AB - Growing mushrooms means meeting challenges while aiming for sustainability and circularity. Wherever the producer is located, commercial strains are the same originating from several producers. Customized strains adapted to local conditions are urgently needed. Before introducing new species to the strain development pipeline, the chemical characterization and biological activity of wild ones need to be assessed. Accordingly, the mycoceutical potential of five polypore mushroom species from Serbia was evaluated including: secondary metabolite composition, oxidative damage prevention, anti-tyrosinase, and anti-angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). The phenolic pattern was comparable in all samples, but the amounts of specific chemicals varied. Hydroxybenzoic acids were the primary components. All samples had varying quantities of ascorbic acid, carotene, and lycopene, and showed a pronounced inhibition of lipid peroxidation (LPx) and ability to scavenge HO•. Extracts were more potent tyrosinase inhibitors but unsuccessful when faced with ACE. Fomitopsis pinicola had the strongest anti-tumor efficacy while Ganoderma lucidum demonstrated strong selectivity in anti-tumor effect in comparison to normal cells. The evaluated species provided a solid foundation for commercial development while keeping local ecology in mind.

AB - U ovom radu je ispitivano kombinovanje adsorpcije i bioremedijacije u postupku prečišćavanja voda kontaminiranih dizelom.

AB - A big percentage of soil and water pollution comes from accidental spillage during exploitation, transport, processing, storage, and extensive use of petroleum. One of the technologies that are increasingly used in the world for the remediation of polluted environments, primarily soil, isbioremediation (use of non-pathogenic microorganisms that use organic pollutants as a source of nutrients). The main objective of this investigation was to answer whether it is possible in the applied conditions of bioremediation to successfully purify the soil contaminated with hydrocarbons from fuel oil? In this study, ex-situ bioremediation was performed on the soil from different areas in Serbia contaminated with waste oils from petroleum products. The ex-situ bioremediation process was performed at the BREM plant in Dobanovci (N 44°48′52.42″ E 20°13′13.08″). Bio-pile for bioremediation was made on a waterproof asphalt surface. Sampling was performed from the bio-piles before/and after bioremediation and from control bio-piles(without added microorganisms) and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) were gravimetrically determined according to Beškoski et al. (2011). For the determination of petroleum hydrocarbons, gas chromatography (GC) was used. The content of TPH, obtained by the gravimetric method, forthe sample before bioremediation and the control sample was around 22%, while TPH content for the soil sample after bioremediation was 1.62%. The TPH content decreased by 92.9 % in the bioremediation process, while in the control sample it decreased by only 3.02%. GC-analysis showsa significant decrease, the content of hydrocarbons with 17C and 18C atoms (pristane and phytane). The applied bioremediation procedure has significantly reduced the TPH content, which indicates that the soil contaminated with fuel oil was successfully cleaned.

AB - World hunger remains a pressing global issue that demands innovative solutions to ensure food security and alleviate widespread malnutrition. In this context, the role of chemistry in addressing the complex challenges of food production, preservation, and distribution is crucial. Chemistry has the potential to play a significant role in addressing the global issue of world hunger. Through the development of innovative agricultural practices, food preservation technologies, and novel food sources, chemistry can help increase the global food supply and ensure that all people have access to nutritious and affordable food. This paper explores the various ways in which chemistry is being used to tackle world hunger, from the production of drought-resistant crops to the development of sustainable farming methods. The paper also discusses the challenges that must be overcome to fully leverage the potential of chemistry in addressing world hunger, including the need for investment in research and development, as well as greater collaboration between scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Ultimately, this paper argues that chemistry can be a powerful tool in the fight against world hunger and that continued investment in this field has the potential to make a significant impact on global food security. Chemistry plays a fundamental role in improving agricultural practices and increasing crop yields. Through the development of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, chemists can optimize plant growth, enhance soil fertility, and combat pests and diseases that threaten agricultural productivity. Moreover, advancements in genetic engineering and biotechnology allow scientists to create genetically modified organisms (GMOs) as potential food. In conclusion, chemistry holds immense potential in addressing the challenges of world hunger. By leveraging its principles and technologies, including agricultural innovations, food preservation techniques, fortification strategies, and sustainable practices, chemistry can contribute to increasing food production, improving nutrition, and ensuring food security for vulnerable populations. However, it is crucial to prioritize ethical considerations, sustainability, and equitable access to these advancements to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to solving world hunger.

