Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) are a promising technology that has the potential to solve environmental problems while simultaneously generating electricity. Thanks to the direct use of energy from the substrate and its conversion into electricity, as well as the controlled production of activated sludge, the multiplicity of independent applications highly qualifies MFC for the use of wastewater treatment. Wastewater from various industries is an ideal source of organic substrate that can potentially be used in MFC systems. In this way besides degrading organic pollutants, generated energy can be obtained as added value and used for various purposes.sr
