIR and SEM-EDS analysis. The XRPD results showed that the “limonite ore” samples are composed of major goethite which dominate over hematite, and with minor contents of magnetite, quartz and clay minerals. The “quartz” samples are composed of major quartz which dominate over minor contents of clay minerals, feldspars and hematite. The “clay samples” are composed of major quartz and clay minerals which dominate over minor contents of feldspars, amphiboles, goethite and hematite. The clay minerals were identified as mostly illite-sericite which prevails over kaolinite, and with chlorites which appears only sporadically. The FTIR and SEM-EDS analysis are in very good agreement and mainly confirms the results obtained by XRPD method.
