O nauci u uredničkom konceptu Milana Kašanina: studija časopisa Umetnički pregled

Abstract

Autorski urednički koncept dr Milana Kašanina, realizovan u časopisu Umetnički pregled (1937‒1941), moguće je istraživati sa više aspekata među kojima je dominantan tematski, istorijsko-umetnički plan. U ovom radu, istraživanje je usmereno na jedno od metodoloških pitanja u realizaciji koncepta koji se odnosi na uredničko određenje dr Milana Kašanina prema mestu nauke u integralnom kontekstu tumačenja fenomena kojima je časopis bio posvećen. Iako ovo pitanje nije bilo eksplicitno problemski postavljeno i tematizovano u Umetničkom pregledu, ono je prisutno u realizaciji uredničkog koncepta: u odabiru saradnika i otvaranju prostora za naučne prilaze u njihovim eksplikacijama, kao i u minucioznom uredničkom kreiranju anotacija o naučnim temama i događajima. Teza ovog istraživanja je ta da je dr Milan Kašanin, osim preciznog rada na tematskom, istorijsko-umetničkom planu, svojim istančanim određenjem prema mestu nauke u konceptu Umetničkog pregleda omogućio šire, prosvetiteljsko utemeljenje časopisa. Zahvaljujući tome, Umetnički pregled je danas jedan od prvorazrednih izvora za proučavanje i razumevanje stvaralaštva, naše tradicije, kao i intelektualne atmosfere i vrednosnih sistema društva u periodu svog nastanka i trajanja. Metodološki, ovo istraživanje sprovedeno je kroz analizu priloga u Umetničkom pregledu koji sadrže naučne eksplikacije, kao i kroz analizu priloga u kojima su prisutna razmišljanja o nauci ili naučnim metodama. Značajni su i prilozi u kojima je reč o konkretnim aktivnostima instituta, naučnih istraživača, univerzitetskih profesora ili inostranih konzervatorskih laboratorija, a važan segment istraživanja odnosi se na urednički odabir u predstavljanju naučnih časopisa.

Art historian dr Milan Kašanin was the first director of the Museum of Prince Paul (now the National Museum of Serbia). Kašanin applied his unique editorial concept as the editor of the Museum’s periodical Umetnički pregled (The Art Review, 1937‒1941). His concept of the publication can be observed from various perspectives of which the dominant one is thematic, art history approach. This paper offers a different perspective. Here Kašanin’s editorial credo is observed from the perspective of methodology. Examined here are the roles that natural sciences and scholarship played in the publication as elements integral to the context of interpreting the visual arts phenomena. This topic was not explicitly named in the texts published in Umetnički pregled. However, it can be seen in the editorial concept including the editor’s selection of contributors distinguished in various professions and in his allowing for their respective scientific and scholarly approaches. It can also be seen in detailed editorial notations on scholarly topics and events the publication covered. This paper argues that Kašanin, himself a distinguished art history scholar, encouraged scientific and scholarly approach thus enabling a broader and enlightening foundation for this journal. It is precisely because of this trait that Umetnički pregled remains one of the supreme sources for studying and understanding art practice, art traditions as well as the intellectual environment and value systems of the period. The methodology of this research includes an analysis of the scholarly articles published in Umetnički pregled and those that contain some aspects of sciences and science methods. Included are also articles reporting on specific activities of scholarly institutes, researchers, scholars and conservation laboratories. Also examined is the editor’s selection of scholarly journals reviewed in Umetnički pregled.