abstract = "A big percentage of soil and water pollution comes from accidental spillage during exploitation, transport, processing, storage, and extensive use of petroleum. One of the technologies that are increasingly used in the world for the remediation of polluted environments, primarily soil, is
bioremediation (use of non-pathogenic microorganisms that use organic pollutants as a source of nutrients). Sampling was performed from the bio-piles before/and after bioremediation and from control bio-piles
(without added microorganisms) and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) were gravimetrically determined according to Beškoski et al. (2011). For the determination of petroleum hydrocarbons, gas chromatography (GC) was used. The content of TPH, obtained by the gravimetric method, for
the sample before bioremediation and the control sample was around 22%, while TPH content for the soil sample after bioremediation was 1.62%. The TPH content decreased by 92.9 % in the bioremediation process, while in the control sample it decreased by only 3.02%. GC-analysis shows
a significant decrease, the content of hydrocarbons with 17C and 18C atoms (pristane and phytane). The applied bioremediation procedure has significantly reduced the TPH content, which indicates that the soil contaminated with fuel oil was successfully cleaned.",

AB - Growing mushrooms is meeting challenges while aiming for sustainability and circularity. Wherever the producer is located, commercial strains are the same originating from several producers. Following the harvest, enormous quantities of spent mushroom substrate containing spores are disposed presenting a type of foreign material pressure on the ecosystem in the form of the loss of genetic diversity in wild mushroom populations. This challenge can be mitigated by bioprospecting local strains and using them to generate commercial inoculum. Accordingly, the mycoceutical potential of five polypore mushroom species from Serbia was evaluated: secondary metabolite composition, oxidative damage prevention, anti-tyrosinase, and antiangiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) properties. Fomitopsis pinicola had the strongest anti-tumor efficacy while Ganoderma lucidum demonstrated strong selectivity in anti-tumor effect in comparison to healthy cells. The evaluated species provided a solid foundation for commercial development while keeping the local ecology in mind.

AB - This study aimed to effectively decontaminate fuel oil-contaminated soil using ex-situ bioremediation. Soil samples (contaminated with waste oils) from Serbia were treated. The results showed several significant changes after bioremediation. The pH levels became slightly more alkaline (7.0–7.5). Reduction in organic substance (34%) and carbonate (36%) were observed, respectively. The concentration of n-hexane extractable substances and total petroleum hydrocarbons decreased by around 90%, including a significant reduction in hydrocarbons containing 17 C and 18 C atoms. Total carbon, organic carbon, and total hydrogen content also decreased notably. The presence of a high number of microorganisms indicated active aerobic and anaerobic processes in the soil. Overall, the results confirmed a high degree of feasibility of the applied conditions for bioremediation of soil contaminated with waste oils.

AB - Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) often results in irreversible cell damage and leads to a number of disorders such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, inflammation, premature aging and cancer. Considering the importance of diet in prevention of diseases associated with oxidative stress, this study was conducted to evaluate antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of wild lignicolus mushroom Fomitopsis pinicola as natural source of functional food ingredients. Nowadays functional food products based on the lignicolous mushroom species are increasingly available on the market. Their powders and extracts are consumed as dietary supplements in the form of capsules or tablets and as additives in the formulation of healthier food products.

AB - The storage of human milk, the gold standard in infant nutrition, in a milk bank requires its
freezing and then a pasteurization process immediately before its use in the diet of preterm
infants. Thermal processes affect the composition and quality of milk. The objective of this
research was to examine the influence of thermal processes on nutritive properties and
quality of preterm milk. The effects of thermal processes were estimated on mature preterm
milk of 30 breastfeeding women. Total proteins, lipids, lactose and minerals were determined
before and after thermal processing and supplementation of mature preterm milk with
fortifier. The protein concentration decreased after frozen storage and pasteurization.
Pasteurization further reduced the lipid concentration after freezing, while there was no
effect on lactose concentration. The mineral contents of mature milk were lower than
necessary for the optimal growth of preterm infants, and thermal processes did not change
its concentration. The supplementation of mature milk with a fortifier increased the
concentration of macronutrients and micronutrients. Our study examined the influence of
thermal processes on the nutritive properties of infant meals for preterm babies. Storage and
pasteurization processes affect the basic nutritional composition and quality of preterm
human milk. In order to ensure adequate nutrition for preterm infants with preterm human
milk, supplementation, especially with high concentrations of proteins and lipids, is necessary
after thermal treatments.

abstract = "E-waste is one of the fastest growing waste. Ewaste contains lots of valuable resources together
with plenty of heavy metals and hazardous materials, which are considered both an attractive
polymetallic secondary source and an environmental contaminant. Therefore, recycle of
valuable metallic from them are necessary and compulsory in many developed/developing
countries.
The aim of our study was to investigate the potential of using the Acidithiobacillus sp. B2, to
recovery Co and Ni from printed PC motherboard.",
